    Strange...a week ago, May 23, 26, & 28 were all there. I wonder if this means that other games are going to be on ABC? At least for the May 26th game, if it's a marquee opponent, I could see ABC picking up the game as a "World Cup Preview".

    I could see that for the weekend game. I could also see final negotiations about the stadiums and game times just moving things around and pulling them off the schedule for a bit. I mean, it's about three months away. They don't even have anything past June up yet so I'm not stressed about May.

    This still should be referring to the 7PM kick-off time on May 23 in Nashville. At that point, it will just be past midnight and therefore May 24th in Morocco.

    When will US Soccer get around to (be able to) officially announce the locations and opponents for the late May matches? All of them appear to have a 7PM Eastern kickoff time:

    05-23-2006 07:00 pm 09:00 pm US Soccer - Road To Germany

    Well, this is intense. Just posted today: According to the FIFA website we'll be facing Jamaica April 11th AND April 12th. Do we have that many MLSers to try out or is the date getting gradually changed from one to both to one?

    Just past half way down...South Africa as one of the three opponents.

    On the FIFA site South Africa plays the Saudis in Germany on 5/16 and then against Swaziland in Botswana on 5/20....that is alot of time in airplanes to then come to the US and play.

    Anyone want to bet on Morocco, Turkey and South Africa in Nashville, Cleveland, and Hartford?

    FIFA site has Cary game on 4/11 alone.

  12. Please not South Africa. How about a team that didn't go three and out in CAF after missing the World Cup.

    Latvia is not exactly Holland, who was our last opponent before Korea/Japan 2002!!

    Think we could've done better, in terms of opposition!!

    As far as South Africa goes, I agree with California Jack. We SHOULD have gotten Senegal, Cameroon or Nigeria!! Hell, even, Egypt would be better!!

    Have to say that I'm not thrilled with the opponents being talked about by US soccer for the upcoming friendlies, outside of Germany. I know nothing has been confirmed but IMHO our opponents for 2002 farewell (Uruguay, Jamaica & Holland) were VERY solid & prepared us well for K/J '02!!

    That's not to say that I think we'll "crash & burn" in Germany. In fact, quite the opposite!! I like our chances to advance. But I wish US soccer has done a better job in terms of opposition!!

    VERY true. Perhaps, I jumped the gun on blaming USSF for the scheduling "mishaps"

    Okay, I get it

    Jamaica = Ghana
    Romania= Italy
    Latvia = Czech Republic

    This is almost as good as:

    Austria = Germany
    Kuwait = Iran
    Macedonia = Yugoslavia

    you can't always get what you want but if you try sometimes you get what you need. I hope this is the case. NEWSFLASH: some teams might not want to play us in the US, they may have said no. don't jump down the throats of USSF just yet. They might have tried and teams were busy.

    Dare I ask, why Cleveland?

    What exactly is wrong with Columbus and its soccer-specific stadium... You know, the one where we pound Mexican tail every 4 years? I think it just makes more sense to have a send-off where people care...

    It really is no offense to Cleveland, but this just doesn't make sense. No current team, a blue-collar football (American-style) town, and an 80,000 seat stadium that will sit 7/8 empty doesn't really enthrall me.

    Was there a link that posted Cleveland as a main possibility. I haven't seen anything in the Cleveland papers about it either...

    Plus I bet there's some thought to getting a feel for whether or not Cleveland is a player for an MLS franchise. I'd imagine we'd draw about 30K at Clowns Stadium. BTW, that's about 45% capacity I think.

    I don't think Jamaica enters into the equation. I think that's just a random CONCACAF team USSF could get to play a friendly on an off date.

    I think it's:

    Morocco = Ghana
    ???? = Italy
    Latvia = Czech Republic

    Though, I don't think all African teams play alike, and Latvia (despite qualifying for the last Euro) is like Czech Lite.

    USSF also had the 02 KJ friendlies setup earlier. I realize that the friendlies were about 10 days earlier (May 12 - 19, as oppossed to May 23 to 28); but the announcement in 2002 was made on February 12.

    This is not suggest that USSF is not as 'on the ball' as they were then, but maybe they're having a more difficult time?
