I know it is not directly US related now, but the US will play Italy on ABC HD so I thought it might be relevant. Result so stop reading if you don't want to know On the first goal, DOB and Celo are rambling about something while the ball goes in the net, and then 30 seconds later they say "what a shot". It sounded like an audio delay, but it could have been their idiotness? Did anyone else notice this? Have any of the HD brodcasts had an audio delay?
Well at least your getting the game. Its not being shown where i live, we have the emperors new school in stead, and lelo and stitch. ffs.
Here in the New York area the ABC feed is really fuzzy. The Univision feed is much clearer and crisper. Univision looks like HD in comparison to ABC. Anyone else have this problem.
I think it's the audio, not just the commentators. When Beckham's kick went in, there wasn't even crowd noise until DOB shouted what a shot, so I think it's the audio, but now I just have the TV muted, which means I don't have to listen to those idiots.
I had the same problem in Nashville today. The audio is about 7-10 seconds behind. In Nashville it has done this all day. Even when the second game came on it was still delayed audio. They better fix that in time for the game vs. Italy.
Audio/Video sync is a huge problem with HDTV production. I used to see this all the time a few years ago but most sports productions have solved this problem with newer technology. I was not watching the England match in HD (at a pub instead) but I had a feeling that there was a synchronization problem with the Argentina game this afternoon.
I get Adelphia and there seemed to be a 1 sec audio delay. Also, as far as picture goes, it's up to the cable carrier to compress the picture. My Adelphia HD channel is quite good.
The problem as I see/heard it is ESPN/ABC paid for a broadcast feed from FIFA. They have no video-production-say in the matter whatsoever. So you are dealing with a telecast sent all over the globe by people who are probably not doing this 24-7 like ESPN; and they and ESPN are all still working out the kinks. ESPN has stated that for the next cup they will be doing their own video work. I really don't think it is an HD thing especially since we are hearing non HD people are experiencing this. While I am confident of what I have just stated, I am sure someone else knows more about it.
The video source is the only good thing. The video production done by ESPN sucks and I hope to God you are wrong about ESPN doing the video work.
It wouldn't be FIFA it would be the German broadcaster. For these inetrnational competions the video work si always doen by the host broadcaster, I'm not sure if ESPn coudl do it any other way.
"Skipper said that ESPN's full influence on World Cup telecasts would not be felt until 2010, when it will produce the games, rather than receive the international feed that it augments with its announcers and graphics. He has a checklist of production ideas to improve what he acknowledges to be a difficult sport to televise. But, he added, "It's mostly vision and rhetoric right now, without substance and specificity."" per http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/09/sports/soccer/09tv.html?_r=1&oref=slogin ; free registration
