Garber is doing a great job w/ the league. We already have Il Bruce to conduct on the field stuff. So I nominate Garber to be known as Il Garberino or, given that this IS soccer... just... Garberinho. I can't decide which one sounds better....
"and therefore we turned them on to Tim Leiweke, the CEO of AEG. Over a very short period of time, less than 30 days, AEG and Red Bull concluded a deal. " Less then 30 days to make this large a purchase? That is pretty amazing.
MLSnet.com: How familiar with MLS, the single entity system and the way things are done in the league are the new owners from Red Bull? Do you think it will be a challenge to integrate them into the ownership group? DG: They're obviously very familiar with it. They've made a significant investment in it, so they know. I think they believe that the system needs to evolve a bit over time and I think that all of our investors believe that. As our business grows and the opportunity grows, we need to evolve our system. We've proven that we will do that to capitalize on changing markets and growing opportunities. They're really no different from any of our other investors. They know that fiscal responsibility is a necessity today, but that breaking out of where we are and capturing the opportunity is what we all dream about for tomorrow. --Is it just me, or can I hope that that implies a significant raising of the salary cap and therefore the quality of the league in the not too distant future?
and maybe more autonomy for the teams in regards to players (ie rights, youth development, transfers)
"It's not just the purchase of the team, but also the purchase of the share of Soccer United Marketing and the investment in 50 percent of the stadium (that the club has plans to build in Hamilton, N.J.)" Am I crazy, or is Garber crazy?
has anyone seen $$$ figures? i'm very curious to know what an MLS franchise [plus stadium rights] goes for.
Get your hopes up Autogolazo. Several SSS's and a few more $50 million I/O's and we'll see the salary cap go up, up, up.
great interview... i think it's a great thing to have/see a New York in the standings again... plus, i know there is a lot of p!ssing and moaning in the forum formerly known as the metrostars, but the name, owner, branding all say UPGRADE!
Yeah, but MetroStars represent NY/NJ/CT. That was my friend, a slap in the face. What, was Jersey and CT not good enough, even though NJ is the current and future home? The majority of the fans are from NJ. The team practices in NJ. That's the problem.
Yes three cheers to Don. He helped bring in Addidas which has helped bring in a new owner. Great job Don Garber and Co and a tip of the hat to AEG, obviously.
But those kinds of things are for the fans. They are for other corporations. They are for other investors. They are for people from other countries readingtheir site. I see your point, but using New York is for all the web pages that automatically pick up the press release. A foreign company gaining a foothold in Jersey gains no headlines. A foreign company gaining a foothold in New York is news. Strictly a marketing/PR move extending beyond the fan base.
Well I am sure that Don had explained the structure and stuff very clearly the first three months AEG and RedBull were most likely working out their parternship with the stadium dollar amounts and future endeavors
That's understandable I suppose, but in doing so their fan base dropped by one today. Anyone want to speculate what this does to attendance? This can't help it I don't think.
Dude what are you talking about? This clearly means that Jesus has risen and armageddon will commence immediately.
This isn't meant to be crass, but I am curious why people care if it is New York or Jersey or whatever. Why do we care?
