Reading about Olsen's goal v Guatemala, I was reminded of a shot he hit several years ago.

I have it going off the left post in 2000? vs Columbus?. He was definitely playing left mid and was probably 35 yards out next to the touchline. He scorched it and had the keeper beat.

Does anyone else remember this? Have I got it right?

Are you talking about the absolutely wicked bender he hit from 35 yards or so from the left side of the field? It was at Dallas.

    Yes, I remember it well.

(If you get that reference, then like me, you're too damn old.)

I enjoyed Olsen's plays during the game. The goal was just wonderful, he saw the keeper out and crashed it. Not only did he make a goal he was all over the Guatemalan team on the field. I hope he makes the US Team..

No, this was at RFK. And there wasn't an inch of bend -- it was a laser. It was during the run of play and I believe it was v Columbus. It wasn't a goal -- it hit the left post.

    I remember that one.

BAM! that sucker rang the left post and it was LOUD on my TV. He absolutely murdered that ball. The score vs Guatemala was the epitome of finesse in comparison.

I think it was Quaranta who hit that bomb against Dallas?

Yeah it was, and I'm the idiot who thought the first post was referencing that. No wonder Serie Zed had no idea what I was trying to say.

The game you might be thinking of is the 2-1 win over San Jose in 03'.

Ben Olsen took a shot from about 25/30 yards that somehow got past Pat Onstad.

It was obviously the game winner (as Jamil Walker of all people had equalised only a minute earlier) and to be quite honest, it was a very soft goal allowed by Onstad. Should have been a routine save or parry at the least.

I can't believe the thread has gotten this far and no one has said that Benny "knocked the snot out of the ball".

    Which he did. Beautiful strike.
