They finally announced the May 26 game at Browns stadium. http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_280807.html Will the Columbus guys be organizing the supporters section? I know it's a ways off, I'm just excited that Ohio's getting a WC send-off game. Can't wait.
Cleveland instead of Columbus. Now that's an interesting choice. Could their be an annoucement about a 14th team in MLS in the offing?
The Tuesday night game in Nashville is even more odd in my book... The last two WC's they did a Sunday-Thursday-Sunday Pre-WC Tour. This year they really packed them in with a Tuesday-Friday-Sunday.
Man, oh, man am I digging this! If Northcoast United becomes official in 2007, sorry guys, but I'll be buying my tickets early. If anyone wants to get rolling on this, let me know. I know the lay of the land pretty well in C-Town.
Nothing personal, but your post makes me want to punch your teeth out. That being said, I think USSF is scheduling these games so tight together to help give the players a feel for the pace of the WC. I know it's extreme, having 3 games in 6 days. Perhaps by having those 3 games packed together like that, it will make the 5 days Group E games seem a little less exhausting.
Do I say that I'm going to dump Crew to support Indianapolis if they got a team? No, I'd still be Crew. Sure it'd be nice to have a team here, but one, it will never happen, and two, if it did, I'd attend games just to see games live. I wouldn't be a fan of the team.
That's easy to say now. If/when Indianapolis gets a team it could potentially be another story. Seems to me that most people that have been so hard and fast "I'll support Crew no matter if my town gets a team or not", are talking a load of old rubbish. Might I suggest that if your civic pride is that low, move.
I know Chels, you're so Crew that if I cut your finger off Jon Busch would fall out. Well at least a Busch product of some sort. If Columbus ever got a second team, and they donned purple and played on the northside of Columbus. Sorry, that's where I'm from, it's who I am.
First off, Indianapolis doesn't deserve a team. I'm not from Indianapolis. I'm not a native of Indiana even. Just during the time that I have lived here, I have come to realize that this city is crap at supporting sports. Even the Colts and Pacers fans don't have the kind of support a big league sport should command. Yeah, they're building a new stadium for the Colts with tax payer money (which I'm pissed about). But this isn't a town like Chicago or Pittsburgh where the football support is amazing. This isn't like Detroit supporting the Red Wings, or Los Angeles supporting the Lakers. The fan base consists of a lot of fair-weather fans, and fans that would rather watch the game on TV then go out and support the team live. Going to a Pacers game is boring as hell, and yet Indiana is supposed to be the home of basketball. IU gets better support than the Pacers. I guess I've been too nomadic in my life to really feel an attachment to a "home town team". I suppose it's easier for me to pick a team like Crew and support them from wherever and not worry about falling in with the local whatever team's crowd. Secondly, if AkronSoccerFan wants to go get behind a Cleveland team, that's fine for him and that's his business. But I think it isn't a very classy move to come onto the Crew boards, of whom he's currently a fan, and spout off about how he's ready to jump ship as soon as word goes out that a Cleveland team is on the way. It would be like somebody else coming in and saying their ditching Crew and going to become a F*re fan or a Quakes fan (an example comes to mind). It just rubs me the wrong way. I'm not going to get excited for them. I'm not going to get all teary-eyed and wish them well as they move on. That's just my point of view.
Ummmmmmmm. So about this game......... I've never been to Browns stadium, how is parking and traffic around there? I assume it will be terrible being a Friday evening and all.... Also, and good resturaunts/places to stop at around there?
i dunno. wouldnt it be ********ing awesome if you could just hop on a train in cbus and go to cleveland and walk to the stadium? thatd rock.
Browns Stadium is right on lake, but not far away from the Warehouse District, which is basically equivalent to the Arena District in C-bus in terms of eateries, bars, nighclubs, etc. Pretty good variety of places. If anyone's planning on getting very early, say pre tailgate early, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is literally next door to CBS. Closing time is at 5:30, I believe, but having been inside of the place a couple times, it is excellent. Given that the crowd for the men's national team is likely to be half that of a typical Browns game, parking shouldn't be an issue in terms of finding spaces (but be prepared to shell out big money for the closest lot. The main lot is located just west of the stadium. I would think any Sam's Army tailgates would be set up there. Be forwarned, though, these lots are city-owned and the tailgate rules are supposedly much more strict that at Crew Stadium. Given than it is Friday night, I would guess the traffic would be heavy through the Route 2, I-90, I-71 area. However, its no worse than any other metro area rush hour. I anyone needs directions from Columbus to CBS, I can furnish them. Actually, there is a way for people to ride the train to the stadium. The RTA Rapid Waterfront line has its own stop at CBS. Coming for the Columbus, the best place to get on would proably be at Hopkins Airport. Again, if anyone want directions, I can funish then. (Probably will be a lot cheaper than parking downtown. I'll probably ride the rapid myself.) On a seperate note, sorry starting the spat that dragged this threat to grade school levels. KK, I know its not personal, but I've already stated my position on MLS in Northeast Ohio several times here. I love the Crew and I love V-Army, but if the Buckeye Darby does become a reality, I'll be trading chants with you guys from the other end of the stadium.
1) Stadium Area has multiple opportunities in the field of food and adult beverages. Take the day off and spend a couple hours at the Rock Hall. 2) They could build a stadium in my back yard and give me free lifetime seats and I'd still be a Crew fan. I'd just be a Crew fan who went to a lot of other games. But to each his (or her) own. Not gonna judge. 3) Tickets for the Cleveland USMNT/Venezuela match go on sale today via private sale through various organizations.
