Gerrard 50-50 for Paraguay?

Discussion in 'England' started by WizardOfTheDribble, Jun 8, 2006.

  1. ..according to the man himself.

What do you think Sven will do if he doesn't make it?.

Push Beckham into the middle, and bring in Aaron Lennon.

Or bring in Carrick, Hargreaves or Carragher to give Frank Lampard a bit more of a licence to push on?.

You've got to be kidding me? What happened to him? This changes everything if it's true.

Can you tell me what the issue is with him? How can you be sure he'll play?

If he doesn't make it, I'd like to see Carrick playing with everyone else staying at their positions.

If he doesn't make it then I take back my 3-0 victory prediction and go with a draw.

It would change thing up if he wasn't to play, wouldn't it?

A bit scary but it's all part of the pre WC hype.

Am I the only person not worried about this? Drop in a holding player that lets Frank roam and I think we're fine. Gerrard returns at the top of his game for T&T.

I'm not worried at all either, as good as Gerrard is, he's never been vital to England. I'd love to see him doing what he doesfor Lverpool for England, but we wo't need him on the pitch to beat Paraguay.

If he aint fit (lets all hope he is) then the wise move would to play Carrick.

thats where you are wrong . Paraguay are a very good team i mean in france 98 they nearly beat france and they recently drew with argentina and if gerrard isnt fit eriksson will put beckham in the middle which i think is a terrible mistake . I have seen beckham play in the middle for real madrid for a whole season and he was hopeless but this season he has played on the right and has played great .

Paraguay is an awesome team. Very overlooked and potentially dangerous. Gerrard and Beckham are the key this year. I have faith they both will play. But we need Gerrard fit to lead us to the final. We cannot risk him. We need to keep Beckham on the right. His kicks are indefensible when he is on. Put Carrick or Carra in the mid, if need be.

Paraguay are a good team I'm not underestimating them, but the team on the field sans Gerrard (and sans Rooney too) is still good enough taht it should beat Paraguay.

There is no way that Beckham will play in the cnetre instead of Gerrard, Lampard is our main attacking central midfielder. Carrick, Hargreaves or Jenas will play in the centre if Gerrard doesn't.

christ people – it's paraguay, they might not be trinidad & tobago, but we beat a world cup favorite argentina in '02 without gerrard, a half fit beckham and flipping nicky butt and danny mills in our starting 11. even if gerrard and rooney were unfit the team is miles ahead of '02 while paraguay isn't argentina.

sure the game is 90 minutes, the ball is round and this is the world cup so anything can happen, but a little confidence please.

This is one of the countries top sports authorities take on the World Cup and Gerrard. ( among others, they do have their opinions)
    http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/14767262.htm

    On Stevie G:
Forget Henry and Zidane, Beckham and Rooney, it comes down to Steven Gerrard. In the last year he has singlehandedly turned Liverpool losses in the 2005 Champions League final and in last month's FA Cup final into victories. Five years ago, when he was 21, he turned an England-Germany game in Munich into a 5-1 English rout. Gerrard does not let his team lose the big game. Expect him to carry England to its first World Cup title since 1966.

Expect France's Thierry Henry to be the tournament's leading scorer, expect England's Steven Gerrard to be the outstanding player in the tournament, expect Argentina's Carlos Tevez, Spain's Cesc Fabregas, Northeast Philly's Bobby Convey and, yes, Wayne Rooney, to emerge as real stars, and expect Didier Drogba, of Ivory Coast and Chelsea, to come up with the outstanding goal of the tournament.

Au Contraire; I think Stevie is definitely pivotal here; hey Bruce Arena, declared at a news conference, he doesn't know what is true regarding the injuries of the Czech team that the USA confronts Monday I think.

Gerrard is more vital for England without Rooney, he can rock the world cup with a little bit of help from his friends like in Istanbul or the FA Cup.

You know, FIFA went to great lengths to try to get refereeing straightened out in this World Cup.

Seeing how about every team has "key" injuries, this may well be put on the calendar to remedy for next time, doctors reports and all.

Need him, as insurance I'd think. I'd think, with Gerrard on the pitch vs. Paraguay, we will have victory, without him, I'd worry. Sans Rooney, Sans Gerrard, now that is a lot of firepower.

Sky Sports is saying yes. The quote Sven "He should be on the pitch tomorrow..."
