I'll happily party with fans of other MLS teams at tailgate parties - as long as we're at tailgates for USMNT games.

It seems that there is a consensus that these skinhead retards started this crap without being provoked. It also sounds like this isn't the first time. Something needs to be done. They need to be banned, period.

I have to say mixing the tailgates, barring some larger event (9/11 benefit, etc) just doesn't seem necessary. I've met up with folks I know up in the swamps of Jersey and I think we're both more comfortable meeting away from the bulk of the supporter's groups. It doesn't have to be kumbayah or Firm v. Firm.

I guess we're the idiots for expecting CSC to learn from earlier miscues.

Feel free to find a single post defending the idiots who attacked the NY fans.

    To answer a recent question:

Yes, about 2 seasons ago (my mind is mush) a pretty sizeable chunk of Metro/ESC fans came down. I think it was only 2 buses, but it was enough that they had a section to themselves...

And the reason I wanted to come back to this is that there was a minor in-stadium skirmish with La Norte. They sat them in a pretty similar proximity to LaN (but this was pre-Beisbol). And, then I believe the beginnings of some nonsense out in the parking lot.

Which REALLY raises the question: Knowing, as we all did, that Red Bull was shipping down such a large group. And, knowing, as anyone with any recall of the above would have:

Why wasn't more down to separate the fan groups, provide in-stadium security, and get the RBNY folks to their buses?

Sorry -- the quote function did not work for me on the my last post.

I was replying to j1mbr0wn who had not read any of the prior posts who was inferring that it was both our faults.....when liquor gets involved, bad bad blood on both sides, yadda, yadda, yadda.

I just dont feel that that is an accurate portrayal of the situation.

The walk to and from the busses should've been done there's no doubt about that. As far as in stadium seating there wasn't a lot of choice, unless y'all would've been happy with upper deck. I have to say I don't mind having away support in the bowl as it creates some fine noise but the current stickball figure of RFK negates some of the options.

Last year they put all visiting fans, NY or not, on the other side of the baseball game. I really don't know why they had to put them so close to our section this year.

It's a good idea, but I also feel that one key is policing one's own. It appears that quite a few of my fellow United fans are fully aware of whom some of these clowns are. Not their names, but rather who the clump of shirtless skinheads or whomever/whatever are. Policing one's own is half the battle. There's nothing like a fellow fan telling another fan to get their ---- together to help fix things. These problems need to be fixed in house, and then between one another. I really do believe there is nothing like a fan of one's own team telling you, "you're out of line" to get you to act right. That is unless you're drunk in which case the, "you zthingk yorrre bedder zan meee?" kind of situation can develop.

Part of the issue is that this is between NY fans and D.C. fans. A NY fan telling a DC fan all problems are on their end is like a Philly fan telling an SF fan they need to learn to behave themselves. It comes across as ridiculous from a NY fan even with its own obvious merits. Clearly though, in this instance, some horrible stuff happened and internal policing and work to insure it never happens again is in order.

Yeah i saw that guy. Right after the first goal he ripped of his shirt and ran back and forth in front our the ESC sections then for some unexplained reason he slipped past our leaders and security and ran right down into La Norte.

Now if something were to happen to him, i would understand. Watching him it looks like he was drunk and just wanted to rub your faces in it a little. Security took him away and well IMO he should get a season long ban for RBNY games for his behavior. Enciting a riot or making aggressive advances leads to these kids of confrontations and should be punished.

But you can't compare some lone guy drunk waiving his teams shirt in your face with a gang of thugs pre meditating a physical attack on people. Our guy was just a plain idiot, those skin heads are people with ill intentions looking for a fight.

  15. To be fair to DC United and SEC, they didn't have a lot of time to prepare for the fact that 700 or so RBNY fans would be coming to the game. Red Bull announced the free trip, what, 4 weeks ago at most ? If the team were still called the Metrostars we'd be looking at 100 visiting fans, max. Probably the sections they were put into were the only ones available in the lower bowl where there were enough seats available.

Because there were so many of them. Usually they put them up in the corner, but there were so many that it would move over into the choice seats where there are a lot of season ticket holders. I am sure United put them in the largest place they could find that would move the least amount of season ticket holders.

    This means that it is:
    A. In a crappy spot unless you guys want to go to the upper deck
    B. Behind La Norte in the present configuration if a lot of supporters come down

On a side note, there was a thread in MLS N&A about where and how clubs decide to place away groups. Might be a good idea to dig it up and see what the policy is in the rest of MLS.

True. I think Corey and the rest of the ESC leadership yesterday did a fantastic job keeping the group civil. They worked with security to keep the isles clean and prevent fans from engaging in nasty behavior or nasty songs. Other than that one idiot who slipped past us that went into La Norte (which Corey was pissed at us for not grabbing him sooner) things went off without a hitch during the game.

We all need to work within our selves to get members or non-members identified and banned because in the end all these people do is reflect poorly on supporters groups as a whole and thats not a reputation we want or deserve league wide.

Just be sure you don't attempt to 'police' them on your own. I get the feeling they don't care about DC United or anything, they just want to fight and would love the opportunity to show you how tough they are by beating up on you 5 or 6 to 1 (CSC style).

It's probably a moot point. DC knows who they are, they will be banned and you better believe the Red Bull management will be provided with all the pertinent info.

That Guy has a myspace page and i'm sure lots of his cronies are friends on it. He used to be in a DC United myspace group but I can't remember which one, I'll try and look for it.

I saw some commotion at the end of the match in the away supporters' section. I didn't pay too much attention because I had my cousin's 12 yo with me. I wish we could all just act civil. Soccer is on the fringe and we don't need knuckleheads creating negative impressions. As a DC United fan I'm horrified that anyone was attacked at our stadium. Our team is the class of the league and our fans need to live up to that standard (myself included).

I'd like to know why La Norte doesn't have their section to themselves? Is it the informal nature of your group? If you guys are unfortunate enough to attract these skinheads then maybe its time to work with the FO to create an exclusive section. From reading this thread, and other "altercation" threads, it seems the first fans to take the blame are the supporters' groups. Defined group boundaries and memberships would help to direct blame to those responsible and not simply the good people of the supporters' groups.

    ...just my opinion...
