I read that they feel strongly that Lampard will join them, because a) everyone wants to play there (their words), b) his girlfriend is from that area, and c) he's publicly stated that he would like to play there if he were ever to leave Chelsea. Is this a pipe dream by Barca, or is there any truth to any of this? Given his current pay (and form), would they even be able to afford him? It seems to me that Barca are smoking something, but I'd like to hear the experts' opinions.
Where did you read this? I haven't read anything of the sort in any of the spanish dailies including the Barça heavy ones. The only player they've talked about has been Henry.
Well, he does have a fiancée from <st1:city w:st="on">Barcelona</st1:city> and he does go there quite often, and the story goes that he got a flight back to <st1:city w:st="on"><st1 ="">London</st1></st1:city> once with the goofy porn star (ronaldhinio) and they had a chat apparently and Ronnie asked him to join Barca. . .but, Frankie knows that joining an inferior football team would be a step down for him. . .at least for the next few years, after which, he may “do a Beckham’ who knows? Can’t see it on the immediate horizon though <o =""></o>Football is a funny old game though, who’d have thought that that coke snorting scally at no.4 would be so rich? F<o ="">ootball rich list: </o> 1. David Beckham (£75m) 2. Dennis Bergkamp (£37m) 3. Michael Owen (£30m) 4. Robbie Fowler (£28m) 5. Sol Campbell (£26m) 6. Roy Keane (£25m) 7. Alan Shearer (£22m) 8. Rio Ferdinand (£20m) Ryan Giggs (£20m) Ruud van Nistelrooy (£20m) not a single Chelsea player on the list? .
I got it from Yahoo! Sports UK, but I had heard about it somewhere else as well but can't recall the source (old age and alcohol cloud my memory a bit): Barcelona are targeting Chelsea's England midfielder Frank Lampard, according to a member of the Spanish champions' ruling body. Speaking in Peru, Jordi Orriols, of Barca's Social Commission, admitted he would not be surprised to see the Blues' vice-captain at the Nou Camp. Asked who would be Barca's next major signing by Peruvian website El Bocon, he replied: "Frank Lampard. Now all the stars want to come to Barca and we have the luxury of being able to choose. "Lampard is one of the best and it would not be strange to see him at the Camp Nou." Lampard was recently described by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho as the best player in the world and recently finished second to Barca star Ronaldinho in the voting for the European player of the year. The 27-year-old - who has a Catalonian girlfriend - has stated in the past that were he ever to leave Stamford Bridge he would want to play for the Catalan giants. The major stumbling block to a move, though, could be the player's wages, which Barca would struggle to match.
Barca are in debt. Nor do they really need Lampard, since they have Xavi. I suppose he could play instead of Deco, but Deco's pretty good. This makes no sense. Gallas, on the other hand.........
I could be crazy, but didn't Mourinho himself state that Barcelona were the best team in Europe last year? In some interview where he was dismissing Liverpool (again), he said that Barcelona were the class of Europe or something and should have won the CL last year. Anyone else remember him saying something like this?
That's what I thought (see thread title), but I wanted to be sure. I like having Frankie in England - I don't want to see him get worse like Gravesen did.
1) Barcelona don't need Lampard 2) Lampard loves Chelsea as far as I can tell 3) Barcelona cannot afford Lampard 4) Even if Barca did have the money, Chelsea don't need it 5) Lampard is too important to Chelsea 6) This is all media garbage Lampard leaving Chelsea now is as unlikely as Ronaldinho leaving Barca.
If Jose said "best in Europe" he's absolutely right since he's referring to continental Europe. Obviously whoever beats the best in Europe gotta be the bestestest in the whole wide world.
Fowler has a large real estate portfolio AFAIK. Doesn't really look like a business mastermind, does he?
I could probably dig this up somewhere, but can anyone remind us when Supah Frank's current contract runs out?
That list include business ventures. Fowler's money anymore is from out of football...he plays now for the love.
