Maybe the guy we drafted has a chance or we can trade for a quality guy like Johnny Walker?

poor, poor Ed-D. you will be so disappointed come april.

just to entertain the idiocy of the question, who would you like to start in goal? Howard?

Shep Messing. He can wear a special mike headset and call the game from the field.

Tony Meola will be the Gordie Howe of soccer and play until he's 50.

I'd prefer him over Meola at this point, yes. If it were 1996 instead of 2006 things might be a bit different.

To be honest, I've always felt that the teams that need really strong goalies are the ones that suck. I'd much prefer if it really didn't matter whether it was Meola or Conway in goal for us.

    My preference is Meola, though.

"preference"? I think you should more than prefer Meola. You should pray that he doesn't get injured, because if he does...our season is over as Conway blows.

That's why we got rid of Wells and Walker, we are alwyas aware of injury situations, especially to older guys like tony.

Conway isnt bad at all. He is no Meola, but then again he is better than Wells will ever be.

Every team needs a strong goalie. If you're depending on a 40 year old you're asking for trouble. I don't care how good your defense is.

I don't see how anybody can take this team seriously with Meola back there. Even in MLS...

Dino Zoff captained Italy to their 3rd World Cup championship in 1982 -- age 40. Call Dino the exception that proves the rule, but Tony's not 40 and MLS is not the World Cup.

uh yeah, and the Metros' defense is not exactly comparable to the 1982 Italian national team's...also Zoff was a bit trimmer then than Meola is now...

Kasey Keller? Oliver Kahn?....it seems keepers seem to peak in their 30's

Tony's body type is not Zoff's; he is trim for his type. The guy is in shape, and if he's as good as last year's Chivas match, keeping them off the board, we defintely have a keeper -- along with a dependable backup to take over if Tony goes down injured.

NO way. Conway is garbage. He was horrendous with SJ in all those years there...and will hamstring us for the rest of the season if Meola is injured.

Unless Wells cursed off Lalas and Mo, there was no reason to let him go. He wasn't the savior of American soccer, but at least he was light years ahead of Conway.
