wow... i'm not too sure about a couple of the MLS items, but i think he actually will have managed to misfire on every other prediction

beasley "the breakout player"? oy vey

and brazil might have a WC-dominating lineup if they ever played the right defenders... which they won't

as is, they are highly susceptible to being beaten and for my money not any shoo-in to win it all

I haven't figured out if he's drunk/high when he writes these, or if it's just his natural stupidity shining through.

The "sterile draw" between Italy and Czech Republic won't happen.

Nobody is going to willingly pack it in, take 2nd in the group and get rewarded with facing Brazil in the Round of 16 when they could have Croatia or Australia. It just won't happen.

"New U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati will shake up the American game dramatically by separating the too-powerful youth soccer factions from the nationals teams and pro-development divisions. In the process, people will find out just how weak the American youth teams currently are..."

once the public really finds out how weak the american youth teams really are they'll be civil unrest, rioting, looting and all the governors will declair marshall law.......thats my prediction

UFO's will land and the aliens will act shocked that the NASL has folded

    Mcdonalds will start serving pizza

the goal will contain a smaller goal inside of it (3x3 in size) thats worth 2 goals

these are my predictions for 2006

What decision would that be, exactly? They can't sell him until he turns 18 which will not be until 2007 after the conclusion of the European 06-07 season. Where is the big-money offer going to come from in 2006, the USL? Indoor Soccer?

I atch myself reading his columns just to see what stupid thing he's gonna say next. If you think that ESPN dropped Marc Connoly because he wasn't controversial enough, maybe they should hire Trecker. He's certainly controversial even though all he spews is not well thought out crap.

everyone here thinks they are more knowledgeable then any of our soccer writers,

the guy did say Bald predictions, and we know the european teams tend to play for one another at the expense of others

Bald = Fearless and daring; courageous.
Requiring or exhibiting courage and bravery.

clearly none of you have this traits or cant stand it if others have them

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Brazil qualify second in its group. Brazil often starts slowly. It's focused on the knockout rounds, not on going 3-0-0 in pool play.

If so, then the gamemanship in Group E could prove interesting.

Here are games scheduled for 6/22/06 -

    CZE:ITA
    16:00
    GHA:USA
    16:00
    JPN:BRA
    21:00
    CRO:AUS
    21:00

it should be noted that the 3rd games of group F occur after the conclusion of the group E matches. it will be difficult for any group E team to know if Brazil will actually finish as the runner-up in it's group. not saying the math couldn't work out that way, but heading into the last pair of group E matches it will be difficult to know for certain the round of 16 opponents with a set of group F matches occuring after group E wraps up.

In a first, Trecker may have got one thing right...

It's entirely possible that the US shows up, plays very well and still goes home after three games -- leading Arena to combust when the fiftieth soccer-ignorant 'soccer journalist' asks him to explain how this could happen.

If it does happen, one of those "journalists" will be Trecker himself. How ironic. :)

I don't think he hates american soccer, far from it. He has his own views and undestands we need to be in line with the rest of the world. Anyone who makes bald predictions and openly shares his views will find plenty of fans to disagree.
I cannot fault a guy for speaking his mind, it does take courage and i rather have him then a phony.

phony = Something not genuine; a fake.
One who is insincere or pretentious.
    An impostor; a hypocrite.
Giving a false impression of truth or authenticity; specious.

one has to look back to 1978 for the last time Brazil did not win it's WC group. the tournament was in Argentina, and Brazil faced 3 European opponents in the opening round and finished second in the group.

    2002 - Group C
    Team Rank P W D L GF GA Pts
    Brazil 1 3 3 0 0 11 3 9
    Turkey 2 3 1 1 1 5 3 4
    Costa Rica 3 3 1 1 1 5 6 4
    China PR 4 3 0 0 3 0 9 0

    1998 - Group A
    Team Rank P W D L GF GA Pts
    Brazil 1 3 2 0 1 6 3 6
    Norway 2 3 1 2 0 5 4 5
    Morocco 3 3 1 1 1 5 5 4
    Scotland 4 3 0 1 2 2 6 1

    1994 - Group B
    Team Rank P W D L GF GA Pts
    Brazil 1 3 2 1 0 6 1 7
    Sweden 2 3 1 2 0 6 4 5
    Russia 3 3 1 0 2 7 6 3
    Cameroon 4 3 0 1 2 3 11 1

    1990 - Group C
    Team Rank P W D L GF GA Pts
    Brazil 1 3 3 0 0 4 1 9
    Costa Rica 2 3 2 0 1 3 2 6
    Scotland 3 3 1 0 2 2 3 3
    Sweden 4 3 0 0 3 3 6 0

    1986 - Group D
    Team Rank P W D L GF GA Pts
    Brazil 1 3 3 0 0 5 0 9
    Spain 2 3 2 0 1 5 2 6
    Northern Ireland 3 3 0 1 2 2 6 1
    Algeria 4 3 0 1 2 1 5 1

    1982 - Group 6
    Team Rank P W D L GF GA Pts
    Brazil 1 3 3 0 0 10 2 9
    Soviet Union 2 3 1 1 1 6 4 4
    Scotland 3 3 1 1 1 8 8 4
    New Zealand 4 3 0 0 3 2 12 0

    1978 - Group 3
    Team Rank P W D L GF GA Pts
    Austria 1 3 2 0 1 3 2 6
    Brazil 2 3 1 2 0 2 1 5
    Spain 3 3 1 1 1 2 2 4
    Sweden 4 3 0 1 2 1 3 1

i realize this doesn't mean that Brazil are certain to come out winners of group F in 2006, but they do have a history of doing well enough to win their opening round group at the WC.

it would be great if the US advanced to the 2nd round and it would be nice if they avoided Brazil. my guess is that any team in group E that can get to 7 points, will be rewarded with not facing Brazil in the round of 16.

Dude, the world cup hasn't started yet and I can tell you right now that Brazil will win its group. When they are sitting on 6 points after the first two matches I feel rather confident that the Czechs and Italians will feel the same way.

Mrs Trecker, I don't think it's disagreement. They would have to be valid points to disagree with them. His "predictions" are just stupid, or a poor attempt at humor. Either way, I'm sorry I read his piece (of ***).

Reading them is one thing. Why people continue to post them on this site is, for lack of a better term, disappointing.

I give his predictions about as much weight as the Mexican astrologist (The Grand Warlock) who predicted that Germany will win the WC because Ronaldinho won't play in the final.
