    ...Ho...Hum....

You make a big mistake in attempting to malign the JuveLeo...

First they don't attack manager's car or phone in death threats...nor do they kill other fans in the stands with fireworks. And there have been more incidents at the Luz and Dragao with objects being thrown at players then at the Alvalade...

I myself have walked from Alvalade to the Luz with these guys without incident...only to have the NNBoys and the Diabos Vermelhos attempt to start something. Because those groups only have the party outside to look forward to since inside the stadium they only view..."Merda":D

I would like to see you in the middle of all those "betinhos" but I think the smell from Seixal would chase everyone away:D

No I meant respect or are more aware of Porto then Benfica as the thread title indicates 'most popular' and has nothing to do with fan support

To say that popular and being a fan are the same is ludacris. Hey Porto is popular and Boavista isn't so I guess you are a fan of Porto right? Your words not mine.

My friend is a Man U fan and knows zero about Portugal except for the fact that Porto always are in the CL and are a good side. Talk to him about Sporting or Benfica and he dosen't recognise those names (well now thanks to me)

Benfica fans need to realise that most non-SL fans know little about our teams save for what they do in euro competition and the 1960's are so irrelevant to them I mean hell Anderlecht and Red Star have a ECC under their belt are they "glorioso" or a team to be respected today as a european power? Hell no.

However NOW with Benfica close to the semi's I'm sure they are gainning back some of the popularity that Porto's got.

Since I started this thread just to clarify something... I'm not Portuguese, nor do I follow the Portuguese league.

What I wanted to know was who had the most fans among Portuguese abroad. When we are talking about people abroad, IMO fans/popularity is the same thing.

I thought Porto was the most popular/most fans, but I guess that's just because their recent success in Europe. GoodDead, you're probably right that Benfica's popularity will rise now, that's how it works.

you thought that porto was the most popular and had the most fans, but thats not the case, by winning the champions league recently it helped alot porto, but still not close to the popularity/fans that Benfica got.

they're so loyal that their stadium always has less ppl than the other 2.
and they're so passionate that they love to see their team lose.

so that juveleo was the first claque, but right now juveleo is nothing compared to Diabos Vermelhos, NN and Superdragoes. like SFC said "their nothing but a bunch of betinhos trying to look like bad asses."

Class and Dignity :D you guys are proud of your team not winning anything.

I wasn't going to bother responding, but I thought that I should do my good deed for the day, so I am going to enlighten someone less fortunate then myself..well...you know a mental midget.

You shouldn't speak to losing when the Lampioes currently are looking up at SCP in the standings...secondly the Lampioes were handled not once but twice very easily by SCP...

It's like comparing apples and oranges the groups you mentioned on homophobic rascist Nazi's

This quote is just utter mental retardation...tell me exactly what Benfica has won...your looking at a team that might come away this year with nothing...

A team has a lot of fans because it is popular, and is popular because it has a lot of fans. I dont know where you get this logic that I am a fan of Porto, because I am not. I don't understand it at all.

Benfica has consistently been in the CL as well. They haven't won it recently like Porto, but they have consistently been in it. And if he needs a reminder of who Benfica is, then he should check the group stage matches history, and find out who knocked his team out this year.

Thats fine...he asked for the team that was most popular in North America. The answer is Benfica. It has the most fans, because it is the most popular team in North America. Never once did I talk about glory or prestige or past tournaments. Your words not mine.

Sure. Except they already had more fans and were already more popular.

And they are in second place in the Superliga this year.

Maybe we could call them the eternal runner-up.

Who are the Champions right now??? thank you
and i don't think you want to compare the titles Benfica won compared to sportem?? or which team has more victories over each other??
wow sportem beat Benfica twice this year. i know its a big deal for lagartos cuz that doesnt happen often.
right now sportem is in front of us, but still 6 games left in the end lets see whos in front. and keepin the tradition this is going to be another year of the Almost made to the champions league group stage, Almost beat Halmstad for the uefa cup, Almost won the taca, Almost won the Liga. The novela continues next year.
Benfica are the current Champions and they won the supertaca, and once again are in the quarter finals of the champions league this year. what sportem won this year let me see.............................................
Taca BES . congratulations. another plastic trophy. thats the only thing that sportem wins .

So the only retard here is you. year after year without winning anything but always acting like their the best, that they win this and that blah blah blah blah :D when in reality they never win anything they just let me say this plain and simple, SUCKS period. So i dont know what drugs your doing, but let me tell you has to be some good stuff to keep you thinkin that sportem is better than Benfica.

None of the above. Probably Boavista. They were pretty much the only team with enough money to start building a new stadium before Euro2004.

Everybody else has debt. LOTS OF IT.

The question is "Which is the most popular club". The answer is Benfica. They have the most fans in Portugal, the most fans around the rest of the world, and are the only team to have a filial on both Jupiter and Uranus ;)

As for Sporting, I will say that they are the second most popular club in Portugal, but not so the rest of the world. Porto's European success in recent years has brought them a lot of attention, no doubt, however within Portugal's border's, it has been historically Benfica first, Sporting second, and Porto third.
