I disagree with Jeff on some things he said, though I understand his need to be diplomatic about the US chances, its opponents, etc. I think I like him as a color analyst or a studio host just fine.
To be honest, I don't remember details. I was more talking about him as a commentator. He stumbled a few times, but did a good job overall. The video is on ESPN Motion. Just go to Sport by Sport and pick Soccer.
Judging from that, I'd take Jeff over Eric in the booth any old day. I'm sort of insulted that they said "the retired Metrostar weighs in". His DC days were his glory years. IMO anyway.
how do you guys find out about things like this? if i would've known sooner i would've tuned in to watch agoos. the same thing with all the donovan appearences. i feel like i hear about them after they happen. is just random luck that people run into these things because they were watching tv or listening to the radio at the right time?
That own goal was karma for that lucky donovan-cross-own goal that LD celebrated with a shrug and a "we'll take it" look.......classic......goose couldve had a great '98 cup if not for Sampson picking Regis.
I actually didn't see it live - I was checking what they had new on ESPN Motion. Cold Pizza does have their weekly schedule here - http://www.coldpizza.tv/week.html - and it seems as if Landon and Mia Hamm were on this week. I also check ESPN's home page most days to see if they have any soccer chats coming up. Derek Rae is scheduled for some time on Friday.
Didn't he Fake an injury after he took down the korean player for a penalty? That was the best thing he did all tournament. (when he faked the injury and missed most of the rest of the games)
I remember seeing you in San Jose for Quakes vs. Wizards the night before the final, but Agoos didn't play. SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES--Jon Conway, Jimmy Conrad, Troy Dayak, Eddie Robinson (Landon Donovan 46), Wade Barrett, Ramiro Corrales, Ronnie Ekelund, Ian Russell (Manny Lagos 67), Richard Mulrooney, Ariel Graziani (Luchi Gonzalez 93+), Dwayne DeRosario Agoos' first appearance after the World Cup was July 24, the 7th game after the USA was eliminated, and he didn't start for the Quakes until August 31, and he didn't play more than a half until September 14.
It's amazing how often people forget that he didn't fake the injury. Granted it was a ghastly performance for the most part, but the injury simply wasn't faked. Always felt bad for the guy, he never got to play in his prime and then ended up embarrasing himself in the tournament. That being said the penalty call against SK was utterly bogus and he was relatively solid that game. Also many have made the argument that beyond the own goal (which kind of overwhelms everything), he was solid against Portugal and that in truth his only truly awful performance was against Poland.
I was just playing with my new TV and flipping through the various channels. Having said that, ESPN is putting a lot of money into the Cup (compare this with their non-payment/non-promotion of MLS) and I expect them to spend a lot of time hyping up the event on most of their talk/news shows.
either way, i am glad he missed the rest of the games. He is definetly the most overrated american player ever. OH wait maybe the second cuz Hejduk and his great first touch is the most overrated. Now MLS is a totally different story. He does have (3?) MLS titles, which gives hope to all average soccer players in the USA.
