    what did he say?

    ---

I told my friend yesterday that if we played with a full effort and left it all out there, I'd hold my head up high and be happy for our team no matter what the result. Well I'm furious right now.

Haha. Speaking of world powers, wait until you lose to Ghana. Don't pull the naturalized card. Zinha is more Mexican than he is Brazilian, and Guille owes his life to Mexican footbal. Maybe the U.S. isn't as good as you guys thought. Good try though. G'luck against the Italians.

  4. Then you need to tell Bravo that... and tell him to stop bitching..
If you make it to the second round then that's as far as you go....
i was kinda rooting for you in your group but since you remind me of how good you think Mexican soccer is then i think i will root against you and your non-mexicans:D

No defensive midfield, bad communication in Central Defense and no forward is bigger than a Hobbit.

What other countries give players lifetime locks on the national team spot? It seems like the best countries demand performance or they dont select a player. Brazil left Romario home when he had a hamstring injury in 1998. Other countries regularly cut big name players when they dont fit into the scheme of the coach. Our team is full of players that have been on the national team (or a favorite of the coach) since they were teanagers and that gives them little reason to improve since they know they can never be replaced. The federation and coaches playing favorites only hurts the progress of the sport in the US. (We all know who these players are, they are the ones who really arent quite good enough to cut it on a world level but have national team and pro careers spanning years and decades due to favortism and sponsorships. Or even the ones who are on the national team because their dad's best friend is the coach for example. Getting this national team exposure furthers and gives life to their pro club careers, but are there no better players to give these caps and wc experience to who might end up being a real world class player at a world cup?)

fellow stars n stripes fans.....its over. The team played scared and poor. Yes they faced superior team. After arena's comments and the teams no show...you can pretty much argue that the heart of team is missing.

Scared, confused, and heartless. We need some NFL and NBA players to cross over and start playing soccer...bottom line.:(

    2-1 italy
    1-1 ghana
    total point WC 2006 = 1
only good thing...arena and his favorites will be gone for the next wc.

If only we could have gotten a seed after finishing second in Concacaf to us.

its not just arena's favorites, every coach does that, we have federation poster boys who the federation have put so much money into marketing that no matter how BAD they really are they will just keep giving them national team games and therefore pro careers until they are somewhat good, take cobi jones, look how much he improved after 100+ national team games, could he ever star in a top world pro league? (btw cobi would have helped us today)

This team just gave up !!!!

Its all but over that I am more than sure of... Is it the end of US Soccer no not at all but this world cup will be as bad as france 98 this team and this game was the most one sided game in all of the games that have been played..

USA must also lose this british air ball and put the ball on the ground and play the way US soccer played in copa america 95... This team need a coach that is going to want to play the ball to the feet and on the ground...

USA is more than eliminated and should go out and play italy man for man no respect and just take it to them and thats that.. go in with the mentality we lost the first game so waht lets just take it to the italians and ghana and if we are going to lose lets lose making our rivals suffer

not lose the way they did today showing mo passion no desire to continue after the 2nd goal and going down on a whimper!!!

Fight it out go down fighting I rather see the US go down fighting and playing with notthing to lose..

The sad part about all this is that once the us is gone from the WC soccer in the main stram media will be worst than it is now.....

We should find out all we need to know about this team and their heart and intensity in their next match. How they come out to play v Italy will say all we need to know about them. Hopefully they will look at this game, realize that they played poorly and use it to motivate themselves to play better.

That's the only word I can come up with to describe the UMNT's performance against the Czechs today. They were as flat as the pre-Columbian world (if not more). Where was Landon Donovan? Can someone tell me if he even suited up today? Outside of a service late in the second half, I didn't see anything out of him. I'll be honest. I didn't expect a win, but I thought we'd do a hell of a lot better than a 3-0 loss.

And for the love of God, Alexi Lalas, DO NOT compare Japan to the Czechs (for your reference, the red-headed wonder said we should look at Australia's resilience against Japan, how they fell behind 1-0 and came back to win 3-0). Yes, Alexi, because falling behind 1-0 to Japan is equivalent with fallilng behind 1-0 to the Czech Republic. Great analysis!

I don't think we gave up.
But I agree with your points.
It's time to nut-up, "take off the training wheels", and "smoke 'em if you've got 'em".
Nobody thinks we have any shot anymore, and even our own fans are running for the exits.
Eff everybody, let's go out shooting.

Clearly. "4-5-1" was not a nod to defensiveness, we did not come out playing not to lose. This was drawn up as an attempt at all 3 points, but with Convey on instead of Johnson. Admirable, gutsy, perhaps foolhardy, and not the right plan. And 5 minutes in, backfired horribly.

sandpower....pessimistic or realistic.......You can show up with a big set of b....s or not show up. Ecaudor did it, trinadad did it, heck even angola did it. We showed nothing today. If you play...you know that in a short tourney...the first game sets the tone...now we got nothing left. As for will keep my hopes up high for l mex and england .........

Unfortunately I think we did give up at one point. I remember late in the game where a Czech player was at the corner of our penalty area when the ball came to him. Our guys hardly made a sprint to close him down. That was when I realized the guys were just dejected. I've never seen that from our boys before. I can only hope we come back fighting. I'll be right there next Sat yelling and screaming like always.

Let them play a far superior Czech Republic:rolleyes:
We played like shit, they played well, we could still go to the next round..
Mexico will lose to Portugal and beat Angola..
England will tie T and T:p and beat Sweden..
(I don't know why exactly I decide to put that there, but I did.)
P.S. It's not sandpower and you're not the first to think that:eek:

bruce arena should have brought SHAQ and KOBI from the NBA into training camp so that our defenders could practice on 7" tall players (KOBI has played soccer as a kid). both cheq forwards were over 6'5". mcbride's skill in the air was nothing to the cheq defenders who practices every day against two 6'8" forwards in training camp. (and most other EURO teams who have lots of 6'4" manly men on their teams.)

This defeat calls into question the integrity of our qualifying results and victory over Portugal and Mexico. This team does not belong in the World Cup. I said it. They didnt belong there four years ago and eight years ago. The developmental programs have failed. There is no way we legitimately defeated Mexcio(ever) or Portugal. This team smells rotten like the Lake Placid "Miracle". Every player should have left that field with a yellow card and some should have left with a red if they had any heart.

    didnt steve ralston qualify us?

and we had a ton more offensive and midfield power in the last WC - a healthy obrien, cobi jones, mathis - without those 3 we wouldnt have gone forward in WC 2002... and we dont have them now or anyone who can step up and score goals and beat the defense to the goal line in the world cup, it appears.

I hate to say it but they did look like they gave up at certain parts. I think Bruce needs to scream at them for a day then spend the next three building them up. If I were Bruce I would show a Highlight compilation of the greatest us games Friday night. They know they screwed up.

Dude what the hell are you talking about? Do you know anything about this game at all? The US got beat today. We got our asses handed to us by a very good team. It happens. Get over it. What happened today has nothing to do with our qualifying, or our performance in 02.

Go hide under a rock or something, as for me I will wait until I see how the US performs against Italy. That will tell me all I need to know about this team.
