I was wandering if the July 4th game is a bigger deal than the other games, like the New Years eve game for the Stars, I'm interested in going but didnt know if it was a bigger game than normal.
im pretty sure they do fireworks.. they did at the cotton bowl.. so usually a pretty good size crowd comes out.. prob close to sellout at PHP to see the fireworks
You're definately going to want to come up. If for no other reason then the fact that it'll probably be the 2 first place teams going at it. Plus the Inferno is planning something pretty cool for the game.
It's the Frisco Freedom Fest. There's stuff going on from 4:00-on. Game is 5:30, Kool and the Gang is at 8:15, fireworks at 9:30. http://www.friscofreedomfest.org/faq.html
I think the lineup sucks. I really really liked having a 7:30 game and then having the fireworks right after the game. Some of the fondest memories are July 4th games at the Cotton Bowl. Now they start the game at 5 (hottest part of the day), then we have to stick around for almost 3 hours enduring some crappy old hack band (ok I'm an old new waver/punk) for the fireworks. The FO basically ruined it IMO (or were forced to do it by the city, whatever). Plus the punters will be dancing badly all over our pristine field after the game. Oh the horrors!
Kool and the Gang on July 4th? Somebody dislikes that idea??? You have to be unAmerican to dislike Kool and the Gang - those guys are awesome. Plus, chicks dig them too.
Does the spontaneous combusion of fans count as a fireworks display? If it is under 100 F I will be shocked.
FYP. I have to work on July 4th, so maybe I figure out a way to fight through all the crap to make this game, but probably not.
I'll go for the game, screw the concert.......I'll be able to see the Fireworks from my front yard. edited to add: even better idea. Go to the game, go to Poppy's and drink beer and eat pizza during Kool and The Spares, then step outside and watch the fireworks. Done dealio!!!
Im down with Kool & The Gang. I may not mill about in 100f heat for them but at least its not some redneck country crap.
oh. OH. Are y'all really gonna sit there and hate on Kool & the Gang? They of "Jungle Boogie"? "Get Down On It"? "Hollywood Swingin'"? "Ladies Night"? "Summer Madness"? Ooh la la la, let's go dancin', ooh la la la, reggae dancin'? (No don't worry, the "punters" won't be dancing, c'mon it's Frisco.) Maybe it's too hot, too hot for you ladies. Gotta run for shelter, gotta ru-uuun for shade. Seriously, that's one of those bands you might think "eh", but then they start rolling out a bunch of hits and you go "oh ok, yeah!" Like last year with America. (Although, looking it up, I see K&tG don't have 'JT' their original singer anymore, so YMMV. But Kool himself is still in there somewhere. They named a menthol cigarette after him.) There's also a Disney hot underage chick band playing as well...maybe you'll like that better. Rawer and edgier than U2 and/or Aerosmith, wooo. Or perhaps you can just bring your Click Five CD and listen to that during the concert instead
heh. Now that I think about it, they're even in one of my ol' DJ intros (lo-fi MP3). Well, them and as much other stuff as I could cram into two minutes. But they get a pretty good representation in there. I bet few can resist when they launch into "Jungle Boogie" tho. It'll be like watching Pulp Fiction all over again
Luckily for us, no opinions on BS are taken seriously I can't say as I've ever purchased any of America's music, but they do put on a good live show, as I'm sure that Kool and the Gang will do. K&tG are recognized as a solid R&B group, being sampled in rap songs almost as much over the years as James Brown. I'm pretty open minded about music, as a veteran gitfiddle picker and rave/club DJ, and I like a lot of different things. "New wave/punker" tells me nothing tho. There are plenty of people who say things like that and are talking about stuff like The Killers and Green Day. Surely we can all agree, however, that the Freedom Fest headliner could have been something much, much worse.
We can certainly agee on that. Country, bad pop or rap is worse. And probably Iggy Pop would not go over real well
