Do you all think Kristine Lilly is on the right track to win the next FIFA player of the Year ? I think she is, her game is very consistent and does better in scoring.
It's hard to say having seen only three games this year, but I'd give Shannon Boxx my vote. She was dominating in the games I've seen, and the Algarve Cup sounded like more of the same.
The FIFA player of the year Award is based on Team's coaches votes, and it seems to me that coaches are more of aware of What Lilly can do in a game these days, so she might as well get huge votes to win.
That includes coaches from hundreds of teams that never play the US. Expect lots of them to vote for Sun Wen even if she couldn't walk.
They've watched her play at least on TV. I haven't watched her play live in the stadium but, based on what i saw on TV, i think she is a good player and deserved to be awarded the FIFA highest honor.
Kristine Lilly is one of the most unselfish players I have ever seen, both live and on TV. Everybody remembers Brandi Chastain after her PK to win WWC'99. Not many remember that the US would never have made it there without Lilly's header to prevent a goal. The simple fact is that the deserving player does not always get the recognition.
I like your post. I mention Lilly heroic last year on a thread I can't remember, and the vultures came out. nough said.
She is now playing more freedom without Mia Hamm & Foudy, sometime we see her on the right, middle and front, so she scored more goals and getting more recognize which, i think she deserved that.
