I hope the MLS can keep this up for 2007, because online streaming is expensive. Hopefully, they won't go pay soon. For the Week of April 1, 2006: http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/mls/sights/index.jsp?club=mls Crew vs. Wizards at 8:30 P.M. EST. NY Red Bulls vs. D.C. United at 5:00 P.M. EST. All the matches above, will be on April 1, 2006. RSL vs. Chivas USA, on April 2, 2006, at 7:00 P.M. EST. Sadly, one match won't have any radio links (good luck dial-up people): April 2, 2006. Colorado vs. Houston at 7:30 P.M. EST. Of course, the other matches are either on ESPN 2, or ABC, and those are viewable only by TV, however, there are radio links. Here's my question to the other leagues, why no online video streaming of games? MLS is doing it... At least, give us radio streaming for FREE. And the biggest question to Fox Sports Em Espanhol, why do we need to pay for online Libertdores matches, when the MLS if offering their matches for FREE???
One question: earlier today I watched the MLS Cup edition of "MLS Pictures" and the video would not fit to the size of Windows Media Player. I messed with all sorts of various settings and whatnot, but could never get it any bigger. Will I be able to watch these games on [a literal] full computer screen like last season?
Because the other leagues want their patrons to pay. Why MLS is willing to give this service for free is puzzling as I think that people would pay for it, although I love the streaming and hope they do not stop.
I hope they will too. As a fan of the league from England the streams made me a casual fan who once in a while checked the standings to following it a weekly basis. I mean instead of having to read about what happened I can actually see it which makes a big difference. If not the live games at least keep the highlights and perhaps have one live game. Only drawback to all this is keeping up with the league all season and missing the final due to contractual reasons. Viva MLS and all the best for 2007 season. Here's to drama, excitment and more decent goals this year. (at least I can bank on decent goals if De Rosario, Ruiz and Donovan are not making the world cup)
All I can tell you is that last week when they streamed the Coffee Cup matches from Charleston, they were like last year and you could view in any WMP size you wanted..
Perhaps not.. It was at MLSnet that I got the streams.. I didn't note the addresses of the streams, however.. Or was it just the one match? I can't remember... I hate senility!
That was the Charleston Battery's stream. they are looking at carrying a similar stream for all the Battery home matches this year.
I agree, the streaming is a lovely touch by the guys at MLS. It's what made me a fan in France, because I was able to follow the teams, and eventually became a fan of DC. So bravo to them for offereing it, and I hope they keep it up.
Ole' MLS!! i love those streaming videos...people always wonder why im in my dorm room watching...ahahaha....then they hear the yelling of either GOOOAAALLL or YESSSSS!!!!!
As I understand it, (and I may be wrong), part of the reason that MLS can stream matches for free (but not ABC or ESPN matches) has to do with MLS actually owning the broadcasting rights to their own matches instead of selling them outright like most leagues do. I think.
I'm listening to the fire-dallas game on mls' radio and it says the video service is free for the first two weeks of the season only. Cause for concern?
yea, im seeing the same thing... doesnt look good. Im guessing there ganna charge us for this is for now on but ive been looking all over mlsnet and i dont see anything on it
I'm seeing that to, but i can't fined any info about price packages or anything. I work on Saturday's so it's the only way i can see the game and I'm not sure i can afford to pay for it right now. I'm going to email MLSnet and tell them it's a bad idea to charge for this because it really grows the fan base.
This is Fraking awesome man...I never knewt they did this. I will now finally get to be a fan of a certain team (DC yeahhh) instead of just catching whichever games come on tv. Actually i'll still watch what ican on tv but now I can follow the Revs and DC from Arkansas, you can't beat this with a big stick
It seems that we will be having to pay for the service eventually. My only other guess as to an explanation is that the DirecTV logo is on there while I wait, and maybe DirecTV is offering a FREEview for the first two weekends. I doubt this, but it wouldn't be that far fetched as there is nothing on the MLS site about signing up and payment options for the online games.
I can see why they might eventually want to charge for the streaming video. But how about this as a good will gesture: 1) Let international users watch broadband broadcasts of MLS games for free since these folk can't subscribe to DirectKick themselves. 2) Post free video highlights of every MLS game.
