though stated in the other thread, i wanted to add my words here. i'm not going to pretend i agreed with doug on everything, and it would be fair to say i called for his resignation on multiple occasions. i say that not to disrespect the man or cause hurt to his family, friends or the galaxy fans, i say it because to pretend otherwise would be disrespectful and dishonest. despite my dislike for the way he ran the team i always knew that he wanted the exact same thing as i did: a victorious galaxy. he worked hard for that in the way that he thought best and was ultimately proven right last season. i appreciate all that he did for our team; he oversaw our transition to the best soccer facility in the land, he proved that teams in MLS can be profitable, he put together the team that won the double. at the end of the day it was far too soon for such a young man to pass on. my thoughts go out to his family.
Man oh man wayyyyyyyy too young. The guy was in shape too, I always was amazed how much he looked like one of my uncles. Rest in Peace, Doug.
I hadn't really even heard of the guy up until now, to be honest. But it is obvious he was instrumental in his club's success and he touched many of those involved in the soccer community. To me, he seemed like a man who did his job the best he could, and it showed. Part of the internal workings of the club that made winning the only thing the coaches and players had to worry about. Tragic loss for the Galaxy, especially at this time. But even more so for his family. That just kills me. It is a very sad day for US Soccer. RIP, Doug Hamilton.
I just saw this on ESPN.com and I've just been sitting in my chair absolutely stunned for the past 10 minutes before I decided to come over here and express my thoughts. Doug Hamilton, at the end of the day, sought only one thing in his job and that was the consistent success of the Galaxy. I can't thank him enough for his efforts in his role in shaping the club's current success through winning the Double and making us profitable, and his efforts in building up the sport in general in this country. He's been taken from his family and young son cruelly at too young an age. RIP Dougie, you will be missed.
A very sad day indeed...less than 24hours ago I was upset that our G's had blown a 2 goal lead...now all that doesn't seem important. R.I.P Doug.
Wow, this news is horrible. We've lost one of our own, someone who dreamt of seeing soccer become truly Major League in the U.S. and who was fortunate enough to contribute mightily towards that dream. That magical feeling you get when you walk into the HDC is largely due to Doug's hard work and love for the game and its fans. Doug, you've left the Galaxy much better off than when you found us. This upcoming season (and many more) are for you.
I've been here for an hour or two and can't stop listening to this song that I think would be very appropriate for the unfortunate occasion. I will remember you, will you remember me? Don't let your life pass you by, Weep not for the memories Remember the good times that we had? I let them slip away from us when things got bad. How clearly I first saw you smilin' in the sun Wanna feel your warmth upon me I wanna be the one I will rememeber you, will you remember me? Don't let your life pass you by Weep not for the memories I'm so tired but I can't sleep Standin' on the edge of something much to deep It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard But I will remember you, will you remember me? Don't let your life pass you by Weep not for the memories I'm so afraid to love you But more afraid to lose Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose Once there was a darkness Deep and endless night You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light And I will remember you, will you remember me? Don't let your life pass you by Weep not for the memories Weep not for the memories I'm so sad right now.
I think we all think of the Galaxy organization like family, sometimes we can't stand them but underneath it all we love them, and this happening has touched us all. As many have said, we may not have agreed with all his decisions but he was very personable, and always available when approached by fans. He was there for the fans, I once email him and got an instant reply. On behalf of the Galaxians, thank you for the dedication that you gave to the Galaxy and it's family of fans!! Some of us were thinking of sending flowers, I wonder if we can maybe set something up for his son, like a trust fund maybe or donations to the Galaxy Foundation in his honor?? I wish I had time to research and set something up but don't have the time to.
RIP Doug. You will be missed. The man did the double and he was a great supporter of soccer. No one will forget.
This puts it all in perspective. Soccer is just a game. This man left a wife and a young son behind. Doug and I are the same age. Its sobering. This man has left a mark in the world that will not soon be forgotten. I would like to see a permanent monument to Doug at the HDC. I will be there opening day to pay my respects.
We wouldnt have a league or organization nearly as successful without him. He cared about the team, obviously about the fans - what more could you ask for from a guy? Just a real shock.
Our condolenses to the Galaxy and all their fans. It's tough to know what to say in circumstances like this. I guess all we can say is that we'll keep his family in our prayers and ask that you remember him in the good times. La Barra Brava
I'm still shock to all of this. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hamilton family and friends as well as the Galaxy fans. He was the heart and soul of the L.A. organization. Way too young to go. R.I.P. Doug Hamilton.
My Condolences to all who loved, admired, & truly benefited by having him in their lives. It's not just a loss for them and the LA GALAXY Organization, but for the whole Soccer Community in the U.S. May he rest in Peace.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hamilton family, the LA Galaxy, their staff and supporters. He was a member of the entire American soccer family, and to lose him...its just staggering. R.I.P Doug Hamilton.
Simply stunning. We spar with each other all the time in here, but I think that most of us understand that we're all part of a fairly small family. And when something like this happens the inter-team rivalries melt away and the grief felt league-wide is sincere. RIP, Doug. My heart goes out to all who loved you and to everyone connected to the Galaxy.
Can't stop thinking of Doug, his family , Steve, his brother everyone, his friends, Ken, Doug N, I'm sick, ALWAYS treated me well, had good things to say about everyone, loved his family , loved his dogs!, great guy, my heart breaks, can't stop thinking about his smile. His picture is haunting, this can't be real, too many people need him and he needs those people. Rest in peace Doug, hold on Paige. I will NEVER forget the kindness you showed me. What a loss.
The Bet On Tuesday, much to the delight of assembled media, Doug Hamilton explained the bet between himself and Chivas president Antonio Cue for Saturday‘s game. "It’s an interesting bet," explained the GM. "Antonio Cue and I will meet for lunch next week and invite the media at the loser’s expense. The losing president will wear the other team’s jersey for the entire lunch; write a check for a thousand dollars to the other team’s foundation to bring at-risk and underprivileged children to a game. "And shockingly, the loser will dye their hair the colors of the opposing team, so Antonio Cue will be sporting a green coif at some point next week or I’ll be in a red one. It’ll be a nervous and interesting week for both of us." When asked if their wives had been consulted, Hamilton explained that he wasn’t in it for the long run. "I’m going with food coloring," he said with a smile. "So by dessert mine should be gone." No explanation was given for what would happen should the score be tied.
