Last I read on the 23rd or so is that Borgetti was ready to put in his time and earn his starting spot at the reebok, but now I read this...

    urgh!

Bolton may not understand what they are losing here, because he wasn't given a chance. I typically like big sam, but this seems like a bad, bad mistake.

Yeah I watched today's match and was a bit disapointed by not seeing 'ol Borg playing, but what a great and involving match vs 'Pool. That alone more
than made up for it. :)

Actually, thats why I am here on this thread - to talk **** about those intentional pool fouls on Nolan and Diouf.

Gerrard and Sissoko should have both been sent off. What a bunch of crap.

Well that happens NO PLAY=GO HOME......dude i really wish that SAM would have given him a chance in the EPL really i truly think he would have succeeded, done good for the team. I also think that if the WC was not in 6 months he would stay but it is and he NEEDS to play and play alot score goals like he does and be ready to go out there and do his thing with Mexico. I dont think he is going to allow Bolton to get in his way of that. If they want to lose him than so be it the are making a mistake and they will know when he returns to mexico and once again be the top scorer of the season like he has done before and goes to the world cup and SHOWS sam that he can handle the big boys like he did in CONFEDERATIONS. Isnt that what caught sams eye his ability to score against big guys like the Brazilians and Germans? doesnt make any sense to me....so as of now im glad he is returning home maybe in mexico they will appreciate what they have I know Chivas will so whatever Boltons lose.

I understand your disappointment, however I have seen enough of Borghetti that has convinced me he would not be sucessful in Bolton's playing scheme over the long term.Sure he may score goals sometimes, but I think the Prem game is too physically demanding for him.As far as being the top scorer in the Mexican league...its no comparison to the Prem.

True he would not have been a STAR or anything lke that but he would have done some good score some goals had a little glory (good enough for an old guy to be happy) then gone home knowing he was the first MEXICAN player to do anything in the EPL. Im not dissapointed for me I never really wanted him to leave (no gol TV couldnt watch his games anyways :p ) but I am dissapointed for him and his family. He started to learn English his kids were going to school in England and he was doing all this to have a shot in BOLTON and the shot is not ever coming. See it would have beem fine if he got a chance in EPL played and COULDNT do it like you said "physically demanding" than said ok im too old for this lets go home. That would have been fine everybody would understand but how he got screwed pissses a lot of people off including myself. True MFL not very close to EPL but the mexican league is not as bad as you think being one of the best leagues out of Europe. But if he returns home scores 30 goals in MFL goes to WC scores on the big boys I think it will sound like this **slap** on SAMS face :D but its all good he is gonna get $$$$$$ from chivas so we are all happy. DAMN KINDA LONG SORRY.

There are several reasons why it hasn't worked out for Borgetti.

Firstly he's 31/32 so he doesn't have much longer left in his career. This leads us to point two; it's a World Cup year. He really needs to be playing to be at his best so these two coupled together lead to a certain amount of impatience on his part and I really can't blame him. Thirdly we're been quite successful this season so there's been no need to change a winning forumla, that's limited his opportunities.

If he was in his mid 20s and it wasn't a WC year then I imagine he'd stay and fight for his place. The problem is that at his age he isn't going to get better, he's going to get worse. If he's not up to the level of the Prem now he never will be, sadly I think he could have but he should have moved earlier in his career.

World Cup & age aside, I am interested in hearing why you think Borgetti wouldn't work in Bolton's scheme.

We play 1 up front. When Borgetti has played in that role he's been unable to hold the ball up as well as Kevin Davies add to that he's not as strong as Davies, he doesn't win as many headers as Davies and he doesn't have the determination, fitness or commitment of Davies. He's a good finisher though, sadly as the lone striker he's not going to get that many chances.

The guy has been getting worse for the past 4 years. He was riding the bench at Pachuca at the end of Apertura 2005, he was also whinning and complaining. He wasnt called for the Confederations Cup and was only brought in last minute. He has a good Confed Cup, (where Pardo assisted all 3 of his goals) with beautiful passes.

Its hard to believe that Bolton was so ignorant in getting him without proper scouting. When on the other hand there are players like Salcido, who played almost 60 games in 2005 and is just as good as Rafa Marquez.

Yeah thats true but he was on the bench with Pachuca for a lot of other reasons than his football that were kinda childish in both parts but whatever kinda seems like thats happening right now so....?..................Borgetti has always been a good player but I would have taken like 3-4 other players over him to go to europe for example how you said salcido, what about pavel pardo well Marquez already in Barca and even some younger guys that have a future. But Bolton did make a stupid mistake...NO SCOUTING???? on an old guy??? seems retarded to me. If hewas young than maybe it could pass (they could mold him to their style) but not with BORG that was a dumb move waste of money on Boltons side and waste of practice for the WC on Borgs side.

I agree that hes not as strong, but as for headers, determination and fitness, I think you might be either overestimating Davies or underestimating Borgetti.

I do think that Borgetti is a better finisher than Davies. And since neither Davies or Borgetti is the kind of striker that creates chances for themselves (the playmaking is left to JayJay, Diouf and Stelios), the goal tally at the reebok might be higher if Borgetti was running up front for you.

One thing that Bolton do have this year is chemistry. Perhaps Borgetti would ruin that chemistry if he took Davies' spot. Who knows.

It wsa a good finish, but it seems that's all Borgetti does: finish. There's nothing else to his game.

This is true, but one could argue that's what a striker's role is.

Obviously Borgetti doesn't fit in the 4-5-1, but when he's up top in a 4-4-2 with Vaz Te, it seems to be the better fit.

Borgetti is a good player that needs a chance to play he has proven he can score goals now he needs time to prove if he can do other things with Bolton.

Question? To all Bolton Wanderers fans do you believe that "The Borg" has recieved a fair chance within your team? Do you feel he has performed well or poorly in his brief stint with the club? Does he deserve more PT? Finally, do you believe that he was a good addition to the team or was he poor acquisition?

Sorry, one more. What is the current feeling of your fan base toward Borgetti?

A good addition to the squad.
I think the main problem for him (and Vaz Te) is that Sam had found a winning formula in the Premiership and is very reluctant to change that, both have been given their chances in the Carling Cup and UEFA Cup and with us losing a few players to the Africa Cup of Nations they're gonna now get their chance to shine in the Prem, lets just hope they do.
