Less than a month to go. Any idea when they'll release their respective schedules? What time last year did they release them?
If I remember correctly, FSC released its complete schedule 3-4 weeks into the 2005 season. Up to that point, they released a mini-schedule that would cover them until they were ready to release the complete schedule. I have no clue about HDNet though.
I hope HDNet is showing games this season - Is there any definitive word on that? They have NHL every Saturday night now. Hopefully they can do a 7pm MLS/10pm NHL deal or vice versa until hockey season ends.
Right. Since FSC doesn't produce their own telecasts, they piggyback on local team broadcasts, they have to wait until the teams' local schedules are done.
I assume Fox Soccer is going to be showing games on Saturday's starting between 7 and 10 Eastern. Their schedules for next month don't have any MLS time even blocked out. I am guess that is because they won't have exact times for games until they get the local broadcast schedules. With two games on disney opening weekend, I am hoping Fox can show Houstons innagural game. Is that possible with the game being on a Sunday?
And on the same note, has anyone seen anything lately about Direct Kick? This is my first year with Dish and I'm anxious to subscribe.
Last year at this time HDnet would show promos of MLS but this year I haven't seen any but promos for boxing,NHL and March Madness. From the look of it honeymoon is over.
Not to sound dumb or anything, but I have put in a little effort and still can't find anything to confirm MLS on HDNet.
April 3, 2003 - HDNet and MLS Enter 3 Year Agreement http://www.hd.net/pressrelease.html?2003-04-03-01.html There are currently no active MLS links on www.hd.net And last year's page (from a bookmark) is still there, but it's the 2005 broadcast schedule: http://www.hd.net/mlsonhdnet.html The "About MLS" page - http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/about/ mentions "welcoming HDNet and Fox Sports World" to the broadcast fold in 2003. and HDNet is still listed as an "official partner" of MLS. But there's no schedule information for HDNet. I did find this news article http://columbus.bizjournals.com/columbus/stories/2006/02/06/daily19.html "Schedules for Crew games on cable and satellite channels -- including HDNet, Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports en Espanol -- and regional telecasts will be announced in coming weeks, the team said." Sounds good, but still rather tenuous.
Damn. I'm not making stuff up. I emailed Mark Cuban. He replied they would be doing MLS again this year.
Simply owning an HDTV doesn't get you soccer in HD of course and in particular the World Cup in HD. Since most of the World Cup games will be on ESPN2 HD, make sure your video service provider carries ESPN2 HD. And make sure you have the right HD hardware (usually an HD set top box or HD DVR) from that service provider hooked up properly to your HDTV.
Yes, make sure that HD box (HD STB or HD DVR) is hooked up to the TV with at least component cables, if not DVI or HDMI. You would be surprised at how many new HDTV owners use S-video cables and think they are getting HD.
If you have Comcast you should be able to order an HD cable box from them. It's an extra $5 a month, but considering all the HD channels you get with that it's sooooooo worth it.
Comcast does not carry ESPN2 HD. It is possible that will change before the World Cup starts, however. Also, as to Dish Network, if you want ESPN2 HD I believe you need the latest HD STB or HD DVR, both of which are MPEG4 and recently became available in the last month or two. None of the earlier Dish HD equipment will pull in ESPN2 HD.
have directTV (will i get ESPN2HD) buying a HDTV this weekend...any help with what "else" i will need would be great...thanks...
DirecTV carries ESPN2 HD as well as ESPN HD. ABC HD depends on your market, but you can always try for over the air (OTA) reception which is possible using the DirecTV HD hardware. OTA reception can be tricky depending on your location. You will need a DirecTV HD box or HD DVR, with the right dish(es) pointed to the right satellite(s). I would contact DirecTV or your local satellite installation guy and explain in detail what you want (ESPN HD, ESPN 2 HD and ABC HD) and they will advise you on what you need equipment and installation wise. As stated before, an HD DVR is great because you can record the games in HD while you are at work and watch them delayed, in HD, in the evening (including fast forwarding through commercials). Also, if you are looking to get the best possible deal on new DirecTV hardware, they will likely make you sign a new annual (or two year maybe?) contract.
I saw Mark Cuban at a bar in downtown Austin two weeks ago. I would have asked him myself - but he was surrounded by a few Brrca Fan avatars. Looks down at shoes and mumbles - "I wish I was a billionaire".
Me too. I have Dish so I get ESPN2 HD ESPN HD and ABC,NBC,CBS and Fox locals in HD as well as Worldsport and HDNET. I'm pretty much set for the World cup. Now I have to wait another 1 maybe 2 maybe 10 years for the rest of the Sports networks to get with the 21st century.
