That's some nice information and all but you didn't actually answer or make any explanation as to why the fact that one of these two players played for our national youth teams should make a difference over 10 years later...

    Nice information and stuff though...

No, you actually answered 0% of the question.

The question is WHY should the fact that they played in the youth team be a factor in their selection. Not just why but HOW. Since you believe that it was a factor in Nuno Santos' selection for the team and Nunes' non-selection. So answer my question don't just reply saying what you've already said 5 times in the same exact phrasing.

Ok, didn't see this post the first time since you quoted me twice in a row (didn't look at this post).

Regardless, it's a farce of a post, and I think even you know it. Someone's youth career in Portugal does not enable them to be called up for Portugal especially with a TEN YEAR GAP! Makukula had a longer career with the youth teams than Almeida and Almeida will probably get called before him (if he ever gets called up/or is not injured long enough for him to play for Congo).

So you're not saying it's the right philosphy but that's how it works? What? No, it isn't. It helps to play for the youth teams but those credentials last until you're 24 at most. When you're in your 30s it doesn't matter what you did 10 years ago.

Nuno Santos was not called up on youth-team credentials and I HOPE it doesn't take a rocket-scientist to see that. And you answered why Nunes wasn't called, and why he won't be for a while unless we have a lot of injuries. He's not even good enough for our bench unfortunately. He does have talent but it's that we have enough top-quality defenders and even then it's wrong to mess with a defensive duo that has been working together for soon to be 3 years.

Can we at least agree on this much? Nuno Santos was not called up based on his youth credentials and vice-versa for Nunes.

Like you said...I already answered your question...I xcant tell you How ,cause im not Scolari but i can tell you WHY.....Its a philosphy of the FPF to continue its programs of bringing players thru the ranks of the FPF from the youth teams all the way to the A team...There are several exceptions:ex-Pauleta and many others.....The only strange thing about this is the long gap from his last appearance with a youth team and now with his 1st Senior call up.....

And the 2nd part of the answer which i may add ,i already answered one is the 2 different positions on the field .One is a defender the othet a gk.....

Dont put me on the Benbch and question me like i was on trial......

Why do u think he called Nuno Santos and not Nunes?

Or do u actually think that Nunes is better than Carvalho and Andrade....

I gave my opinion ,and my apologies if im wrong ,but i think you havent givin your opinion yet.....

Look at howm many caps MAKUKULA has with the youth teams and compare those wuith Hugo Almeida?

Without even checking i can tell you right off the top of my head that Almeida has a lot more....The 1st time that Makukula was called up was for the EURO 2002 in Switzerland (u-21)......Plus Makukula ,even if hes injurie free, has laready screwed himself by accepting to play for Congo...As far as Nunes ,your right we cant mess with a due that has worked well.....But if that duo and another sub gets injured ....Who do u call?Beto :D ....

Im sorry but i think that Nunes is at least worthy of a 4th call......

Zoff was 40 when Italy won the World Cup in 1982, not 36 ;)

Now, let's get back on track, shall we...

Just noticed the thread... Dino Zoff was in goal for Italy up until he was like 40 years old. Wasn't it Portugal that beat Italy prior to the WC?

    No ,it was Vitoria Guimaraes...

Italy had their Estagio in Northern Portugal and played abunch of games vs Portuguese opposition ,including 2nd division teams(Chaves being one of them)They were really dissapointing in most of those games...An the Italian press immediately wrote of their chances of doing anything in the WC...

Once in Italian soil ,Mr.Paulo Rossi took care of business....

We'll be missing some players from our usual starting lineup, too. Tudor and probably Pršo and Srna. I predict it'll end 2-2.

How much will you beat the Croats by? 3-0, 4-0, as in 96, you beat their (2nd team 3-0).

I think that both squads are evenly matched. I don't think Portugal will lose at home, but I can see a tie in this one. Perhaps a 1-1, maybe 2-2, but no loss for either or...
