Good enough, he's sure to a game or 2 off, he'll be drumming up some respect from the stands.

I'm sure most people will have to be reminded why Gomez is suspended when he doesn't start the opener next season.

This is incident is already history. As it should be.

Gomez's apology is the least he could do after a despicable incident. Time to move on.

It is interesting to note that most of those rushing to accept Gomez' apology are DCU partisans.

Spitting at someone is going far beyond the pale. There is no excuse, hence no apology accepted. Run him out of MLS...forever.

My point is, this is not a partisan problem, this is a League problem. Someone on this thread, DCU folks or not, should realize that.
Christian Gomez adds nothing to the American game, but instead should be severely punished, therefore sending a message to every soccer player and fan in the country.

What a load of $hit...Tell you what...Gomez did a spray...I would have been more impressed if he reached down deep inside his lungs and hocked up a nice green sticky on C.J.!

Now that would send "a message to every soccer player and fan in the country!"

    ;)

Adds nothing to the American game?

He played a beautiful game against Catolica in Chile, scoring two goals and proving that American soccer can hang. He was our team MVP and he is a generally nice person in real life.

    You are an idiot.

    Wow.

    Well then.

    Hanging?
    Firing squad at dawn?
    Draw and quarter him?

And should this be part of the MLS Cup halftime show? Or should we wait until the SuperDraft?

I'm ok with this apology. He's been a classy player since he's been here but I think the league isn't done with him.

And maybe he's merely doing it for himself. He felt bad about it and wanted to say so.
Fortunately for you, you won't have to experience this 'League problem' in Portland any time soon.

hmmmm.....apologizing to the team for acting in a manner detrimental to the team, what a novel idea.

paging Mr. Adu, white courtesy phone please

maybe this apology was about more than just Gomez being sorry for being a dumbass, maybe it was setting an example for stubborn 16 yr olds as well

then again, maybe it was just an apology that SHOULD set an example for stubborn 16 yr olds

I was pretty pissed at Christian and I still am. But a public apology is definitely a good first step toward redemption.

I think everything could turn out OK in the long run if some of the league's marketing geniuses can figure out how to use the footage from the incident for a Sierra Mist commercial.

    Re: Gomez issues apology

Not to condone his action, but it must of been extremely frustrating for Gomez to see the season go down in flames. He lost his head for a second. Not good, but not a capital offense to me particularly when he's known for being a good guy normally. If a guy who is always a punk pulled this it would be different. Probablly warrants some kind of suspension to start the season then move on. For a guy that is normally level headed to do this really showed how emotionally he was into it. I wish he could of channeled that emotion better, but I respect it.

Again, it's the DC UNITED board what do you expect?

You come here to say that? Are you Mr. Perfect-if you did something wrong should we run you out?

    Wow.......

I guess THAT's really trolling for ya.

As much as I am a DC lover and Chicago hater CJ Brown is a class act. Earlier in the year (or last year) Chicago was playing DC in DC, one of our players went down with an injury and CJ Brown was the first man over to see if he was ok. And, Brown was not even involved in the play.

Gomez's apology doesn't really help us now, does it?

  21. Stupid move and he deserved a red card - it is in the rule book - automatic red card.

I accept his appology. He is a great player and cares for the game as shown by his actions in the swamp where he joined the supporters groups banging a drum.

(Hey Freddy - that is how you appoligize and be a man and own up to your actions)

It does in the fact that he's got the apology out there so we can all accept it, including the league and team, and not have any further consequences (other than the usual for a red card). As far as I'm concerned, incident over.

kudos to Gomez for an apology ... yep that is how a man deals with his mistakes - first step acknowledge the problem and apologize ... second step take the punishment (first games next season) .... third step - drive on with being a professional and learn from it. I hope Nowak and Adu can learn from Christian's public acknowledgement. It is a sign of strength - not weakness.

I think it was #2. It looked like CJ Brown yelled at him for diving, and maybe CJ said something to put Gomez over the top, but I think that being in the position that DC was in is what led to Gomez's reaction.
