Did anyone catch the Gatorade U.S. Soccer commercial during the ESPN baseball game tonight? Highlights of the National Team set against an instrumental version of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." Can anyone point me to the ad online?
Saw the commercial this morning. I thought is was VERY cool. The whole time while watching it, I thought it would reveal itself as a Nike commercial... until I saw the Gatorade slogan. This is probably the sweetest commercial yet for soccer (Nike's "let's take 2 seconds to talk about soccer" commercial is way up there too). The video footage of the roof about to collaspe on the U.S. team in a visitor locker room in Central America because of wild crowds and the "Yankees Go Home" banners... priceless. We need more commercials like this. The reality of world passion in soccer. Great job Gatorade.
Just saw the commercial this morning during the Sportscenter rerun. I was reading the paper when it came on and I just heard the Take me out to the Ballgame tune in the background, and when I looked up to see what was going on I was pleasently surprised to see the ad. It's extremely well done. I was watching it my campus student center, and everyone in the room was intently watching it, so well done Gatorade/US Soccer. It's a really great idea for a commercial, and I'm excited for all the soccer related ads we're going to see in the next few weeks/months.
Worked for me. Had to do the popup blocker allow; then it took a while to download and turned out to be a quicktime type file.
Wow!!! I saw it at halve time during the Champions League game between Arsenal and Villarreal on ESPN2. My question is what is the reaction to the commercial with the general public. Were is Gatorade placing this commercial, NHL or NBA playoffs? Aaron
This video changes the game. Make no mistake - this represents another huge step in the right direction. Gatorade gets it! The only thing missing from this video was Gooch's Borghetti stare down. If you take the current geopolitical situation we are in - Americans can now identify with and accept the US team. The "Yankey go home!" sign is the sucker punch that people understand now in the context of Iraq. But more directly the whole baseball v. soccer stuff is great with how the music is layered. If you look at the US team shots too - they picked the young guys - Beasley, Donovan, Dempsey and Twellman - Gatorade isn't borrowing the faces of soccer old - they are showing these young kids going up against tough odds - away from home - in inclement weather - roof shaking terror - and getting the job done the American way. It's a great ad for all of these reasons - it simply in 30 seconds connects and resonates with everything good in soccer, the team and the US - while mixing it up with where we are. That sort of emotion that is generated is exactly what is missing from the general US sports landscape understanding of soccer. Hate to say it but it helps that group get it - because they now understand more about the rest of the world than they did before when all sports/things started and ended in the US.
The page just says done. Does the download dialog box automatically open, or is there a link on the page to click? EDIT - There, it finally worked after I restarted the browser.
Gatorade just placed the commercial toward the end of LOST this evening. Great commercial. I felt like I had to pinch myself there for a second because it came out of no where.
I got chills when I saw this commercial, I love it. I saw it on CBS on primetime 8:30 pm. This is the first time I've seen something about soccer on a major station. We should all be so excited that this is happening in the country we love with the sport we love. God bless America and good luck to our boys in Germany.
Does it bother anyone just a little bit that they show the Twellman;s goal twice in a row late in the commercial? The shots are from different angles, but surely they could have found another goal to include.
I almost fell out of my chair when I saw it. One of the best US soccer commercials I have ever seen. It makes the MLS Embrace the Colors seem like a high school cartoon production.
--I still haven't seen it on a sports channel. Everytime I've seen it, it has been during primetime on a network. Nice to see a soccer ad outside of the weekly ESPN2 broadcast.
Couldn't believe it when I caught the commercial on FOX last night, during Cops. Checked with the remote to make sure it was on a network channel and not FSC or ESPN2 and there it was. One of the best soccer commercials I've seen. With the World Cup still 6 weeks away we will probably see it quite a few times.
That's a good spot. Too bad there wasn't one like it before the qualifiers (I've long thought that the US WCQ's have more untapped marketing potential than any other soccer event).
