I figured as much... ditto here. They're gonna have to make a good sarcastic smiley one of these days, or people like us are going to be misunderstood on the net forever.

I agree with you Andy. It'll be nice if we get a sellout out of this on a Tuesday night.

As for extra seats, it's been done before for the College Cup but I just don't see it happening. I'll ask Chris about it on thursday when I meet with him.

shame that England would not cancel a week of EPL to play us in a friendly, eh?

Birmingham still have a shot of getting a pre-WC friendly at all?

Us Atlantans never get any USMNT love. :(

Im going to say this game will be a sellout, regardless of the Hurricanes game. Factor in the soccer crazy communities in Raleigh, add in the latino based community in Raleigh that will attend. Throw on top of that the CASL organizations contribution of players/parents attending the game.

Now throw in the surrounding cities like Greensboro. I know alot of people will make the trip from Gboro for this game. It happened during the DC United game also.

Im calling a sell out, and at SAS that is a great atmosphere. It will be fun to attend, and you know I will be there!

Anybody has any questions about night life here in Raleigh just PM me...

They did it for the first Women's College Cup. They did not add seats for the second Women's College Cup, nor the Men's College Cup.

Exactly why is the local Latino population going to show up in large numbers?

If this had been Honduras, the game would've been a hard sellout.

Simply because their culture has a passion for good futbol. No matter who is playing.....they showed up for the DC United game. I saw Nexaca and Chivas Jersey's in the crowd while I was there.

I think they appreciate a good game of futbol.....thats the main reason. Yes, DC United does have a small central american, south american connection in Gomez, Moreno, Erpen, Flumino......but I do not think those guys were the reason that game drew those numbers.

*Note Flumino was not with the team during the SAS - DC United v Rochester Scrimmage

I play against, and with most of the soccer serious contingent for soccer here in the Raleigh area, and if I were to tell them about this game I would say 3 out of 4 would want to attend.

Alot will depend on promotion of the event in the area....

Some of them showed up to see Freddy Adu.

If Freddy Adu plays vs Jamaica, maybe they'll come back.

Otherwise, I doubt you'll get more than a token number.

The game might be a sellout, but I just don't see tickets being scalped above face value, either.

If the opponent had been Honduras, it would be a hard ticket.

I do think the Canes/Devils game will have an impact on the soccer game. A big negative one.

And frankly, I have a very, very difficult choice to make as a photographer. SAS Stadium is poorly lit, the U.S. will likely have no more than a few World Cup players, and Jamaica won't have anybody of note. The RBC Center is very well lit, and both teams will be jockeying for home ice in the Stanley Cup playoffs. I'm also guessing that the hockey game will be more entertaining.

As a fan, I'd love to be able to see both.

I'm really curious as to why this game couldn't have been played on Wednesday.

Definitely. I'll make the hour's drive from GSO for this match.

But we need one more east coast friendly that I can fly to. Northwest owes me a ticket that I need to use before July.

This depends on whom they bring. Their UK based players are true professionals. The locals however can be pretty brutal, if they so desire.

And, of coruse, there'd unlikely be anyone off the UK on this squad.

    Sorry.

Why haven't they posted it on their own website? (Edit: Apparently they have, but I don't see anything on the front page?)

I was just confirming what had already been posted.

    Sorry.

It will be a ridiculous sellout. The place was overflowing for a crap DC-USL preseason match. Yeah, I know freddy was there, but they'll still come for this, believe me.

    Based on what evidence?

The 150 or so that watched the Galaxy play the Wizards a couple of years back?

Face it. 7500 of the 8000+ were there to see Freddy Adu.

I hope you're right. I expect at least 5,000. Anything more will depend on 1) if the game is actually marketed and 2) if Freddy Adu is on the roster.

Even if it is on a Tuesday, I would hope RDU, a top 30 market (with G/W-S, a top 40 market just down the road) could draw more than 5,000 to a National Team game. Regardless of how well the 'Canes are playing.

I'd like to think the same thing of San Diego for a weekend game with no competing sports events.

But let's face facts. It's a school night in April (who knows whether it'll be 70 degrees or 35 degrees), traffic in that area is horrific, and the 18,000 people will be heading into the area for the Canes game.

I'm not saying the game -won't- sell out. I'm just saying that it's definitely not guaranteed.

I'm very happy that a USMNT team game has finally come to Raleigh-Durham. But let's face the facts that this is an opponent that won't provide any fans, and the U.S. players won't be a big draw - unless Freddy is on the roster - either.

The saving grace, and what will probably help the game sell out is that the local media will probably pick up on this game and pimp it for free because of the May national team camp.

I agree! I remember watching the last qualifier and they knew they lost and we had won and I made a mental note they just played quality soccer, no hard bad tackles. Now Guatamala or Mexico would have started huntin' them some 'mericans.

I don't see the Canes having much overlap w the footy types. There might be some avoidance of the match due to traffic, but my impression of the typical Canes fan is that they arent gonna be running to Cary to watch soccer. And yes, the traffic, particularly closer to the stadium WILL SUCK! I missed the entire first half of the DC preseason match sitting in traffic a mile away from the stadium.

I think there's a huge overlap between the two. Educated, uppercrust suburbanites with soccer playing kids.

That pretty much defines the demographic for both Canes fans and a main ticket buying demographic for the USMNT.

Anecdotally speaking, I've attended about half a dozen Canes home games this season. While I didn't plan to attend the Devils game (I usually only attend weekend games), I can see the dilemma some would have in choosing which game to attend considering the possible importance of the hockey game.

I don't know about the "revenge" part but otherwise totally agree. We should send team USA hockey to this match.
