I'd probably stick with the current 4-2-3-1.

    My call-ups:
Goalkeepers: Quim, Ricardo, Baia (keep the gloryhunters all happy)
Defenders: Ferreira, Nelson (or Miguel if Nelson goes with Cape Verde), Carvalho, Andrade, Caneira, Meira, Ze Castro, Ribeiro
Midfielders: Maniche, Petit, Figo, Ronaldo, Quaresma, Deco, Tiago, Boa Morte, Simao
    Forwards: Pauleta, Almeida, Gomes

    My Lineup:

    --------------Quim-------------
    Ferreira-Carvalho-Andrade-Ribeiro
    ---------Tiago-Maniche---------
    Ronaldo---Deco-Boa Morte**
    -------------Pauleta------------

**-Figo will be in for the more physical games (Iran/Mexico)
*-Almeida would play against weaker defenses

i have a feeling figo will come out to play....

he just seems he has alot to prove and what a way to go out with a bang.

ze castro is to young ot make the team but like i said again scolari stated whoever thinks there job is safe with the team there kidding....

so i guess hes got alot of regulars pissed cause i know alot of players that would want to play for the nt plus the bonus money they get.

i still think players that deserve to be there need to be there....

    players like duda,sergei concecai,boa morte,nelson,nelson ferreira,jose goncalves,

goalkeeping i would pick paulo santos, rui nereu,

Ze Castro is too young but Rui Nereu is good enough?

    Please.

I'm not saying Figo shouldn't play, but I think Boa Morte complements our midfield with a better edge and pace, Figo's style is more based on technicality which would make him a good option against a team like Mexico.

rui nereu as a backup goalkeeper but he is good keeper....

as far as ze castro in the defense position scolari has other choices.

I'd would stick with with the same formation that Scolari is using now as well

    My call-ups:

    Goalkeepers: Quim, Ricardo, Baia
Defenders: Ferreira, Nelson,Carvalho, Andrade, Caneira, Meira,Miguel,
Midfielders: Costinha, Fernandes, Figo, Ronaldo, Quaresma, Deco, Maniche, Boa Morte, Simao
    Forwards: Pauleta, Gomes, Almeida,

    The Lineup:

    --------------Quim-------------
    Nelson-Carvalho-Andrade-Miguel
    -----Fernandes--Maniche-------
    Ronaldo------Deco----------Figo
    -------------Pauleta------------

    Defense Analysis:
Nelson I am pretty sure wants to play for Portugal. I have also read that hes been living in Portugal since the age of 5, so he proboly feels as Portuguese as the next guy.

So I was thinking if he keep playing at the same form as he is right now why not play him on the right side, and play Miguel on the left! The opposing teams would have a hell of a time keeping up. Andrade and Carvalho would stabilize and anchor the defence...

P.S: Could Miguel really work on the left is the question?

    Central Defensive Midfield Analysis:
I put Fernandes in because I think hes just as stable in the back as Maniche/Costinha, but provides alot more offensive power. He always dangerous from distance and some more dribbling ability.

    Attacking Midfield Analysis:
Ronaldo Deco and Figo would all do thier thing. If Figo looks in effective, then it would be wise to sub him out faily realy, maybe around the 55th minute. Depending the on the team we could send in Boa Morte or Quaresma or Simao...or maybe even save Quaresma to replace Ronaldo once he becomes in effective.

    Striker Analysis:

I am starting to get confidence in Pauleta again, but I still prefer Nuno Gomes starting over him.....

    Thats it for me

Nobody even bothers mentioning Petit, but he's probably our best DM at the moment. He can also strike the ball with good accuracy and force.

petit will be consideration i like his grit and he has a good shot.

i think scolari wont tamper with his lineup cause team chemistry is there....

with the world cup qualifiers they had success with that formation.

we all know hugo almeida will be the third string forward....

we all know nelson will be there cause he will replace miguel....

people forget to mention nuno valente with him not being considered for the team.

to me goalkeeping is simple 2 vets and a young keeper:ricardo, quim, nereu since moreira is injured.

I dont like Petit game, thats why I didnt include him in my squad. I still think Miguel is going to make the final roster, just cause he screwed Benfica over doesnt mean anything towards the NT. He needs more playing time though...

    ...i'm experimenting big-time:

    Ricardo
    ferreira/miguel - andrade, carvalho - caneira
    costinha, maniche/tiago
    Deco
    Ronaldo Figo
    Pauleta

    - MFernandes has done little to deserve a spot on the NT, let alone start
    - Figo will start all game, be subbed by Quarasma (with Nani getting spot on the sub-21, this opens a sport for Quarasma)

GK - Paulo Santos, Ricardo, Quim
D - Miguel, Ferriera, Andrade, Carvalho, Caneria, Riberio, Meira
M - Figo, Ronaldo, Deco, Maniche, Tiago, Fernandes, Quaresma, Petit, Simao, Boa Morte
    F - Pauleta, Almeida, Gomes

    Paulo Santos
    Caneria Andrade Carvalho Ferriera
    Tiago Maniche
    Figo Deco Ronaldo
    Pauleta

    GK
Santos has proven himself this year in the superliga with braga, and he is very dependable

    D
Caneria is very versatile and can play left back because riberio has failed to impress me thus far
andrade and carvalho r lock ins, in case of injury Meria will b there
Ferriera over miguel because i think he is better defensivly

    M

Tiago is awesome with Lyon and should take the spot of Costinha who is old and not as good as he was at euro (if u even think he was good...)
Maniche even though he struggled in Russia he is class and it will show thru
Figo can b replaced by either quaresma, simao etc around 60-65 min
    Ronaldo and Deco are locks

    S
Pauleta because of his goalscoring capabilities but if he fails and we needa goal expect Almeida to be brought in, Gomes only if we are leading cuz he plays well with the mids

    -----------------Quim----------------
    --Miguel--Carvalho--Andrade--Ribeiro--
    -----------------Petit-----------------
    ----------------Maniche---------------
    -----------------Deco-----------------
    -Ronaldo<----------------------->Figo-
    ----------------Pauleta----------------

GK: Ricardo hasnt been in bad form lately, but he still scares me when he comes out. Quim isn't the greatest at crosses either but he did hold up well against Man Utd. Bring in Vale as the third keep and put Nereu on the U21s.

CDs: Carvalho and Andrade are LOCKS. Ze Castro is likely to move in January and we will see what happens, but Scolari may want to keep the U21 with at least some of their talent. If he doesnt get called up, Caneira and Meira stay I suppose.

RB: Miguel is now a regular on a pretty strong Valencia side, so he must be doing something right. Ferreira is obviously going to be called up, but he always appears shaky on the NT. Nelson gets called in the absence of Valente with Ferreira being played primarily on the left. He may have a shot if he keeps it up and Miguel flounders.

LB: Valente is a no-no, far too slow and out of shape. Jorge Ribeiro was not too bad the last friendly in which he played. Scolari is obviously not going to consider a SuperLiga replacement like Miguelito. Hopefully Ribeiro is involved in the Portuguese exodus out of Dinamo and we can see what he has got wherever he is transferred to. I would prefer a left foot here, but if Ribeiro can't step up, Ferreira takes it I suppose with some good displays for Chelsea at LB last year.

DM: For the more defensive role that Costinha has occupied, I would prefer some fresh blood in here. Petit and Custodio would be options here, Petit over Custodio pending the second half of the season.

CM: The box-to-box Maniche role here largely depends on Maniche's 2nd half of the season. It certainly appears as though he is heading back to Western Europe, so we will see if he can get his game back. If so, he gets the spot, if not, Tiago or MF get the spot.

AM: Deco. Enough said. Need a suitable backup here, maybe Martins if he can somehow learn to overcome his injury problems as Viana will never crack that Valencia lineup to show us what he can do. Moutinho has been very very quiet and barring a very strong second half, can stay on the U21s.

LW/RW: Figo and Ronaldo doing the switches as usual. However, if Quaresma continues his form, he would certainly be my candidate to sub in for Figo around the 60 minute mark. Simao and Boa Morte fight it out for the third spot, we will see how strong they come in 2nd half.

ST: I suppose it has to be Pauleta, he has already separated himself from the rest of Ligue 1 in goals. (Some pretty decent scorers like Fred in Ligue 1 too). Hopefully he gets it workin on the NT. Gomes and Almeida the likely backups, no challengers unless Postiga can learn how to find the back of the net again wherever he goes in the window. Vaz Te is coming on strong with another great performance today creating a goal for Bolton, but Allardyce it seems can't take the hint. If he finally does start playing Vaz Te or Vaz Te goes somewhere on loan in January and lights it up, who knows, but I seriously doubt it happening.

    So as of right now:

    GK: Quim, Ricardo, Vale
    CD: Carvalho, Andrade, Meira, Caneira
    RB: Miguel, Nelson
    LB: Ribeiro, Ferreira
    DM: Petit, Custodio
    CM: Maniche, Tiago
AM: Deco, Martins (IF HES HEALTHY!)
    LW/RW: Figo, Ronaldo, Quaresma, Simao
    ST: Pauleta, Gomes, Almeida

Tiago has been CLASS at Lyon this year! That team has been unstoppable, it has a bigger gap in Ligue 1 than Chelsea has in the EPL and tore up the CL campaign. To be a fixture in that lineup is saying something.

Mourinho even said that he transformed himself into one of the top midfielders in Europe, although take that for what you will since Mourinho always loved the guy.

What has Tiago done? This is coming from somebody who has Fernandes in their team.

What has Fernandes done? Hell of a lot less than Tiago.

    My list:

    Goalkeepers:
    Quim, Ricardo, Bruno Vale

    Defenders:
Nelson, Miguel, Paulo Ferreira, Jorge Andrade, Ricardo Carvalho, Fernando Meira, Marco Caneira, Jorge Ribeiro

    Defensive Midfielders:
    Petit, Tiago, Maniche

    Attacking Midfielders:
    Deco

    Forwards/Wings:
Simao, Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Boa Morte, Ricardo Quaresma

    Strikers:
    Nuno Gomes, Pauleta, Hugo Almeida

I think all the players I listed deserve to be on the National Team at the moment. Portugal is obviously lacking at the "number 10" position, but should Deco not be able to play for whatever reason, I figure one of the forwards/wings can be placed into that position.

Here's my starting line up (more defensive):
    ------------------Quim-------------------
    Miguel-----J.Andrade-R.Carvalho-----Nelson
    -------------Petit-----Maniche-----------
    Figo--------------Deco-----------C.Ronaldo
    ---------------Nuno Gomes---------------

Here's my starting line up (more offensive):
    ------------------Quim-------------------
    Miguel-----J.Andrade-R.Carvalho-----Nelson
    ------------------Petit-------------------
    Figo--------------Deco-----------C.Ronaldo
    ---------Nuno Gomes---------------------
    ---------------------Pauleta--------------

what happens if Quim gets hurt? The lack of natural central midfielders might hurt although most of your subs *can* play those positions reasonabaly well.

Where did I attack your character?

Me attacking your character, would be calling you stupid, ignorant, arrogant, dumb, retarded, insignificant, etc. etc. etc.

That's attacking character. Saying "from somebody who likes Fernandes." All I'm saying is, I find it hard for someone who believes Fernandes should be in the team to be knocking other trincos, when Tiago has done a lot more and a lot better than Fernandes this season.

    My 23 would be:

    1. Moreira
    2. Ricardo
    3. Paulo Santos
    4. Miguel
    5. P. Ferreira
    6. Andrade
    7. Carvalho
    8. Meira
    9. Caneira
    10. Nelson
    11. Petit
    12. Costinha
    13. Maniche
    14. Tiago
    15. M. Fernandes
    16. Figo
    17. Deco
    18. Ronaldo
    19. Boa Morte
    20. Simao
    21. Pauleta
    22. N. Gomes
    23. H. Almeida

    Formation against weaker teams 4-1-3-2:

    ----------------------Ricardo-------------------------
    Miguel--------Carvalho------Andrade--------Nelson----
    ----------------------Petit---------------------------
    Figo------------------Deco--------------Simao---------
    ---------------C. Ronaldo------------------------------
    ---------------------------Pauleta---------------------

    Against stronger teams 4-2-3-1

    ----------------------Ricardo-------------------------
    Miguel---------Carvalho-------Andarde-------Nelson---
    -----------------Petit------M. Fernandes--------------
    Figo--------------------Deco-----------------C. Ronaldo
    ------------------------Pauleta-----------------------

I like the Petit/Fernandes combo more because they are equally effective defensively as Maniche/Costinha the difference is Petit and Fernades score more goals. (Both good at freekicks too)

Regarding Nelson he should play on the left because he has a better left foot than Miguel, P. Ferreira and Caneira. Nelson is quicker and can keep up with defenders more than Caneira.

I would've picked Quaresma but we already have too many wingers.
