Metros fans, are you okay with Red Bull? As ownership and maybe a name change?

    Potential Kits, and adidas too.

    I voted yes...

...as long as the name isn't Red Bull.

Bottom line, I don't want to tell people I cheer for a team named "Red Bull" and then get that look like "uh...you cheer for a team named Red Bull?" Now, I say MetroStars and they nod their head like "ok".

It's impossible to tell at this point.

and really, I don't give a damn if their logo is on the unis. It'll just put us in line with every other Euro league.

However, I am not looking forward to Red Bull SC

I'm really looking forward to it. See, every time I get really excited and enthusiastic about something related to the MetroStars, it falls through and doesn't happen. So, I'm seriously celebrating (premature) this new branding, name, colors and all. By doing so, I'm sure to kill the deal.

I know at least two people who would have to have laser surgery to remove their tattoos.

All this time I was praising Phil Anschutz. Now I know how Quakes fans feel.

Are you crazy? They are naming the team after a soft drink. It's like we're a rec league.

...that happens to be loaded with caffeine (hence the "jittery" remark and the sarcastic smiley)...

    I'm on your side, bro.

Exactly. Its not like they can do much anyway with the salary cap. Its not even a good soft drink, it's awful.

Who cares if they change the name to Red Bull FC? Now since new ownership is here and Red Bull is a huge corporation DAVID BECKHAM might come to New York.

Yeah, I am definitely down with it. I think it was time for a change, and I have always hated the name Metrostars. Atleast Red Bull is a company that actually advertises and maybe then they will advertise with us and actually get some exposure to our team. And also maybe we can get rid of the incredibly gay white away jerseys. Those things are so stupid, I would love to see the end of them.

And as far as red bull, I love that crap, I am drinking one of them right now.

Dude, no one side there where going to name the team "Red Bull" only that they would rename the team. MLS does not even allow shirt sponsor so i highly doubt they will allow a team to be named after a soft drink. I'm not saying they may not pick something related to there product, but not that direct. Beside I'm sure any new owner would pick a new name for the team "Metrostars" is just a embracing name for the league. (not to offend anyone who likes it)

I'm ok with it until they give me a reason not to be.

New ownership is a good thing.

Me too....You know why?, Because we can have four of the best players in the world, and Red Bull will pay them in Austria or wherever they from, outside the MLS salary cap rules.

I don't think Becks would solve any problem that the Metrostars or MLS,for the matter, have.

they sell it in almost every gas station and every bar. I mean I was in England for a while in the fall and you could get the classic vodka and red bull even over there. We were speculating about this over in Crew forum as well. Red Bull SC would be a pretty dumb name. But, what about the New York Red Bulls. Has kind of a stock market ring to it and at the new stadium would be interesting to see if they run, "it gives you wings" commericials on the big screen. Love those commercials, especially the one where the mother-in-law is being run over by a train, warms my heart.

I think it's good for the league. And, well a metrostar can be only sponsored by Gotti hair gel or something else uniquely metro. Bulls scare me, Metrostars dont.

and actually they would throw quite a bit of money in the team. That's what they did in formula one and salzburg. They don't want a unsuccessful team wearing there jersey and every sponsor wants to be associated with a winner.

maybe it's time for shirt sponsorship in this league. Never made sense to me not to have it. This is a business and you can't say hey it's unclassy to be named Red Bull but alright to have your stadium named Pizza Hut Park which in retrospect sounds alot lamer. Each team can make good money off of it and let's say Crew or Fire or any other team with a name could just have a badge representing that name and then underneath a sponsor. Looks professional to me actually and if it means you can buy a couple more good players? upgrade stadium? why not?

I think those jerseys impress me alot more then the current New York jerseys.
Even, New York FC with the red bull logo underneath.

Whats this have to do with what I said about them not being able to do much with the salary cap and the drink tasting like crap?

As opposed to possibly naming a team after a kids movie like the the Mighty Ducks.

To me the most likely name would be the New Jersey Bulls or the New Jersey Red Bulls. Or maybe the MetroBulls ;)
