I agree with you, see most of the new generation of fans who were born in the 80s really didn`t watch a lot about Pele`s genuis. Now after you watch this DVD and get other documentaries and videos about the great Brazilian sides and Pele`s life you would agree as you have that no player ever was as complete as Pele was. He was just God sent the way i see it.
"Whoever saw him,saw him, whoever didn't will never see anything like him again." I am one of those who, sad to say, did not get to see the man play in person. I once had a talk with an older guy, former player, who was working at some stadium during the NASL days. Pele was playing that day, exhibition or something, and this guy spent the whole time just watching the master. So I asked him 'what was it like seeing Pele play in person up-close' and he said something to the same as above, you had to 'see it to believe it'. What was interesting as we discussed his play was not just the show-boating stuff Pele could do (there was a lot of it), all the amazing techniques for scoring goals, impossible passes and taking one several opponents and beating them with ease, but, this was cool I thought, everything (!)he did was just "different and better", simple stuff like trapping a ball or a short pass became exceptional. I guess that defines a genius, that Pele did everything "better", which is impossible to describe, 'cus then others could try and imitate. But when you saw him in person and the way he did everything one realized this was a once-time thing, a freak (in a good way) of nature, God given ability that while not necessarily easy to define is extremely easy to appreciate. Cheers.
I believe that Bergkamp's clip compilation would be as exciting to watch as Pele eterno. This also includes Maradona, Ronaldo, Baggio, Ronaldinho etc... The decision to rate players can be accurately made only if I've watched some of their full-match tapes.
A curious thing about Pelé is the way that a radio narrator refered to Pelé every time he touched the ball: "Him". It´s funny to listen to something like: "...ball to Rivellino, then to Jairzinho, who pass to 'Him', who try to get a clean view to shot!" Fiogi Giglioti is the narrator and I´m almost sure he is also in the documentary. Sorry my poor english.
Any info on when the English version will be released yet? I've watched a DVD I can't understand more times than I can recount...would be nice to know what the people are saying thoughout the DVD, I think
I remember they showed it at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival and also last december in the Draw they had a press showing thingie. Next May/June would be a good timing for the international DVD release right?
Anyone would like to help me to translate it all for the non portuguese speakers? I have the subtitles in portuguese which contains around 1700 lines of text, from which I have translated 360 lines already, but since I'm short on free time it will take me too long to do it all by myself If we can gather say 5 portuguese speakers we may split the translation work equally among everyone Anyone interested please PM me
OK, this is one of the cooler sports related comments I've seen; I'm sure it would be spelled with a capital "H" A curious thing about Pelé is the way that a radio narrator refered to Pelé every time he touched the ball: "Him". It´s funny to listen to something like: "...ball to Rivellino, then to Jairzinho, who pass to 'Him', who try to get a clean view to shot!"
Recently I was able to get a hold of the film, and watch almost all of it. Here are some initial thoughts, from a message I wrote to a friend:
I watched the movie nearly a month ago and my brain still hasn't processed wot it saw!...I'll need to see it again before commenting which will take a while. I thank the producers for putting it together but am appalled that it took so long...
Wow strong bump I'm sure at this time you can find a torrent with subtitles or a subtitles file that works with VLC player.
I don't do Bittorrent anymore, just don't like illegal downloads... I was hoping by now the producers would have been selling an official English subbed version. Guess not.
in that case, get the torrent. Its not your fault. IF they release an english version, then you buy it.
from the info of a Pele Forever torrent at Pirate Bay http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6007767 "Full DVD copy with English, Spanish, Italian, German, Greek and Hebrew subtitles:" ok, if its a full DVD copy with all those subtitles, doesnt that mean the DVD was released, internationally, with those subtitles?
