People rarely put him in list of top 10 players of all-time...Or even top 10 scorers/forwards of all time...What does the man have to do?
You have to take most top ten lists with a pinch of salt. Generally you will have the gemeric 5 of Pele, Maradona, Di Stefano, Cruyff and Beckenbauer after that most lists are scattered with players who were influential to the posters homeland NT and its greatest success and then you'll get the rest filled with players who the poster grew up with and has a particular fondness for. Most are a list of favourites not best. Whether a poster has seen much of the generic 5 or not they will be placed there as a default. Players who are currently active will get their full due once they hang up their boots and their career can be looked back on as memories. As an experiment, scroll down to a posters location or fav NT and think of great players from there...usually they'll find their way into that posters top 10.
Just a thought, but since his knee injuries, Ronaldo hasn't been the force he was. When he was at Barcelona it seemed he would take on the whole opposition defence by himself, weave his way through them and deposit the ball in the net at will. These days he is more likely to be on the end of things instead of more involved in the general play and not making those spectacular runs any more. Not entirely his fault, but I think he may be suffering from people thinking he's not as good as he could have been.
i think people are down a bit on ronaldo because hes lazy and seems uninspired alot. if he had continued like he did early on, things would probably be a bit different. plus he is still active and has many years left in his career. people usually put retired players on those kind of lists.
I agree, Ronaldo is clearly among the best 10 players ever, if not the 5 best. His problem is that it doesn't bother him much if he misses a good chance... but because of that he makes very cool goals...
Ronaldo will be recognised as an all time great, wait til he retires. He was the best scorer at the 2002 World Cup, and his goal scoring exploits in his youth should at least put him as a GREAT, right now he is Real Madrid.
