This is the link to ESPN/ABC WC TV Schedules. Looks like some are delayed showings especially on ABC. Page 2 gets into the meat of it. http://media.espn.com/ESPNToday/2006/Mar_06/cup_sked.htm I had a mild heart attack when I checked my DVR for times for the England Match on ESPN. Then I realised it was on "ABC" Sat 9AM (EST) Going to have to get an early start to the George & Dragon with the rest of the wierdo's......
I wish I knew if ESPN/ABC will be using their full screen 16 by 9 HD setup like they do for MLB or the skinny HD setup they used for the USMT warm-up matches. Watching football with the widescreen feed that you can get on DishTV's Worldsport HD channel makes a huge difference. Regardless, every match with be recorded on my DVR for later viewing... --TK
my cable provider has ABC-HD and ESPN-HD but *not* ESPN2-HD. Does anyone know if the games on ESPN2 will be transmitted in HD even though it is regular ESPN2? My cable provider claims that regular channels sometimes send certain programs transmit in in HD. Is this true for ESPN2 for the WC games? Thanks, Mace
Hey MK..there is no "skinny" HD. If its not filling 16x9 its not HD. Any variation with grey or black bars on the side is SD (Standard Definition). Even Sportscenter HD "fakes" it sometimes by putting fancy ESPN logos as the side borders with SD video in the middle. Don't get me wrong..the SD picture usually looks great if you can tolorate the bars. But true HD means no bars baby..no bars.
The entire World Cup will be shot in Widescreen 16:9 1080i High Definition by the host broadcaster. ESPNHD/ABCHD will take that picture, convert it to 720p and show it in its original widescreen aspect ratio. Even there are glitches in the HD feed they should be able to upconvert widescreen SD. Only the regular, SD versions of ESPN and ABC will cut the sides of the picture to 4:3. I'm in the same boat here with no ESPN2HD. You should know that an HD picture only comes through on HD channels, so there's no hope for regular ESPN2 to show games in HD. Oh, there are other options. ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 in English. Univision and Telefutura in Spanish. ESPN Classic, ESPNU, Galavision will rerun a lot of games.
