I've noticed the Italians have a fairly unique uniform for their Serie A referee uniforms. And today I noticed in two different games that they have what appears to be a pumpkin on each arm. What is the significance of the pumpkin (or whatever it is)?
It's a sponsor logo. For some reason the financial company ING has a pumpkin logo on their ad on the ref sleeves.
You sure it's a pumpkin? ING's corporate logo is an orange lion. http://www.ingfunds.com/v2/common/images/logo.gif
It's a pumpkin--a guy at the CO avanced ref training class had the black italian ref jersey on, and I had the same thought--"Why is there a pumpkin there? ING's logo is a Lion."
The stylish Italians making their referees look like human glowsticks? Yeesh. Others are doing it too.

Here's another view of the yellow unis: I can't find a good picture of the blue uni, but here's a thumbnail:
The two yellow uniforms posted here were last year's version. This year's is considerably more form-fitting and out there imo.
^^^ you're correct those are the old referee uniforms. I actually like the yellow and black uniforms, not sure about the blue one though. By the way, does any one know where I can purchase the new yellow one?
This is the official page of the Italian Referee Organization: http://www.aia-figc.it/dettaglio.asp?ID=301 One can also find an ad with the "sponsor ufficiale"-pumpkin on that page.
anyone know if adidas still offers it's basic black referee top anymore? I haven't been able to find it on the adidas website or amazon.com
The regulations in the Italian League for the past couple of seasons is that each team AND the referee must all be wearing different coloured shorts and socks, hence the almost "one colour" referee outfits. As regards the "adidas" black kit question, it is still available, and for those that are not aware, "refereeworld.com" based in Germany is a good website to check out.
thanks, found it Those looked terrible, especially with original uniforms some teams had (think '96 KC Wizards or Revolution).
