This is the question : How can one player score 3 goals in a row without any other player touching the ball during the entire process ?

The opposing team starts with the ball he steals and scores 3 consecutive goals...Otherwise It's not possible, I think....

No , that does not apply to what the puzzle is asking.

The game is between Team A and Team B. Team B kicks off to start the match.

    1. Late in the first half, a player for Team A scores an own goal.
    2. The same player, being on the team that gave up a goal, takes the ensuing kickoff and scores a goal directly from the center spot. Immediately after the goal, the referee whistles the end of the first half.
    3. Team A has the second half kickoff. The same player scores again on the kickoff.

Three goals by the same player with no one else making a touch. You didn't say he has to score all three for the same team.

I'll say he scored against his own team three times.

That would take two players at least.

I persoanlly feel that scoring 3 goals against an opponent, in a row without anyone else touching the ball is not possible. Noah Elliott offers a good explaination of how this could happen if you were scoring goals against yourself.

And just to have some dubious answer thrown in here...

Player A scores a goal against the opponents. The referee mistakenly allows player A to take the kick-off and team B who doesn't realize it, fails to complain. Player A scores directly from the kick-off. Halftime. Player A takes the kick-off to restart the game after half and launches it the keeper attempting to do his best Roy Carrol impression gets under the ball, but instead completely misjudges it and allows the ball in over his head. Goal #3.

The referee this game was pretty bad.

    Besides, it's a theoretical question. :p

I take it you're in agreement . I came up w/ that same answer when I first saw that puzzle, but wasn't 100% sure that my answer was right because of the often mentioned 2 player touch at kick-off. Unless there is dissent the winner has been found.

The 2 player touch is if the first touch doesn't go into touch or in the goal! :D

One player can't play the ball a second time unless someone else plays it - except as noted in the puzzle! :)

And to add to that: the first touch has to be forward into the opposing team's half field.

I'll bet his teammates off his back from scoring the own goal. Whoever thought this one up has too much time on their hands.

GOAL ONE Late in a playoff match where a winner must be determined, player scores the tying goal. Time expires with the goal.

GOAL TWO The rules of the competition call for golden Goal. Player's captain wins the coin toss and player scores a goal directly off the kick.

GOAL THREE By winning the previous match, the team has tied the playoff and forced a 'mini game' per the rules of the competition. Player's captain wins the coin toss and player scores a goal directly off the kick.

Three goals scored by one player against an opponent with nobody else playing the ball!!!

Well I guess I had assumed that it meant in the same game. I don't believe a mini-game and the rest of the game count the same.

But here is another impossibily possible answer:

    Windy day:

Player A scores a goal on the stroke of half time. (against wind)

Player A takes the kick off (with wind) just tapping the ball into play. The ball now just slowly being blown down the field is not being challeged by any of the opponents, for 45 minutes:eek: . Just prior to full time the ball enters the goal, and the referee calls time. The match, now tied (from the other team scoring two goals previously in the match) the game must now go into Extra time.

Player A's team loses the toss and kicks off. Player A blasts it into the goal. Goal #3.

1)A player scores an own goal.

2)From the subsequent kick-off, the same player kicks the ball forward, but it is caught by the wind and blown back into the team's own goal.

    3)Repeat step 2)
