All i can say is that most countrys must envy the US strength in the GK department. MH has been nothing short of awesome with us, and the fact that he still can't get the number one spot tells the whole story.
Yeah-- do you think we could engineer a trade with someone? Timmy or Marcus for an outstanding Right Mid.
Hmmmm, So Marcus drinks a Red Bull before each game. And he and Kasey Keller are Xbox fans - lol.... fun stuff.
If not for Friedel's retirement for Nats duty, Marcus and Tim Howard would be battling it out for the #3 spot. And IMO, Friedel would not have retired if not for Kasey. I don't think he'd leave the Nats in the lurch.
Is it me or has Marcus been getting his fair share of press lately? First, with the 442 article, a nice write up on Reading's site, the SKY interview, the NY Times, and numerous mentions throught SKY's Sports show. He deserves every bit of press he gets and its gotta be a confidence booster for him. He brings a smile to everyones face with his amazing attitude. Not to mention his play over the last 2-3 years has been lights out.
And he's a character. The gun thing, the climbing into the stands thing to get up to a supporter to give them a shirt, the fixing the team bus and now bringing along his own tool box thing. I think people want to start writing about Reading right now because of the success, and Marcus makes it easy to find a fun story.
Didn't he also used to park in the managers parking spot or the owners or something? The whole gun issue is probably better for him because he's an American (we're all cowboys right?) Marcus is a feel good guy. One of those guys that makes a team fun to follow. If I'm not mistaken, his nickname at Reading is simpy - USA. From everything I've read, he absolutely loves it at Reading. If I could pick a player to have dinner with from the USA squad - he'd be close to or at the top of my list.
Was in the article in last month's 442 in which he discussed his hobby of auto repair. Teaser here. Short version: one day the team bus broke down, the driver was unable to fix it, Marcus elected to take a stab at it, but didn't have the right set of tools to do it, and henceforth he decided he'd bring his own tools on road trips for just such an emergency.
Basic gist (from memory so feel free to correct or slam me if I'm wrong)... The team bus broke down one day. The team calls for help but Marcus climbs out of the bus and says he will fix it. However Marcus is let down when he sees that the tools carried on the bus are totally inadequate to do the job and makes some comment that he could fix it if he only had his own tools and started to bring some on road trips .... just in case.
Keller is an amazing goalkeeper. He was liked but not loved in England I think. In the USA he is consider a phenomenal keeper. He is now in Germany and is already rated better than Kahn by the German press. That said, Hahneman is damn good and it would be no crime to see him playing for the USA.Wish he would not kick as many balls to the other keeper thoough.
I can't speak for Millwall or Tot-ting-ham but at Leicester he was certainly loved. Especially for the save just after we scored in the League Cup final replay against Boro.
Come on, give keller some credit. There are much more highly rated keepers in germany that he's considered better than....In the ratings this year, what is Kahn, 13th, 14th? Keller is 1st or 2nd.
The article mentioned Eddie Johnson as MLS' highest paid player, though I thought it was Landon Donovan. Anyone know the specifics?
