Hello all! I would like a little advice from those in the know. My husband is currently looking for a new job and we are considering relocating to several different locations. One location we are considering is for a job in Leiden, Netherlands. So first things first. We'll worry about health insurance and housing later. In the meantime, what soccer team would I want to be cheering for?? What first division team is closest to Leiden? We'd probably be living between Leiden and Den Haag... Any suggestions you can give me would help! I mean, if there's not a good soccer team to cheer for, that's kind of a deal-killer. <Just Kidding.... Obviously... For many reasons....>
Good teams in the Leiden area? can't think of any. No proper teams in the west at all, come to think of it.
I'm afraid I don't know the geography very well yet... so ADO Den Haag would be the closest 1st division? Where is Sparta? (How close) How close are other rival teams? How about 2nd division? Doesn't DeMarcus Beasley play somewhere in the Netherlands? Where does he play? Thanks everyone!
Well, I guess I shouldn't hold out for a "good" team because, well, check out my current club's standings... I'm a sucker for punishment.
it usually helps to tell people what something is when they arent in the know, the amsterdam arena in this case...
You'll do fine as long as you support any team that isn't Ajax. Seriously though, ADO Den Haag or Sparta Rotterdam would be the best choices for that area. I'm not sure Feyenoord is going to be worth supporting next year now that all their good players are leaving.
Actually, I've found that most people here support Ajax even though Den Haag is closer. The highest level club in the city or neighboring cities IIRC is Rijnsburgse Boys, who play in the Hoofdklasse (2 steps down from the eredivisie).
Well exactly. Plus you're far less likely to get caught up in a traffic jam driving east than driving to Rotterdam or Amsterdam.
