    Hi everybody,

lets use this thread to put some usefull information that can help people that will be in Munich during the WC06 (I'm one of them).

I found a site where you can find every single hotel in Munich, see the hotel location in a map and also there are links to all hotels web pages (you have to select a district before).

    try it: http://www.munich-info.de/map/city/welcome_en.html

I realized that flying to Munich is cheaper than taking a train.

It´s called Andechs and is constantly under the Top10 of beers.
You don´t need to go to their monestry as they have at least 2 beer cellers that i know of: Berlin and Munich.

Is anyone aware how far the stadium is from the central station. www.bahn.de says it is a local train journey followed by a 20 minute walk. Any idea how long the local train part of the trip will take?

    Thanks

your can go by train for 90€ with the "weltmeisterticket"
if you have a ticket you can go by train for 54€ for ways with 1-200km. 74€ for ways with 1-350€ and for 90€ 350km and longer

but munich-berlin are more then 350 i think

Der Preis von 54 Euro gilt bis 200 Kilometer, 74 Euro kosten Entfernungen bis 350 Kilometer und 90 Euro alle längeren Strecken.

the stadium stop is Fröttmaning, which looks to be a few hundred metres from the stadium, perhaps a 10 minute walk when it's crowded. The train from there to the hbf takes about 25 minutes, changing at Marienplatz. Trains appear to leave/arrive Fröttmaning about every 10 minutes on the day of the match.

    Do you have a car?

If you do, I'd recommend going to Andechs. It's a nice place to drink beer. I'd go during a weekday to avoid the crowds. You can get the by S-Bahn also, but it might be a little walk from the station (Herrsching)

Close by, there are two lakes (Starnberger See and Ammersee) that people from Munich flock to when the weather is nice.

I will be backpacking through Europe and Munich is one of my stops for the WC - I was wondering whether lockers are available are the Hbf? I couldn't find any info on their website:

    http://www.hauptbahnhof-muenchen.de/

Also, are there any other public lockers at any other locations that are safe? (paranoid that they all may be taking at the Hbf since it will be a game day) Also, how much do they cost - probably need a bigger size to fit my backpack? Any help would be appreciated!

A friend of mine who travels to Europe frequently and makes a point to sample the local brew in each city he visits strongly recommended this place when he heard I would be staying in Munich.

According to the following sites (in german) , you can lock your baggage at the main station in Munich, Hauptbahnhof, and at another station, Ost-Bahnhof:

    http://www.muenchen.de/Stadtleben/F...ervice/12004/0007agepaeckschliessfaecher.html
    http://www.bahnhof.de/site/bahnhoefe/de/sued/muenchen__hbf/service/gepaeck/gepaeck.html

if you have a big bag, it'll probably cost 4 euros per day
