    I don't know, since I've only used it at work for HPI. Even that's pushing it. It's averaging around 500K/s upload, and about 75K/s down. It has stopped on me a few times today, but the d/l speed is pretty steady when it's running, and it hasn't stopped in a little while now.

    Not sure what your explanation means, but I'm not sure it's anything on your end. Once I'm seeding, the torrents don't stop, that I know. My preference is that you didn't change anything until tomorrow, when I'll have to reapply the upload rate limit so as to not hog bandwidth on the network.

    This is what I keep getting:

    "Error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."

    I restart it, then it may run for another 5 minutes before the error returns, or antoher 2 hours.

    Very definitely not on my end. Some other program on your computer is accessing the same file at the same time.

    I downloaded the Ven game vob...THANKS!!
    and then downloaded IfoEdit and looked it over and actually understood what it was going to do BUT IfoEdit could never finish it task...I tried umpteen times.
    ???????????
    Could you please just make a torrent of the remaining stuff that goes into the VIDEO_TS so that I can then just combine the results of the two downloads and burn the VIDEO_TS folder to a DVD for playing on the bigscreen. Many thanks if you could do so.
    (For the Latvia game also?)
    Looking forward to the large files for each half!!
    Thanks

    You're not the only one that's confused about VOB files here, and that's partially my fault, so let me just generally explain about this first, then I'll answer your question directly...

    Saeyddthe's Partial Chimp Guide™ to DVD structure and VOB files: :D

    ~DVDs are generally made up of AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders... Let's ignore the AUDIO_TS folders here, since they're generally unused except in Audio DVDs...
    Inside the VIDEO_TS folder, you have IFO, BUP, and VOB files.

    VOB files are the video streams. They are just (for ease of comprehension) mpeg-2 video files, placed inside a specialized VOB container, which allows for alternate streams within the same file (audio, subs, menus, etc).
    Meaning, for all intents and purposes, that when seperated from the DVD structure, you could rename them to .MPG or .MPEG, and they'd still play just like before...

    IFO files contain the information about the chapters, subs, and audio tracks...that tells your player how to navigate through the VOB files.
    (BUP files are just backups for the IFO files.)

    There are 3 ways to burn a CD/DVD:

    Image file: Contains the complete contents of a disk in a single file...sometimes accompanied by a second smaller file which directs the burning software how to burn the larger image file...
    The most common image file-types are ISO and BIN/(CUE)... Sometimes also NRG, IMG/(CCD/SUB) or MDS/(MDF)... They all have minor differences, but ISO and NRG (Nero) are the most common for DVD images.

    You simply burn the image directly to disk, using either the image itself, or the CUE/CCD/MDF file (if you're not sure which format it's supposed to be burnt in)...and voila...disk replicated.

    VIDEO_TS folder: Contains all the video and directory files which have (usually) been ripped from an original DVD... You simply burn the folder as DVD-Video compliant data to a blank disk (most burning apps have a setting specifically for this...Nero's is "Burn DVD-Video Files", which I've explained before), and (as long as you have all the original files included) the DVD should be replicated.

    DVD Authoring: Using a burning app or authoring tool to create your own DVDs... You choose which video files go in, and then create your own chapters, menus, etc...then click burn, and out pops a working DVD.

    ...
    csctn, the problem lies with me I believe, for leaving the files named "VOB"... When in reality, while outside the DVD structure, they are basically just mpeg-2 video files.
    Adding IFOs to try and re-create a DVD environment is often a complicated and confusing (at least for the novice user) process which, in this case, is totally unnecessary...and I'm not even sure it would work, since the VOBs in question are ripped into one big file, and I'd be doing it for you (the reference points created might not be recognizable on your system...and certainly not on everyone's)...sorry.

    ~~~
    The reason I ripped them each to one VOB file is two-fold.
    First, it's easier for you to watch when you only have to open one file.
    Secondly, and more importantly, it's a helluva lot easier for people to edit before they try to burn it this way, without having to transcode or use VobJoiner or somesuch.
    (btw~ I used DVD Decrypter to rip all but the last two...which I used VLC for)
    Also, I think I've provided some very simple instructions on how to burn these using Nero, in a previous post on this thread.
    If you use a different burning software, and are still confused how to do so, please PM me, and I'll walk you through it. (I have most every major burning/authoring title on my system)
    Well, that's what the error says, but it's wrong. Nothing is accessing the file.
    It's OK, the download finished, and I'm happy. I'll leave these torrents running for at least the next several weeks.
    Up @ HPI
    Definitely better video quality than the previous releases, but how much so, and whether it's worth the extra filesize for the World Cup games is entirely up to you...it's the best I can do.
    In the interest of speeding this up as much as my connection will allow, I will be monitoring this torrent as closely as I'm able to, and blocking upload to only the two or three peers with the highest upload rates.
    That doesn't mean that no one else is welcome on the torrent, or that you won't be able to download it...just that you'll be getting the blocks second-hand from people with larger upload speeds than I have. And you'll actually get the file faster in the end.
    As stated before, I really would appreciate feedback on this one, but only if you've downloaded it, or intend to download any of my WC releases.
    I'm sure there will be plenty of smaller releases for US World Cup matches...
    Guys,
    My computer is disassembled and in my living room as I've been painting my home for the last few days. I just want to say how much I really, REALLY appreciate you all keeping the torrents going for me until I get it back up and running (hopefully tomorrow.)
    Thanks!
    I'm pretty sure the Latvia game is just a test run for the type of file he will making for WC games.
    yeah, this is a test run for the real deal in a couple of weeks. You don't have to download, but for those that do download it, opinions & comments on size vs quality are appreciated.
    ***btw, i have watched each of the three send-off matches twice already...
    8GB...wow. I suggest a possible 2 to 3 seeders for these torrents. I am assuming for the WC games, we should have 15-20 leechers per torrent, if so, another seeder might help out.
    I'm authoring my own DVD's of our Nat's and also plan to burn WC games, each half on one DVD and author to a DVD DL, so I'll stay clear of these torrents. :D
    But if for some reason my DVD Recorder needs to be serviced during June, I'll be leeching these 8gb torrents.
    Also, please supply all the files from the VIDEO_TS folder in the torrents. Save's me extra work.
    Thanks for the work you put into our little community.
    Strike that. I'm pretty sure Google Desktop was the culprit. A quick search on utorrent's FAQ suggested that.
    Kronos, that's exactly what I have done, and intend to do for the WC...
    I already have my own menus mostly built for each game as well...just awaiting the video input. :D
    There are a few reasons I uploaded the files this way:
    I figured that, of the people who would be downloading any DVD sized file, most (or at least a significant portion) would rather do their own menus anyway, and most of the rest could do so just as easily...
    So, I thought I'd give them (you) the raw video, and let you do what you will with it.
    I did this last one as two seperate files, because it's a lot easier to join two files into a single DVD-9 than it is to split a single file in two.
    ~~~
    The reason I didn't include the rest of the TS files, is because I was afraid they wouldn't work (or would only work sporadically) for other people... The original is from a DVD Recorder, and on a DVD+RW disk...they often behave oddly on my own system...
    RM files, lots of sector errors, unclosed VOB endings...even DVD Decrypter was having problems sometimes, which is why I started stream processing them using VLC (ripped in MPEG_TS mode, which isn't a true VIDEO_TS...no IFOs or other structure are included)

    Since I'll be doing my own copies on DVD-DL, and I know that many (if not most) people don't have DL burners, it doesn't make sense to upload that file...even thought DVD Shrink is pretty easy to use.

    I can't go back in time and do it for past releases, but I tell you what I will do for future releases ~
    I will take an extra step before upload, and create a stand-in menu structure for each half, and rip a DVD for each half in File mode for you from now on (VIDEO_TS folder)... That way, everybody can use the file.

    It'll only take a few hours longer, which is OK, since I don't think anyone will be waiting on this copy just to watch the games...
    (God...I hope not! :D ;) )

    Anyway, thanks to those that are downloading this file. It's not HD...but it's the highest quality I can muster right now, and it's entirely up to you whether you want me to continue this through the World Cup.
    If not, I'll still be recording this way for my own personal DVDs, but I'll compress to a smaller single TS folder for upload as a torrent.

    Saeyddthe,

    No need to change your routine...what's easier for you works for us all. I just assumed that you recorded a game, pulled out the VOB files, and uploaded. If that's not the case then it's easier for me to find a program that reads VOB files.

    So far I don't have any, so if you know of any good cheap programs that will do the job, without re-encoding, I'm all ears.

    Well, actually Kronos, there are quite a few free or open-source programs out there. But most are buggy, and usually only do one very specific step at a time, meaning you have to wade through a dozen different progs in a row, just to find out that the next tool you planned on using doesn't support .ac3 or something stupid like that.
    That why the good ones cost money I guess... :D

    The authoring packages that I know will import .vob files are:
    Encore DVD
    Scenarist
    Nero (Vision) - definitely the cheapest of these
    Sonic MyDVD (sorry, not RecordNow :( )

    TMPGEnc and DVDLab will as well, but the last versions I used wanted them demuxed first... I have no idea if later updates have changed this.

    First, if you can't even see the VOB files in your Author's filebrowser...you might want to try selecting "All Files" in the dropdown of the browser window... Then try to import the VOBs.

    Also (and this will work in almost every other case)...you could try just renaming the file extension from .vob to .mpeg or .mpg ... And then import it.
    Most authoring packages that will import .mpegs but not .vobs, are unsophisticated enough to be fooled by this.

    If you want to try another route, I suggest you do a web-search, or try videohelp.com, doom9.org, forums.afterdawn.com, or a related website...

    TMPGEnc is what I use. Very useful, very quick, only re-encodes when necessary. I bought a bundle from them for $80 which included an MPG editor (to cut-edit, etc), convertor (convert from any format to MPG), and DVD author (to create menus and such).

    All of my ISOs with menus and whatnot have been made with this software. It is *super* easy to use. Although I've progressed to the point where I would like more control over items in the menu (DVDLab would be great but I just couldnt get it to work) it is still good enough for my uses.

    TMPG is good software. I've also been using their bundles for a couple years. They don't have a fast converter by any means, but it does the job without complaints. I stopped using "picky" Nero for burning and switched over to TMPG Author. It is super easy to use and has burned hundreds of flawless DVD discs for me. Like elconejito said, the menu options are limited (although they are workable if spend time with them). Besides, who needs full-motion backgrounds anyway? :rolleyes:

    Can't seem to access HPI. Is it just me? Did I get the url wrong?

    Am trying to download the Venezuela game (VOB) but got the "connecting tracker to say start, waiting for response" message. Have been "connecting" for a few hours now. (Is anyone still seeding this game?)

    The best thing, and the worst thing, about TMPGEnc, is the endless number of plug-ins and relatable titles...
    I wanted a little more control, in a fully integrated package, so I got Nero Ultra Edition... Cost me $89 from a friend's store.
    I still use it for almost all of those projects that I don't feel like putting too much time into, but still want to look nice.
    Anything I can't do with Nero, I can do with VobSub, VDub/Mod, or a number of smaller titles first... It does pretty much everything else, even though I still think other programs are better for many tasks, like shrinking, mounting, or ripping.

    ~

    I work for a graphic marketing company...
    About a year ago, I brought a software package home from work... (For, you know, working at home...)
    It was CS2, with a few other add-ins. :D

    For the longest time, I used only Photoshop, or occasionally Illustrator.
    It never even occurred to me to open any of the other programs included...until one day...

    I have (and I'm grinning madly while I type this):

    Encore DVD 1.5
    After Effects 6.5
    Premiere Pro 1.5
    + about a dozen other CS2 related Adobe titles.

    Now, I'm not suggesting anyone should just run out and get this stuff... I got it for free (legitimately), but even the basic package is about $1500. (and no, I won't do a torrent for it. :p )

    I've got Encore DVD about down, I'm just starting to get the hang of After Effects, and I haven't even touched Premiere Pro yet...but I'm already looking at commercial titles, and starting to think, "I could sooo do that!" :D
