There are both sides to it. And I agree with you but for me a win is a win. And Wenger should condemn them for the act but not shake up the team. It seems finally with Titi back we might be getting our stride back. Oh and to me a win is a win no matter how you achieve it. I bet you any winning team has had their share of luck or cheating as some people put it. I don't care, that's just my opinion of it. I'm willing to do anything it takes to win because at that level that is all that matters not if somebody is playing fair. Will you disagree with me on that point as well?

What a crock of shít. Especially when the player you are getting so manic about was at the centre of yesterday's fvck-up.

Henry is world-class player, no doubt but he is NOT bigger or more important than Arsenal Football Club. The day my club embarrasses itself in the way you just described is the day i lose all interest in football.

    Exactly!

I'm sick of players that think they are bigger than the club. They need to realise that there were many great players before them and there will be after them.

When i watch Arsenal, I don't support the players on the pitch, i'm supporting the club, and the players happen to be a part of it.

I agree that it was stupid given the state of the game, but part of the reason we love Henry so much is that he tries outrageous things like that. If it had worked we would have laughed ourselves silly.

I think Henry would have been thinking "If the great Johann Cruyff can do it then so can I!"

We were lucky to get away with it but now we should laugh about it and move on. Oh, and make sure the twats don't try that one again.

BTW - the blame lies squarely with Henry on this one.

One other thing - why did Riley give a free kick? His explaination was that he thought Pires touched the ball twice - my explaination is that, like most of the people who saw it, he didn't know the rules!

I agree - Henry deliberately tried to deceive Danny Mills yesterday, he "pretended" to kick the ball but then let it run through to Fabregas. Blatant deception on Henry's part!

How the fcuk did they have the game under control, a minute after the farce city had a perfectly good goal disalowed for offside.

These tricks are fine when you're 5-0 up but not in a finely balanced game like this one!!

Bizarre. Where is the free flowing attacking Arsenal we all love? This match had no rhythm at all and I agree with Cannon's assessment that no one really played well. As much as it pains me to say it....I also agree with Cannon that Pires needs to be a sub at this point. He just looks like the game is too fast for him now.

The ridiculous PK....I won't add any more to what's already been said. Henry should just take all the PK's with no mucking around.

I disagree (with a caveat) that Vassell's goal was legit. From replays he was definitely offside by a couple of feet. Now, IF and that's a big IF.....if the refs were properly playing the "clear daylight" rule that was supposedly issued as a directive to help refs make offside calls...but which as been blatantly ignored time and time again....then it would've been a legit goal. But since refs don't seem to be following that directive.....Arsenal would've been hard done by if all of the sudden Riley did yesterday.

Oh well....three points. I'll take it.

I think the reality is, that at this point Aresnal don't have as much ability to dictate the flow of the game against a quality team. Citeh were successful at breaking up the flow of the match, and it definitely took the Gunners out of their comfort zone. The good news to me is that they were able to win even without playing their preferred style. That's something we need to see.

I do think the defense played pretty well. Even Cygan!

Hate to say it, but I agree with you on Pires. Though I think it's more of a mental problem than a physical problem. It just looks like his head is not in the game at the moment.

Yeah, I posted that after I got home and was far from being calm.....!!

I saw after that Henry took full responsibility for it. Well we both know that Riley was dreadful yesterday, the mount of freekicks and yellows he gave was needless. He lost controll at one point.

It's also worth noting that we're the only team that was involved in a midweek CL game that won this weekend. It's not easy playing away in Europe then winning in style on the weekend, even if we have done it before.

good to get a win. I heard the score on Sirius' coverage of the Prem when I was helping my friend move. Didn't know about the strange penalty. I wish he would've just buried it and gotten me more points in my Globe Fantasy league. since it didn't go in and counts as a miss, i think, i'll lose points. baa!

for me to answer this question here would rightly be considered trolling.

well, given the fact that the penalty was missed, that's an undeniably fair statement.

my only point was that we don't really know what was in henry's mind. if he was putting looking slick ahead of the interests of the team - then let him have it. he deserves all the criticism he can get. however, if he actually was thinking that this might be a surer way to score (with looking cool simply a by-product), then the only criticism he really deserves is for being too clever by half, and for a missed penalty. this in no way disputes your point quoted above. but it could spare him some unwarrented venom - IF, of course, we actually knew his motivation for the penalty scheme.

my 2 cents fwiw...very simple, the french duo screwed up...you get a high percentage score opportunity you take it the easiest way possible. dont need any fancy stuff when a score is practically handed to you.

At least you have the sense to look down. I know I do. And really I don't care how we play as long as we win to tell you the truth and while people may disagree with that at that level all that matters is winning. I don't care what style it's done in, just look at Chelsea, Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus. They get the job done. And if you guys are complaining about how we won then it's a hypocritical statement due to the fact that we were discussing how style did matter before the season actually started.

As for my post, yes it was a stupid one and I apologize for that.

Well my take on it is different. Yes, I do want to win however possible, beating Man U in the Cup final in the way we did was great. But that is completly different to Yesterday. When you are 1-0 up you do not muck around. Simple. My take is that if you are 5-0 up, fine. But if Vassell's goal had stood and we had dropped 2 points then Henry would of had a hell of a lot more apologising to do. For them it's just a game, like Henry said it's "entertainment". To so many more of us who go/watch/listen/cheer week in week out, it's more important than that, way more important than that.

the only one who looks remotely interested, is Cesc and Henry..
wtf happened to Gilberto?? what a non-factor lately..
pires  it's a joke that he starts on the left ahead of Van Persie...
there seems to be very little chemistry, from my point of view.
still very early, and for those that say "undefeated in CL", we have barely managed to scrape by with a couple wins versus rubbish teams (sorry ajax).
sunderland will be scrappy in teh carling cup, should be interesting to see the team selection with the derby coming up....

    Didn't see this before.

Wenger got up and looked like he was standing there in disbelief. He raised his arms towards Henry as if to say "What happened?" and Henry shrugged. The rest of the bench just sat with heads in hands. After the game Wenger said that Pires had apologised and that they were just lucky it didn't cost them. Wenger couldn't really yell at anyone as he didn't know what had happened, the rest of the stadium was just stunned.
