I am faxing Boris as we speak.......we have to update our propaganda methods!! Damn we are getting sloppy.
Mine is De Sousa Oliveira... De Sousa, does not have any specific meaning, while Oliveira means "Olive tree"... I should just get a nickname to make it easier like some guys of the seleccao...
Obviously two different people. I wouldn't be surprised if the MD was given his name sake for a particular reason; perhaps he was Jewish himself or was born to a Jewish family (Conjecture on my part).
U think????? I wonder what tip the scale for you. How he could explain a name like Bettencourt derives from Lusitanian background is beyond me, then again strangers things have happened.
Never thought I'd find anyone else from Arcos De Valdevez on Big Soccer. I was born in Calgary, Canada. But we go back every 2nd year or so. I'll be there this summer after my world cup and western europe travels are done. We have a house about 1 minute by car from the Vila, in the freguesia of Guilhadezes. Are you guys going to head over this summer?
Probably not, I want to go but I have things I need to get organised first. Have a great trip I am jealous.
"Everyone can be traced back to Africa if we go back 10's of thousands of years." Funny that, considering it's well known that the Africans arrived from Asia.
Teixeira - The name originated from the Portuguese town of Teixeira (pronounced Tay-SHAY-rah) and was used as a surname for the first time by Hermigio Mendez de Teixeira, who was lord of Teixeira and the region of Gestasso. This was during the reign of King Sancho I in the 12th Century. That is all I could find with google, no meaning, just the history. Orlando
LOL Great topic, dudes... ...but to be truth, I really dont have any idea what does ALVES means... I only imagine that it derives from ALVARES, like PEDRO ALVARES CABRAL, or NUN'ÁLVARES PEREIRA... Hey, maybe I have some portuguese royal family's bload connections
