Marcus is w/o three central defenders in this one. I can't listen to this one--if someone else wants to, IM/PM me and I'll give you my info.
Evidently the 2nd goal was a free kick from 30 yards out, and Hahnemann didn't move. Announcers couldn't figure it out. Maybe he thought the shot was going to the other side, and got surprised, but his feet were planted.
After seeing the highlights on SKY It looked like Marcus was a bit rash coming off his line so quick on the first goal. The header appeared to come from around the penalty spot. Same comment as A40 on the Holland free kick it just looked like Marcus never saw it. The red card by Viveash was pure stupidity-the guy just lost his cool. On the 3rd goal Marcus had no chance. Although Reading is now 4th they have no games in hand, a low goal differential, and a lot of teams nipping at the playoff heels. Playoffs are not a certain thing. Best of luck to Reading though..god it would be great for such a small club to make it to the Prem. Seems like they even make West Brom look like a big club.
I'm betting the highlights on either skysports news or the Fox Sports World Report. Thank you FSW, and the less said about this match (from Marcus' and Reading's perspective) the better.
Well, I'll say a few more things. Or, more to the point, I'll post some thoughts from Reading fans who were at the game after I asked about Hahnemanns performance:
Marcus was appalling last night. He held his hand up to accept blame for the first goal, where he came flying out to flap at fresh air in a worryingly good impression of David James. For the second goal he inexplicably just stood and watched a soft free kick drift into his net from (at least) 35 yards. He stood and watched the third go in as well, but I can't be sure how far out the shot was from. However, he still got loads of support from the Reading faithful, and still threw his water bottle into the crowd at the end. It should also be mentioned that Viveash, in addition to being 4th choice centre back, spent a lot of the fist half going off and on and off and on getting treatment for a head wound he received very early on, and thus the defence was constantly shifting around.
That's why he'll never make it in the national team, too inconsistant, some very good games, but then a very bad one.
Today's results notwithstanding it sounds like he's been pretty damn consistent for the last several months.
For those who didn't see the highlights or the match, this should help you visualize everything about that goal. Good analogy.
Really??? I suppose if 16 odd clean sheets and then one poor game is inconsistent then the likes of Barthez must be piss poor.
Royal, keep in mind most on these boards will mostly base their thinking about MH with his time in MLS--where he had his ups and downs before leaving for Fulham. So it's not an offense to his current play and the team he plays for.
IIRC, he was something like 12-4 through his last (half) season with Colorado, and they were 4-12 down the stretch without him (and with Ian Feuer), so he was on a pretty good run there. And he was a tad shaky in his last few matches with Fulham, if memory serves, which is why he's not with them now. Neither of which has much to do with his current performance. He had a bad game. It happens. But while he's prone to the occasional howler, I would say he's been reasonably consistant through most of his career. He just has the misfortune of having Keller and Friedel ahead of him, which kept him from having an impact on the national team.
RoyalMan, I didn't say he wasn't a good keeper, I believe he is. And he's had a very good season. But read the descriptions of his play this game. An a bad day, Friedel never plays like that. He's had a history of being inconsistant. Maybe I was rash in saying 'never'. Keepers generally get better as they get older, maybe he's getting more consistant. But to have a game as bad as the one Marcus just had, even in the middle of a very good season, is something that Arena pays attention too.
I meant to include this tidbit in my last post, but I kept getting distracted by people who want me to do what I'm getting paid for. But anyway, this is a likely factor, too.
