Manny didn't do it all on his own. I'm glad he finished, but he had some good feeds too. Thank those guys as well.

Well, and even if were called up, Frank's under no obligation to let him go 'cause it's merely a friendly.

I don't like the Ekelund-Donovan tandem in the center midfield: two offensive minded midfielders in the center, as opposed to offensive Ekelund and defensive Mulrooney.

It'd better to pair Ekelund with Corrales, and start Dunivant at left back.
Donovan is mych better up top (pair him with Ching?).
Mullan at right mid, maybe? Lagos starting at left mid.
Or Lagos on the right, and Alvarez on the left, although it's a bit scary to have two rookies controling the whole left side of the pitch.

If Russell is not ready to go full 90, maybe put him on the field for the second half, when his speed will be a much more serious factor?
    Same for Alvarez.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp I agree that it should be a Ekelund-Corrales central midfield tandem for this game, assuming that a suitable defensive back plays where Corrales otherwise would.

    &nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp GO EARTHQUAKES!!! :(

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp I guess we'll have to settle for the latter, as only the west side of Spartan will be open for this game.

    &nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp GO EARTHQUAKES!!! :(

by "suitable defensive back", do you mean dunivant?

it's a pretty big fire to throw the kid out into in his first game. but it might be the only choice.

and i also echo others: a corrales-ekelund midfield tandem is preferable. donovan-mullan up top. lagos on one side, russell or the 18-year old on the other side. that would be another true test to throw an 18 year old into his first game like this. not sure if it's fair.

anothehr possibility is roner at d-mid, corrales on the left, lagos on the right...or corrales at left back, lagos on the left mid, and russell/18-year old (why can't i think of his name?) on the right.

i guess there a number of possible combos. maybe the quakes have more depth than i thought...

I like the roner at D-mid set-up with Corrales at left back......as far as the "depth" comment....it just seems like we have depth when the starters and bench are not much different in talent, the problem is that most of our starters are bench level players too. :(

why must all jump off the ship so quickly? most of us still havent even watched the team play this year. I agree that some of the players are questionable entities but lets at least watch them before we kill them.

I'd never rag any player for their ability(unless they are opposing players) anywhere but here on Big Soccer. I know they all are trying their best.....however, I will rag the coach that plays them or the GM/coach that chose them. I'll be at every game even if the Quakes go 0-30-0. I'm true BLUE baby!

I never thought the Clash/Quakes could actually kill their fans, but apparently they do through asphyxiation.

    Seriously...
If the Earthquakes team read all the stuff you've written in the past month, how much of a fan do you think THEY would consider YOU to be?
Have you ever considered that all of your negative posting might be turning off a lot of people?

If these guys are putting out less than their best effort based on comments on the Internet, then screw them. They are professionals and they should be putting forth their best effort because they have pride in their work. We are fans, we are paying to see them perform, and it is our right to comment on their public performance. If they suck, I reserve the right to call them on it.

I will be at every game this year, cheering for my team whether they are good or they suck -- will you be there?

Players and coaches, come and go. Its the fans who are the constant. We also shell out the cash, so we have paid for the right to complain.

1.) I don't give a flying fish(ty SJQF) what any Quake player or coach thinks of me, nor do I think they give a rats ass what I think about them. However, I do think they would say i'm a great fan. I limit my critique to these boards. I'm not the type to yell at our players ever.....just opposing players, I never leave games early, I cheer louder than most, I bring people to every game and I havent missed but 1 game(i watched it from espnzone in vegas) in 5 years, I buy Quake and MLS merchandise and sponsored products and from my Spartan beer purchases alone they should be negotiating with Henry himself to start up front with Donovan.

2.) I really don't give a flying fish(ty again SJQF) if I turn off any Quake posters.....were you here in 2001 when i was the optimist and others said my expectations were high? I don't bitch to bitch.....I usually have some what of a reason.

PS- is there an unspoken rule that we are supposed to pretend that we think the Quakes will be good even if we think they won't? I just don't wanna re-experience the futility that every good fan has already been through here in San Jose. Winning felt so good in 2001 and 2002.

Attendance less than 10k would be ridiculous. High 8's or 9's wouldn't be bad though.

    I nominate ldb for Fan-of-the-Month

He's setting expectations so low that just getting to the playoffs will be seen as a success.

getting back to the game, i think the key is to get donovan out of the midfield and up front where he can finish. i don't trust mullan and ching just yet to stick a couple in the net, especially when the pressure is on like it will be in this game.

    so:

    onstad

    waibel robinson agoos dunivant

    russell/alvarez corrales lagos

    ekelund

    mullan/ching donovan

    OR, switch:

corrales into dunivant's left back position

and insert roner into the d-mid spot

either way, get donovan up front.

Oh please, this is a midweek match that hasn't been marketed and we're down by two on aggregate.

    4/5k and I'm happy.
