Sunday May 7, this is the day Tottenham will qualify for the CL. So what will they do after that?

Rummors are they bought Berbatov 2 nd best top scorrer in the Bundesliga. But will he be enough? I think yes, as the team is pretty strong now. I think Berbatov and Keane will be a formidable weapon? I say Tottenham will reach the 1/4 next CL season. What do you think?

If they buy Berbatov where does that leave room for Defoe, he wouldn't be happy as the 3rd man, he'll want to leave, and with the current Mido situation most likely being him going back to Roma, that would leave you with 2 class strikers for the year, unless Defoe wants to be the third wheel

Shouldn't this be on the Tottenham or England forum?

I don't think Defoe will leave. They can play with 3 strikers and also one of them can be brough a little bit in the mid field. Besides Roma sucked this season..
However, if they stick to the 4 4 2, I don't think Berbatov will be on the bench, not for 15 mil... so then Defoe may get some thoughts..

Also, I placed the post here as this is a CL topic even for the next year ;)

They first will have to wait for the result of the CL-final. If Arsenal wins the final, then Totenham will not play in the CL, but "only" in the UEFA-cup.

This is assuming that Arsenal don't win the Champions League, and that Spurs get past the qualifying round, where they could face some decent teams.

What will the Scum do in the CL? Blacken it and drop the prestige level of the European Cup.

Can I get clarification on this?

If Arsenal wins the Champions League then Tottenham will not play in the CL under any circumstances?

    Thanks in advance.

    Exactly.

Any other year I would actually be pulling for Arsenal to win it, but I want to see Robbie Keane (and possibly Stephen Kelly & Andy Reid) get Champion's League football. Robbie has been doing SO well over the last while that he really deserves as much exposure as he can get. Plus I think the current setup of the champions taking the 4th place team's spot is robbery and entirely unfair, but that's a different matter.

Thankyou for the heads up Billy,

That does seem a bit harsh because Tottenham have had a solid year and deserve to make the champions league.

On the flip side I think it's unfair for a winner or even finalist not to make the CL the following year but as you say taking it off the 4th place getter is robbery.

I always thought there was (or at least should have been) a spot in round 1 (of 3) of the qualifiers that was reserved for this situation, and if the Champions didn't need it, it was given to a team from a lesser footballing nation at club level (e.g. Ireland, Switzerland, etc) based on something like a fair play rule. I only found out after the whole Liverpool debacle that this infact was not true (when it happened with Real Madrid a few years back I was considerably less aware of non-Ireland/UK related football).

I don't believe they will be seeded in qualifying. Is that correct?

    Yes it is correct

chances are we still might not make it, 4th place isn't over yet and even if we get it Arsenal could still win the champions league, but i pray and hope.

That's correct. Tottenham will not be seeded for the 3rd QR draw, so they can get a very strong opponent (Internazionale, Real Madrid are possible opponents).

Need to get 4th place, support Barcelona and then get through the qualifying round. That's an awful lot of work still to be done before it's CL time.

However the current squad is good, been 4th in the Premiership most of the season and played well against the other top 6 teams in the league. Not a one man team either a la A*senal or Everton.

They will need to buy a few more players to improve the squad in the summer, but there is plenty of money and it's looking good

I wouldn't of described Everton as a one-man team. They lost their composure after Graverson left, but he was hardly a superstar (Arteta is better). They were overachievers who got found out.

Ain't they going to do an exception as they did for Liverpool, last year??? If Arsenal wins the CL, then Tottenham is out. I think they should allow it..

Last year was an exception, because untill last year the rules were not clear. Now UEFA has changed the rule.

Defoe was 3rd man for most of the season behind Keane and Mido. Defoe hasnt been great this season, really under preformed, he really has to step his game up even to stay on the bench.

Personnally i think Spurs would do well in CL. I say we are good enough to get out of the group stage and then anything can happen come the knock out rounds.
