Im new here, so please dont come up with a smart ass response. Are they like the Yankees of soccer or something? Can't wail till Dynamo vs. FC play one another.
Just one of those bad blood situations. . . some games got nasty, some of Chicago's players are "physical", etc.
I resemble that remark. By the way ther are some us "Yankees" on this board and I find that offensive... So I say you have to change your teams name again.
Well, there's still time to change again before the opening kick-off (at 18:36, mind you!) We could have the press conference down at the local Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin Robbins first thing Sunday morning. Guaranteed crowd, if nothing else.
I tell ya. The hatred is for real. OK. Hatred is a big word. But. There is something to that rivarly that goes beyond FCD and Chitcago fans in their respective cities. One day, when I coming out of work from a on-the-job training, here in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, I was leaving with my Dallas jersey. I was coming up to this group of trainee straglers. Said my polite "hello's" "have a good day", when, out of nowhere, "Go Fire!". WFT!? I turned to see around which of my mexican pips was a turncoat and Chitcago fahr fan. Too late. The guys wasn't there anymore! Crazy! But why was I po'd about someone mentioning Chitcago? Why the hate? If you have followed Dallas since almost Day 1...it's just the history between the two teams.
for some generic info about FC Dallas vs Chicago Fire, aka The Brimstone Cup visit this: http://www.brimstonecup.com/index.htm someone else on these forums wrote something about the history, but can't remember who or where the info is, so hopefully they'll post more. there is thought that now that Chicago has shifted conferences that the rivalry has lost something, and maybe it has, but the ABC crew pushed the idea of the rivalry.. there were many shots of the Chicago supporters section in addition to the Dallas.. it looks like a healthy rivalry to me even it was bigger in the past
I wrote this sometime last month, I think. The fans of both teams would spend entire winters accusing each other's team of being no-talent hacks. We were right of course. When Hristo was on the Fire, things really got heated because he had an ego as big as anyone in soccer, and he made an arse of himself by taunting Dallas. At a game in Chicago in the US Open Cup, he went out of his way to make the Burn look bad and he and Coach Dir got into it. If memory serves, Dir actually tried to punch him...but my memory might not be right. And Dema broke the legs of two, yes two, Dallas players. Malice or no malice, it's a fact. I need to correct myself...hate is too strong a word for a team you respect. But beating them is as good as beating anyone in the league. And for what amounts to old schoolers like me, it will always be that way. viking co founder Brimstone Cup
SHHHHHH!!!! Be vewy vewy qwiet. ::::: was at the game. But he is not supposed to be 'visibile' on the boards. on-topic content: i'm walking down the sideline 15 minutes after the game is over to go retrieve the strip on the north end; goon posers are down on the field packing their stuff up... goon poser #1: could you hear us over there? could ya? could ya? security dude: I don't know goon poser #2: we were loud, weren't we? we were loud! we were loud! I fully expected to look over and see Beavis sitting on a couch, chuckling... huh-huh, huh-huh, huh-huh he said loud, huh-huh, huh-huh...... That exchange right there says it all about their insular, tribal mentality. Section 8 truly is starting to border on being a cult. It's not about their team. God knows that it can't be about their country. It's about them. Sad. -bs
The simple answer is this - in 1998, there were a series of games that were riveting and highly intense, including a USOC semifinal (knocking the defending USOC champs, Dallas, out of the competition) that really set things up. Then in 1999 Dallas met them in the playoffs and for all intents and purposes, between Brandon's broken leg and Dallas' come from behind victory to knock the defending MLS Cup champs (Chicago) out of the playoffs, it was the hottest rivalry in the league. Liam Murtaugh and Viking began the process of immortalizing this passion and in 2001, you had your first official Brimstone series. And make no mistake, the Brimstone was created to ensure the rivalry would remain. And frankly, I think it has and continues to serve its purpose. How will the rivalry with Houston develop? How will it compare? Who knows. But just because Dallas will have a new rivalry with Houston doesn't mean that there is any reason they can't maintain their rivalry with Chicago. And as we saw yesterday, the rivalry is doing just fine.
Yeah, what about that little "Fire" corner at PHP??? They were very excited after that first score. Glad we could shut them up.
Most of you guys haven't seen it because it kept dropping down in the posts, but take a look at the Sink the Merrimac! posts where I have photos of their new stadium pointing out that they've ripped off the design of the CSA Merrimac, of all things, from the Civil War! I pointed it out to the Section 8'ers on-line, and they were beligerent. Anyway, visit the post and tell me if you don't agree.
Granted the mileage is a bit different, but he Metro..err..Red Bulls had 800 supporters show up for the DC Game. - Chanting "DC Sucks!" with quite a resonating tone for television. That's potentially some powerful incentive to show the Chi-Fire boys why we maintain the Brimstone.
For one thing the drive to Chi-town is immensely longer than the one from NY to DC and for another thing the team paid for their buses. That being said I've already got my plane tickets to Chicago for July
Oh yea, the drive is hellaciously much longer. If I heard correctly, 13 busses to get all 800 of em down to DC. That teams got wings! As for Chicago...the Mrs. and I heavily considering the flight.
Actually, when O'Brien came to take the corner while we here chanting that, he looked up and laughed...Regardless of what we think of him, it was a nice moment...Have a sense of humor, it was years ago.
Sixty-seven everyone included in the corner. And abotu that mqny flags. It was reall classless for those stupid effs to move next to us and put their banners and flags over ours. expect treatment in kind if any of you effs have the stones to show in Bridge View.
