http://www.nashvillecitypaper.com/index.cfm?section_id=9&screen=news&news_id=48038 I would love to provide any help I can to people that want to come to Nashville for this game.
The Coliseum - natural grass - not sure of the exact dimensions but at the Galaxy-Tecos game in 2004 it looked and played wide open http://www.titansonline.com/stadium/stadium_overview/
EDIT: Link working now. Interesting location. ======== Can you check that link, Im not getting anything. Tx-dog
Last night on "American Soccer" they said a match with Egypt was in the works.. Perhaps that is who TBD is?
Just a rumor, though. So far Nashville, Cleveland, Columbus, Foxboro, Chicago, and Pasadena have all been rumored for pre-WC games, only 3 of them will get them (Pasadena probably being out) so not all the rumors will come thru.
I'm banking on Don MacLachlan's words. I just booked a flight and room. Fly into BNA Tuesday afternoon and fly out early Wednesday morning.
Yeah, if the Titans assistant GM or whatever it was is publically confirming it then it's probably a pretty safe bet. The Cleveland stuff sounded pretty official too, and I can't imagine they won't play a game in Foxboro. So it looks like those will be the 3 venues for our send-off games. Incidentally, I love the first line in the initial article. I'll let you folks click on it and read it yourselves, but it's great for the "We'll just be happy to get to the round of 16" crowd.
Apparently the Moroccan newspaper today or yesterday reported that they'll be playing us in Nashville.
Actually, the past few times I have been to Nashville, I seem to always end up with an Iranian cabbie (being serious here), so perhaps there is a Morroccan community there.
Nashville has a pretty sizeable Kurdish population, but I don't recall there being much in the way of a Moroccan presence there.
I guess either move to Wednesday, or the Moroccan paper could have listed it (by error) in local time (per TV)? Technically, the match probably will be May 24 in Morocco (who is 4 hours ahead of East Coast in summer), assuming it starts after 8pm Eastern time.
Yes, a sizable Kurdish and/or Iraqi population. Nashville was one of 5 polling places in the US for Iraqis to vote in the first election that they had.
Just a little bump.... Not a bad site (hotel listing, maps) for planning a trip to Nashiville: http://www.nashvillecvb.com/Visitors/ The Coliseum is across the Cumberland River from downtown. You could fly into Nashville and get a shuttle/taxi to your downtown hotel and never need a car. Walk to everything - the honkytonks, other nightlife, food, The Country Music Hall of Fame (interesting regardless of whether you are a fan or not), walk across the pedestrian bridge to the game and back - and then get a shuttle/taxi back to the airport when you leave.
When I lived in Chattanooga, I was in Nashville two or three time a month on gov't business. Nashville's a nice city to visit. Some of the places on Broadway are sort of hokey though. BTW, the Holiday Inn Express on Broadway is probably the best deal downtown. Since I've already booked a flight with Northwest, they'd better be sticking to the May 23rd date or I'm screwed. And the pilots had better not strike either.
This is a pretty easy trip to do without renting a car, if you get a downtown room. The coliseum is just across the river via a pedestrian bridge. And to qualify the last poster's knock on downtown: Market Street/2nd Ave is strictly crap for the dipsht tourist trade, but the real honkytonks on lower Broad (Roberts Western Wear, Tootsies Orchid Lounge) are as great as ever, and Printers Alley is still the backbeating heart of Nashvegas.
Sucks to that. I hang out in Vandyland, where all the beautiful college girls are at, which is down the way on West End and Elliston Place. Bars in Hillsboro Village are a bit more upscale than the tourist trap crap on Broadway. BTW--This area is where the LA Galaxy and the UAG Tecos stayed during their friendly back in 2004. In fact, after the game, my wife and I were eating at the Wendy's across the street from the PF Chang's (Just off Campus) when Alejandro Moreno and Hong-Myung Bo walked in. We got their autographs and they ordered blizzards. Moreno was very friendly but Myung was polite and tired. (He had to mark Turcios all night so I understood) So, considering this is where the Galaxy stayed, I would probably try and stay in Vandyland too. Maybe the US National Team will have a scrimmage on Vanderbilt's soccer field during the day. I'll keep my eyes peeled and post more information as I see it. As soon as I know the US hotel, I'll be all over it.
Im not sure which USMNT jersey to buy. The white one is ugly and too plain. The navy blue one is pretty nice, but it would suck to wear it on a hot muggy May day in Nashville.
