    Hi guys,

we're not far from the January 2006 Transfer Window now and so the time has come once again to debate which players would be best suited to our squad.

If you had a choice as manager of Spurs to sign a player and had £7 million available, who would you go for?

I know who I would sign. I have had my eye on Blackburn's Morten Gamst Pedersen for some time now. He is a superb young player, who we had the chance to get, but for some strange reason, chose not to.

Pedersen can play on the left of midfield comfortably, scores and creates goals. Blackburn wouldn't turn down a £7 million offer for him either I don't think.

So guy's, who is your player?

    A big striker.

We should try and sign Lucarelli again.

Failing that I'm still not convinced by Stalteri so would look to bring in Trabelsi but only for £4m.

Not so sure that Blackburn would sell at £7M. He's their star player, still young, and knowing how much they got for Damien Duff, I think they'd be wanting £10M or so. Which I don't think he's worth, eventhough he is a good player. Too bad we didn't sign him for £1M when I wanted us to.

There are exciting times in Norwegian football at the moment, with more talented youth players coming through than ever. Maybe Tottenham should have a look..

Brede Hangeland (24) potentially the next Sami Hyypia - £1M
Kristofer Hæstad (21) potentially the next Gennaro Gattuso - £3M
Per Ciljan Skjelbred (18) potentially the next Pavel Nedved - £5M
    Daniel Braaten (23) - £3.5M

We probably haven't got room for Hæstad, with Tainio and Davids at the club. But I do believe we'd be healthier by trimming the squad with Hangeland replacing Pamarot, Naybet, Davenport and Bunjevcevic. And Skjelbred replacing Davis, Brown and Mendes. Braaten would be a decent replacement if Robbie Keane leaves. Both Braaten and Hamdaoui wouldn't mind being on the bench, behind Mido and Defoe.

No doubt that we need a left winger. I hope there's something in the Arjen Robben link. He'd be worth a club record bid for us, we need a creative force of world class. It's what makes Arsenal (T.Henry) better than us.

I don't think Chelsea would sell Robben if so why? Maybe if has injury problems that will not heal which looks a possibility.

I like Pedersen, he has a eye for goal, can cross and takes a wicked corner.

We are ok for centre backs, maybe need a back up for King and Dawson but that is not a area we need.

We are ok for fullbacks, Lee is a good left back and Stalteri and Kelly are ok for the right back spot.

Centre midfield is also not a area we need to worry about.

We are ok for wingers, Routledge and Lennon is enough.

If anything we need a striker.

I saw a interview with him on a Italian football programme, that guy loves Livorno i can't see him going anywhere. He took a massive paycut to go their and dropped down a division aswell.

....the chairman has also stated that he will never sell him, so there is no point in even trying.

....Blackburn are in serious debt at them moment. They have to get into Europe this season, or we may see them going into administration.

btw, I have been told this by a die-hard Burn fan here in Nicosia. He thinks that a £7 million deal + bonuses would clinch it for us.

Pederson scores a lot of goals, but doesn't really have a lot of pace or flair, he's not a proper winger.

I'm hoping the club gets a proper winger for the left side, someone who can take people on and make things happen.

Well, ideally Joaquin, but he wont come. Thomas Rocisky would be good to have, but that's jsut another center midfielder.

Would like to give Doula(sp?) a shot as his pace is unreal and with Lennon/Routledge on the other wing we have pace to go along with the teeth of Davids/Tanio and the creative talents of Carrick/Jenas in the middle of the pitch.

Wouldn't mind trying for an unknown player with pace that will attack defenses and give Lee even more room to overlap on the left.

Robben is pure quality and would be completely shocked if he moved to us hell I would be suprised if he left at all as his wages have to be pretty damn high.

Would also like to have the Keane contract tied up one way or the other as if we can't keep him we need to get as much as possible for him and look for a quality replacement as soon as possible.

Wesley Sneijder from Ajax, good pace, plays on the left and would be perfect for us....I also like what Dean Whitehead is doing for Sunderland, shame the lad is in a shite football team, his goal against the Barcodes was excellent, in fact he played very well, has good feet and pace, and is out on the left I believe.

....we don't need a proper winger on the left as we have Lee who overlaps. And yes, Pedersen does have ******** loads of flair and pace. He scores and creates a lot of goals.

He is used to the Premiership, is probably a Spurs supporter (as most Scandinavian players seem to be) and would fit like Norwegian glove.

.....Westley is a superb player. It's not just me who thinks so either. Martin has also laid down the admiration for him in the past. I personally think that he will be a Spurs player come the end of the season.

Whitehead is also a good little player. I am not too sure what he would be like at a massive (did you hear that Graeme :D ?) club like Tottenham Hotspur though?

Wesley neither plays on the left, nor is he a winger. He is a two footed central midfielder. He is a very good passer and has a wonderful long range shot.

...maybe they don't show much Dutch football out there in the Everglades my friend, but I can assure you that Westley was a winger in his earlier days and can easily fit in on the left once more. I am not saying that he should play as a winger though as we have Lee to overlap. He should play left-centre.

You are right though, Westley is now an attacking two-footed central midfielder.

If you guys are going to end up selling Robbie Keane, then you might want to consider buying a centreforward to complement Defoe and Mido.
For 7m I'm sure Jol could try and snap up some young Dutch youngster like Romeo Castelen. Or he could try and bring in an English youngster like Dean Ashton or Carlton Cole (if Chelsea are willing to sell). What happened to your interest in Mounir El Hamadoui?
But if you're not plannign on selling anyone, I reckon your weakest position is the rightback one. Pascal Chimbonda has looked pretty impressive for Wigan so far this season, and you guys could nab him if the price is right. On the other hand, I'm sure United would have their hand forced if you offered 7m for John O'Shea :D

    Interest?
He's been a Tottenham player for almost a year now.

We loaned Hamdaoui out to Derby at the start of this season, but he was recalled when he picked up an injury.

I'm not too keen on some of the players named.

Those Norwegian potentials... hmm. Potential is all well and good, but worthless unless they settle and play well. If they don't then there's no point buying those players. Also, a massive step up from the Norwegian league - regardless of champs lge experience in losing games - to the Premierleague.

Lucarelli? Hm, not sure. I'd want us to aim higher.

7m is a lot for Castelan, Ashton and Carlton Cole? pff.. don't think so. Aim higher again, we're not Villa or Charlton.

Chimbonda? errrr... no. Right back we're fine. Kelly is better than Stalteri but younger.

Sneijder good but unnecessary at the moment.

I'd go for a forward, and tieing up the Mido deal. Striker such as... Eidur Gudjohnson. But that's quite unlikely..

Left wing is the only place that really needs strengthening IMO. There are rumours that Jol isn't too happy with Andy Reid (cos he's fat?). If Reid leaves then the only true left winger we'll have is Reto who's not having the best of times at Hamburg. Morten Gamst Pedersen would have been a good buy 2 years ago but too pricey now. There really isn't anyone in england that stands out other than Downing who's been injured all season.

Personally i reckon we need to sell all the surplus midfielders and let Huddlestone have a chance

Did you watch the clip of that Braaten kid? Amazing. Plays like Wayne Rooney, but wide. I especially liked the way he beat Roberto Carlos and the rest of the (admittedly shyte) Real Madrid defence. Thanks for the link, Rabbi Keane. And if it's true that we could get him for 3.5 mil, I don't think it's even a question - he blows Pedersen away.

In terms of who I'd like to see this January, Kuyt still has to be top of my list. Mido is good, but not good enough to beat the best defenders in Europe (assuming we make the competition...). And since Jol is clearly only going to play Defoe with a bigger striker, then that's what we need to be looking for. I agree with the other poster who said that Keane will probably be on his way soon enough :(

Not really... Stalteri has been at fault in about 50% of the goals we've conceded this season. Ok, maybe I'm exagerating a bit, but you don't see Lee making the mistakes Stalteri does. Kelly is a fine young prospect, but if we're supposed to be building a team for European football, we need someone playing on the right who is of that calibre. If Kelly was as good as Lennon, King or Dawson (in their respective positions), I don't think the likes of Stalteri could have kept him out of the side. Same goes for Ifil. Paramot's a good backup - slightly better than Stalteri, but still not good enough in my opinion. I don't really have a recommendation for who we could get a right back. Maybe Comolli can unearth some unknown French talent?

.....point 1. I've seen him play twice now and he is a gem. If we can sign him for £3 million, then that would be a steal.

.....point 2. Expect Mr. Comolli to sign a few players from the Ivory Coast. He has a massive network out there. Remember, it was Comolli that signed all the Arsenal youngsters. The likes of Eboue and the rest are part of the Comolli regime.
