Hello all, I was looking to get some logistical information on what I and my buddy will need to do when we come into town for the Cup. Mainly, our biggest question is will a car be needed to be rented, or is there efficient mass transit to/from the new stadium? Second, we're coming in on Friday night, so any suggestions of entertainment options will be appreciated as well. Good luck in your second game. Lord knows my team's needing it right now. If we flame out, I'm pulling for you guys. Unrelated, but what's the word on Richard's recovery? He and ROB are my two favorite non-quakes players in the league. It was brutal watching his (RM's) season end right in front of us on that ugly, ugly night... Cheers, Battch
You will definately need a car as Frisco is outside any mass transit. For entertainment options you might give a hint as to what you are looking for so as to narrow down ideas.
Agreed on that description. Latest word on Richard Mulrooney (and Buzz will know better than anyone) is that he's moving fairly well, and the rehab seems to be (almost?) complete, but he's certainly not match fit yet. I personally don't expect to see him again this year, though. On the bright side, he won the team's Humanitarian of the Year award.
Rent a car, not even an option, its a must. Not only is transportation to the stadium non-existent, you'll have a hard time leaving the airport without a car of your own. As far as your entertainment options go, a lot of this will depend upon where you want to stay. From what I've heard, Frisco hotels (all three of them) are booked for the weekend. So that means you can start looking at Plano, or you can go closer to Dallas which will give you plenty of night life options but will leave you with a bit of a drive (approx. 30 minutes) on gameday. Once you nail that down, we'll give you some recommendations on what to do with your free time. Don't forget that The Inferno will be hosting some MLS Cup weekend activities like the Supporter's Summit and Silent Auction.
Is there a scheduel set for activities on MLS Cup weekend? I know there are some things planned, but have times been set up?
If he makes it back it will only be for MLS Cup and then only as a sub I imagine. But given what I see, and I am not a doctor, I am not holding my breath. It would be more for team moral than anything.
If and obviously this is way down the line, but if it somehow goes to penalties at mlscup then I can't think of many other people I'd rather have taking one than him. How storybook ending would that be for RM to hit the winning PK at mlscup.
Battchy- Definitely will need a car. I would suggest staying in Addison, it's ~midway between the airport and PHP. Check out: www.addisontexas.net. I live in Addison and am a season ticket holder... the drive up to Frisco is short. Addison has plenty of hotels (many different price ranges), MANY good restaurants (all types of food) and decent nightlife (bar scene, live music, comedy, etc.). Also, if you stay in roughly the area around the Dallas North Tollway and Beltine Road/Quorum Road you can actually walk (yes, this is possible in some areas of Dallas) to many of the aforementioned. With that said, Addison is a relatively small area, so you can get anywhere in Addison within 5-10 minutes drive anyway. If you go the Addison route let me know and I can give you more specifics. RM
Thanks all. We are staying at the Embassy Suites in Frisco. Anyone familiar with it? How far out of DFW is it, 30mins? As for entertainment, we will be doing, I'm sure, all of the league stuff (supporters summit, etc.) which I assume is in/around our location due to it being the 'official' hotel of the league for the weekend, but is there any "must see or do" activities that most people would recommend for Saturday day or night? Don't put yourselves out too much working on this, if we end up bellied-up at a good bar somewhere, I'm sure we'll be just fine. Keep your eyes open for Texgator, Texas Arsenal, and or Mrs. Texas Arsenal.. They are the INFERNO resident for all matters Frisco as a matter of fact I do believe The Embassy Suites Frisco houses the Arsenal's personal watering hole...
The Hampton Inn is .2 of a mile from the Embassy Suites and $55 less per night. Unless of course you have the MLS code for the discount.
Ahh .. yes... The Cypress Lounge. Bartender on the weekend is Shake. We havent been the last couple Fridays though. Nice bar .. not crowded .. cool TVs. The ES is a brand new hotel and very nice. The Irish Rover is just down the street from there. That is a popular hangout for the Inferno. Restaurant/bar type place. Frisco has a nice big mall just across from the ES and a new IKEA around the corner too. Not a whole lot of nightlife. Frisco is pretty family oriented. Closest place for nightlife is Addison as RM said. Just down the Tollway.
As long as us Boston folk can get some white wine and sushi. None of that fru fru, ribs and texmex stuff.
More details to follow, but generally: Friday night drink-a-thon/social get together Saturday morning - Supporters Cup/kickaround tournament among the various supporters groups (bring your boots!) Saturday afternoon - Supporters Summit Saturday night - another party/silent auction, etc. Sunday - tailgate and game
Frisco Sushi: 9 Fish or Jinbeh Frisco Bars: Don't fight it, The Irish Rover reigns supreme over all others! There is the previously mentioned hotel bar and The Down Under Pub. Also, there is some quality entertainment at Legacy Square which is very close the the ES. Enjoy Frisco and spend plenty ... we appreciate it!
FYI - I just booked a room at the Embassy Suites - there is still some availability. All players/teams will stay there, in case any of you are looking for autographs.
