Entering those numbers restarted a clock that was counting down. I was recording the episode and was able to spot the brand on the shark. The word on the logo appeared to be: Dharma But I'm not positive of that.
The hatch showed two more things, that lead me to believe he thinks a nuclear holocaust happened. At one point, when talking with Locke, he says "there's still a world out there?" in response to Locke saying they were flying from Australia to LA. He then asks "how many got sick" and is shocked that zero is the answer. also the room Kate was in looked like a food supply for the shelter. I think Jack is "him". When he asked Locke "are you him?" then asked for some sort of pass code. throwing in the extra survivor next week will be interesting, she might have more insight into things.
was it me or was the show last night mostly flashbacks? I don;t mind getting insight on the past but it was way to much last night, that thing with the kid could have been taken care of in one shot. maybe its just the anticipation that is getting to me but last night was just too much of the past and not enough of the present
I just thought he was hoping Locke was his official relief. Jack doesn't fit that, although the connection between the two is interesting.
I wouldn't say nuclear holocaust. It sounds like a biological wipe out. I think that's why he's wondering how many are sick.
It really was a lot of flashback. I was sort of pissed at the end. I don't want to wait another week to find out about Desmond. I guess that's how they suck us in. They really didn't reveal too much this time. The whole thing about Desmond wondering how many survived. Possibly the Polar Bear he gave to Walt. I don't really think I missed anything. Did the logo on Desmonds shirt and all the food say anything?
Lost is descending into blatant manipulation territory. The Desmond thread was a complete, utter joke - just keep dangling a carrot without moving the story forward, with recap from a different perspective, to keep people tuning in next week. At least we got to see what happened to the raft gang. We'll probably get recap of what happened to Jin, with more teasers about Desmond, and very little revealed. I hope they don't just milk the series with carrot dangling and little progress. At least with last season, even though the story moved very slowly and there was a lot of carrot dangling, we were given a lot of important, interesting exposition about the characters and how they got on the plane. Now that all of that is established, all the carrot dangling will get real old, real fast, unless they can add some extra dimension to provide viewer satisfaction. If the show dips into blatant teasing only, I'll probably give up on it, because it is very easy to read message boards to find out what happens. Being teased is not entertaining, so there would be no point in watching the show. Let's all hope the writers apsire to a higher standard.
I am surprised that the pace of the show is bothering so many people, when to me it seems the perfect way to continue the show. Oh well.
If the pace stays this way, they are going to have to come up with an explanation for why both Walt and the baby are growing so fast. gonna be tough to show a summary of Jin, he doesn't speak english, but I wonder how he ended up on the island while Mike and Sawyer ended up together, last seen Jin jumped in after Sawyer.
I think the pirates were part of "the others" since they were the only boat around at the time when jin jumped in after sawyer.... i cannot explain exactly how they kidnapped him too, but that seems the only possible explanation.... unless of course next week's episode is from the point of view of the pirates for one full hour and show that whole "just give us the boy" scene for the million time
Did anyone notice the world trade center out the window in the lawyers office? Its odd that they would have added that in because there's no way they were filming that scene pre 9/11.
It would be difficult to not notice the WTC towers in the window. It was a "subtle" way of letting the viewing audience know that the flashback was set pre-2001.
What I think is going on.... 1. With the codes being entered into the computer? They are reaffirming that he is there and that he is taking the medicine (shots in the arm) and thus he himself has not been infected with the sickness that people get on the island. The clock was a counter counting down every 180 days I thought. Which might be how long the disease takes before you die, if you don't get your shot. 2. I think there is going to be some bioweapon angle and that Desmond was locked away due to the illness. It killed all of the french womens friends. 3. I think that the others come for the young ones because they are somehow needed to test a cure for the bioweapon thing. 4. My guess is that the others are infected and the dark side of the island is the infected side. 5. I still have no idea about the polar bear, the dark thing that pulled Locke down the hole or anything else of note. 6. I think Kate might have been shot when Desmond put a bullet in the vent and that is why they did the whole view from Kate thing. 7. The food seemed to be all old. Apollo 16 candy bars? 8. I agree with what was mentioned above re: "him" being the good doctor. 9. I love the blond girl who had the baby....yowzer. 10. I like the fact that the boaters ended up on the other side of the island. When I didn't see Jin I guessed that he jumped in the water and then grabbed the boat that was shooting at them. Regardless, i liked the pace. It should be fun from this point forward.
Remember in the season premier that Desmond had woken up and went directly to the computer and entered the numbers. He then got ready and was drinking that concoction when the explosion rocked his little sanctuary. I think it might be the number of minutes... 180 minutes = 3 hours.
That's the first thing I thought about Jin as well when Sawyer and Mike were left alone. I like the pacing as well and of course not everything will be answered in these first few episodes of season 2 because there is so much going on.
One question.... The preview after the first episode said the fate of ALL the survivors would be revealed.... Did I miss that part? Or were they talking about that happening throughout the season or some such thing?
They were speaking in regards to the upcoming season, then again they just try to sell each upcoming episode as much as they can.
The guys on the boat are on the bad side of the island with the "others". Walt is there taken by the others. Everyone else is in the cave. Kate, Jack and Locke are in the shelter with hugo outside.
--I think Hurley is "him." I was reading another messageboard and the joke that Desmond told Locke: "What did the snowman say to the other snowman?" is something that Hurley said last season. The answer is "do you smell carrots" by the way. During the previews for the next episode, I thought I saw Hurley in the hatch. That plus his "lucky" numbers being everwhere in the hatch point to Hurley possibly being our mystery man.
Yeah, and the quarantine is keep out whatever the numbers spread, which seems to be the unbridled crypto-Monkey's paw realization of one's inner longings. And the numbers are being broadcast to draw the infection to the island to control it. I went out drinking last night.
Also in the preview for next week we see Desmond running in the forest. And Jack, Locke & co need to type the numbers into the computer before the 108 countdown hits 0. So who else knows the numbers? Yeah, Hurley so he is the one who has to type them in.
