I'm a bit surprised Fabio hasn't featured a bit more for Che this year. He has always impressed me when I've seen him, which has admittedly not been that often. But if he's willing to stay for a bit more money, why not offer it? I mean, say its a total of a million more over four years that he wants. Well, if they let him walk for nothing, getting a replacement is easily going to cost more than that million.

Sounds like Robert Pires is being offered a 2yr deal by Valencia to leave RIGHT NOW!

Do you like this move? Should VCF do it?

Personally, I've never been a fan of Pires at all. I've always thought of him as a a total flopper. But I do think that he would be a nice addition to the squad. His fluid style of play would fit in nicely with Valencia, and if he comes on the cheap, I would be very happy to take him.

What's the latest on Aurelio? I've always thought he's a great player, though he doesn't get much time on the pitch.

I think Pires has been one of the key contributors to Arsenal's success. He has been a difference maker--making key passes or scoring key goals. With that said, I think he's not where he was a couple years back and I don't see the need to take on another player that is probably on the downside of his career (as Valencia did with Kleivert). Pires can add a winner's attitude but I also think there are others on the team who provide that (after all Valencia won the UEFA Cup two years ago, won the league recently, and there are still players from the squads that went to the CL finals).

As far as Aurelio is concerned, I haven't seen Valencia play much this season so I can't speak to his overall improvements. However, when I saw every game that Gol showed last season and I thought he stunk. He pushed forward a lot and his crosses sucked and his shots were off target.

But maybe both Aurelio and Pires are suffering from the same problem: not enough playing time. Pires is not a starter at Arsenal and other posts in this thread suggest the same about Aurelio. Take care.

Goal.com had an "exclusive" report yesterday that Barcelona have gained an interest in striker David Villa. Of course, this comes at the same that Chelsea supposedly having a major interest in Samuel Eto'o. The article does state that Villa isn't entirely happy at the Mestalla, which I hope isnt' true. Hopefully there isn't a whole lot to this, but we'll have to see...

Two bits of news/rumors. The first one is good - that Villa is going to sign a new deal to keep him with Valencia until 2011.

The second is not so good. Apparently the new Madrid president wants to bring in new players who are from "closer to home", and two targeted players are Vicente and Pablo Aimar. No way Che would sell either for cheap, but if Madrid come in with big enough bids...

I've always felt like it's just a matter of time before we see Pablito in a Madrid shirt. He seems like the perfect replacement for Zizou.

Valencia are reportedly going after Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo. Weighing up a 17m pound bid this summer. Would be a nice buy if they could get him, but if he's willing to leave United, bet on a lot of other interest.

Can you imagine Vicente on the left wing and Ronaldo on the right? That would terrorize La Liga for a long time. Hopefully Ronaldo wouldn't be a replacement for Vicente if he does move, but who knows.

Anyone know how good David Silva is supposed to be? Heard he's a Vicente clone...?

    urelio Set For Liverpool Move

According to reports, Liverpool have won the race to sign Valencia defender Fabio Aurelio.
The Brazilian is available on a free transfer this summer and the Reds are said to have beaten off competition from Manchester United and Olympiakos to sign the player.

The 26-year-old will be offered a four-year deal worth £25,000-a-week, and should he sign, will join up with former Ches coach Rafa Benitez.

He has won three Liga titles and one Uefa Cup in his time at the Mestalla.

Aurelio has confirmed that he's leaving Valencia in the summer, but he has yet to determine where.

Someone asked about David Silva, and there's sort of a reason why I have his nickname. In my opinion, he will be the best attacking midfielder playing in La Liga within three years. He is the best player on Celta the entire year on loan, and he is the sparkplug of the team. Little has been said about him from other places because Valencia has been loaning him out to obscure places like Eibar and Celta the last two years, but trust me, if Valencia sold Silva away like they appear they will be with Gavilan, it may come back to haunt them for a while.

From what I know, Silva is most natural on the left wing. With or without Gavilan, Los Ches already have Vicente there and he doesn't appear likely to go anywhere. Is Silva just as capable playing in the middle, or up front? I really haven't had a chance to watch him with Celta this season and thats kind of disappointing.

David Silva at the start of the year was really only a left sided player, but as the season has moved on, he's really been good in playing behind the striker or on the right side. He's far better on the left side because that is what has come natural to him, but he is capable of playing behind the striker or on the flank as needed by substitutions in the side or a change of tactic. As a relatively intelligent football person and subtracting my bias as a Celta fan, Silva is definitely going to be a real special talent. If you dont believe me, check out some of the goals he's been part of at www.videoscelestes.com (the Perera goal against Betis is one of the better examples).

As of today, Javier Subirats, Valencia director of sports, has quit his job. No news as to why, though perhaps some conflict or other lead him to make such a decision even before the season is over.
