You know, it's not so much in the name... It's what you do with it. I hate "NY Red Bulls", but don't think that a variation on it would be so bad. Even "New York Red Bull F.C." or " Red Bull New York F.C." wouldn't be so bad. RED BULL F.C. of NEW YORK That s/b the name.
Best would have been Red Bull New York FC. New York FC being the corporate name and Red Bull being the title sponsor. That way if Red Bull sold the team they would still be New York FC.
Someone had brought up a good suggestion with PSV (Phillips Sport Division) Eindhoven. Why not just call the team RB New York? It's got a good ring to it. (but if you're able to get red bull co. to officialize the name to Red Bull FCNY, even better).
The Website says "Red Bull New York" which isn't SO bad, though I'd prefer if they at least add "FC" to it like in the title of this post, but then I think it would also need the "of". But then the middle logo on the banner says "Red Bulls" which is just SO stupid sounding!
WTF? First someone takes my football team away, now you're trying to take my alma mater too? I'm beginning to get a persecution complex...
Just an example..but why not? They have a racing team, a soccer team, what's next? Gotta be an university.
Are you kidding me? You can't do anything with the name in the plural: Red Bulls FC? Red Bulls NYC? Red Bulls New York? They all sound pretty lame, so does "New York Red Bulls". The only way to go is: RED BULL F.C. of New York Red Bull New York F.C. Or something to that effect. Stand out from traditional (BAD) American Sports Club names
As a sports writer, I find it much easier to write about plural name. "The Red Bulls beat DC United today in their season opener." or "The Red Bull beat DC United today in their season opener."
You shouldn't be using "The" before you mention team names: "Red Bull F.C. beat D.C. United today", or "Red Bull F.C. beat United today" etc. "New York Islanders beat New York Rangers in the NHL season opener today" etc. It's a pet peeve but in the early days of the league, beat writers would refer to "DC United" as "The United" which is just ridiculous. You don't need the "The"... ever. Today was a great day for MetroStars: They were renamed RED BULL F.C. of New York
I wouldn't put it past them. Just about anything Red Bull puts its hands on (Eddie Cheever's IRL team, motorcycle GP team, Salzburg) automatically gets the corporate imprint Writ Very Large. If Bill Gates were doing this, there would be investigations by antitrust divisions in 205 nations as well as the World Court of Human Rights.
