well, aparently, Edmilson is out for a long time, 6 months, so he's gonna miss the start of the season I'm afraid :(

Here is the background of his injury.

He initially started to feel pain in his knee after the Milan match and continued playing with it. He did have some training session a week in the gymnasium during the end of the season all though he was fit enough to start matches.

When he showed up at the Brazilian pre world cup camp, he was under the same regimen for the knee, isolated training in the gym. Although the Brazilian team staff wanted to make sure every player was fully fit, so they decided to take a scan on Edmilson and this is when the tear in the meniscus was found.

Since the tear will not heal quickly, less than 10 days, he was released from the Brazilian team. It was then determined by Barca doctors not to operate and allow for full recovery which should be between 6 and 8 WEEKS.

Even if it were 6 months (which is long for a meniscus i believe), Barcelona should be fine with Iniesta and MVB. The beginning of the season isnt so bad to miss.

This sucks for Edmilson but this is another reason why Barca should look around to get some fillers for DM or CB positions during this summer. Either would be fine even if it's a CB that's being bought, since Marquez can move up and play in the midfield. I'm not a fan of playing a 4-3-3 formation with no true defensive-minded midfielder who's willing to do the dirty work in the midfield.

this means we must buy a world class CB!! marquez and play DM till edmilson returns. so we must get a partner for puyol. materrazzi and gallas would be good signings

Materazzi would be suspended every month or so for bookable offences. Gallas is class but AC are in for him good.

He's only out 6-8 weeks, not 6-8 months. Gallas would be fine, but it's not urgent. I would think that wingbacks are higher up no the priority list.

i'd like to see either iniesta or xavi take over edmilson's role for a period, both have shown promise in the times they have filled in there. no reason to make a signing, concentrate on wing backs, supporting strikers and if anything else, how about a goal keeper that can challenge valdes to become more consistent. always have motta, at least when his and edmilson's injuries don't overlap.

I hope Edmilson has a speedy recovery, but it will be great to see Iniesta.
He is always a joy to watch in the midfield; he is so young too.

theres a lot of options for that position, even withedmilson out. xavi, iniesta, motta, and marquez are all capable of playing there. unfortunately, i think motta is possibly bottom of that list for now. we've all been waiting a long time to see the best of him, we all know he's capable. he just needs to stay fit and maintain some consistency, but that's a big IF. this season might be his last chance.

there's enough cover for Edmilson, I don't see this as the end of the world by any means. If a new CB were to come in, Rafa could do it great.

I hope Motta can do it though, and maybe finally show his true potential.
