I think Lampard can very well win this award. Eventhough I'm a Barca fan and I hope Ronaldinho wins it, I can not say that Lampard does not deserve this award just as much as Ronaldinho does. He is a very talented, effective and consistent player and I feel he has more than enough merits to win this award. I guess we'll just have to see who the coaches vote for, but even if Lampard does not win, I don't think anyone can say that he does not deserve it. Oh yeah... I hope to see you guys again in the Champions League very soon!! ;)

    hahaha you guys are funny,

The neg reps wont help the lampard win the World player of the year throphy. And im not saying Lampard isnt a good player, he is a good player. But Good Players dont win this award, Great Players do. Ronaldinho is a GREAT player, Eto'o is a GREAT player, they are good enough to win. Him winning would only cheapen this prestigious award and we cant have that can we?. Lampard has yet to demonstratethe skills necessary to win this award, Players like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Zidane, Figo, Rivaldo, and Weah have. That being said, Id just like to say congrats on the English league title, but you will never know what it feels like to have a World Player of the Year playing for you, well..unless you buy Ronaldinho but I think he would be too expensive for Roman. So have a nice night. Cheers Big Ears :p

No. The porn star is a great player. The porn star is the best player in the world sure. I'd still rather have Lampard.

Eto'o? No. There are at least half a dozen strikers in the world better than him. Eto'o is not always even good. Also, Eto'o barks like a mad dog and is a very pathetic individual (hey I can see why you like him).

I dont know much about Eto'o(')s personallity but I do know he does not like Chelsea so he cant be that bad of a guy now can he?

And his scoring ability cannot be matched by anyone in the game aside from maybe Shevchenko, or Henry but unlike those players, Etoo is still very young and has a bright future ahead of him.

Eto'o is this the same guy who missed a great chance to score against Chelsea last year in the second leg, in which Barcelona and its "great" players got knocked out of Champions League by frankie(who did score in the game) and his boys? Looks like our best player was able to lead his club past yours, sorry. Now that Xavi has gone down you guys would beg us to sell you Lampard, and well even before he went down Ronnie was talking about how Barca should buy him.....he would walk into your squad and make them immediately better, only a fool like yourself could not see that.

Um, tool, I hate to break the news to you but we do know how it feels to have a World Player of the Year playing for us. We saw George Weah and we'll be seeing Frank Lampard.

I think your hard on for Brazilian players has cut the circulation off to your brain via your yellow polka dot bikini that you all like to wear to the beach.

Re: Can Lampard win FIFA player of the year award?

This is threatening to become accepted wisdom on Big
    Soccer, and it's false.

I believe that Teso and SirManchester are partly to blame.
Anytime a Brazilian player is praised, they say something like:

    1. 'Rooney is far more complete--he defends'.

    2. 'The new Denilson . . . '

    3. 'His tricks are flashy, but so-and-so [insert German name]
    is just as effective'.

Fact is, what Ronaldhino does works. It's effective. Defenses
are surprised, wrong-footed, misdirected. Very little of what he
does is pointless--indeed what's amazing is to see how rarely
he squanders a pass or loses the ball given the high number of
    improvisations he attempts each game.

A scheme-breaker, as the Spanish say.

Now if Lampard is better (personally I doubt this) it would be
because he is more effective than Gaucho, not because
Gaucho is merely entertaining yet ineffective.

I mean to say that, if you wish to argue Lampard is a better
player than Ronaldhino (a position I would not take) you can't
use this now-tired line about Gaucho being merely a trickster
or a flashy player with no substance. You must make the case
instead that Lampard is more effective or substantial.

Because Ronaldhino has substance. He is effective. He does
    the business.

I hope that is better English - ?

To more pressing questions...which is the more annoying, overused nickname: TH14, Gaucho or CR7

    R9 is the worst. :D

Gaucho I like, because of that funny line: "I'm ugly, but friendly."
Also because--how many times can I comfortably write out the
name "Ronaldhino." Probably I already have this carpel tunnel
    syndrome . . . .

I just do not get how people can not debate between two players and actually give them both credit.

Ronaldhino is a great player, Lampard is a great player. I would say both are deserving of the award. Seeing Ronnie play us first hand last season, I was impressed. He was playing the best defense in the world, and he was effective. To me what I was most impressed with(even more so than that goal) was when he dribbled by Ferreira at the half line and simply flicked that 30 yard pass onto Eto'o's foot, that was class. And I do not think his "tricks" are mere style, they are for effect, he is no fake Ronaldo in that department.

I could also go on and lament about how great I think Lampard is, and how he consistently leads this team to great performances in all games(big and small) and how that consistency, plus winning the league and playing every game, while also coming up big in the CL(goal against Barca, followed by maybe the best goal I have seen him score, the one against Munich), earns him the right to be World Player of The Year. But we all know how people on this board feel about Super Frankie. Ronaldhino maybe the best player on the planet, but I wouldn't trade FL8( ;) ) for him anyday.
