The lads head East to Gouda country where they need all 3pts not only to help them advance, but more importantly their confidence needs a jolt.

I see the Gunners winning 2-1. Sort of a rematch of the Ajax preseason tourny....both clubs play very creative footie and they are both not playing at the top of their game as of late. The reason for 3 goals total is both sides will have some mental lapses on defense.

    Go on Gunners!

Bets are on Bergkamp to be there. He was likely just "rested" against West Ham. This will be a very important and emotional game for him.

I wish Lord Dennis would take a train for this one. I know the Ajax faithful would love to see him.

hmm.. lets see here... why??

he has started one game in his career for the first team, yet Wenger will start him in a champions league match on the road?

a chance i guess is the best way of putting it.
to be fair mate, he was the only one who looked like doing anything against west ham....

This will be a tough match. I'll be satisfied with a draw.

Henry, Bergkamp, and Pires are all out according to the score.

    I'm seeing a 2-1 win.

    starting line up

    --------------Reyes----------------

    ---------------Helb----------------

    Clichy----Gilberto----Cesc----Freddie

    Cole----Campbell----Toure----Lauren

    -------------Lehman----------------

Subs: Almunia, Lupoli, Quincy, Flamini, wow we're all out of 1st teamers...

Reyes with a fantastic run released by Cesc to open scoring.
Ajax equalise 15 minutes before half time
Late sub Quincy to score in the 88 to secure 3 points for the Maroon & Gold.

Considering it's his old club, he's Dutch, and he showed up at PSV last year, I'd say the odds of him missing this game are zero.

Well yeah, but as I read it, Catfish thought Bergkamp might not show up because of his fear of flying, not because of him beung unfit.

There's two kinds of people I hate. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the bloody Dutch.

True, but I'd take those injuries in a second over going into this match without Henry, Gilberto, Jens, RVP, and possibly Bergkamp. Not to mention the fact that we're still getting over the Vieira sale. Hell, we might be forced to give Quincy (really a reserve player who barely scored even at that level) a start up top with a misfiring (really not firing on goal) JAR. We'll almost certainly have to play the increasingly useless Pires plus Mr. Shaky Almunia in net. A draw would be fine with me given the group we'll have on the pitch against your boys.

My "desired" lineup assuming that Gilberto doesn't recover and Wenger doesn't think Bergkamp can start:
    --------JAR------------
    ---------Hleb----------
    Pires-Cesc-Flamini-Ljungberg
    Cole-Sol-Toure-Lauren
    --------Almunia-------
Bench:poom, Senderos, Clichy, Eboue, Song, Quincy, Bergkamp

If Gilberto and Bergkamp both make it, then Gilberto drops Flamini to the bench (bye Song) and Bergkamp replaces Hleb, who then takes Pires spot on the first XI out wide left. Pires then drops to the bench.

I'd like us to take a different approach to this match. Even with Almunia in net, our defense looks much better than our attack for this match. Why not force Ajax to come out and play a bit? Keep the defense deeper than usual and try to counterattack more. Not really a defensive posture just more patient than usual. Cesc and Flamini can work better in a compact midfield with close support from Sol/Toure. Ljungberg can make runs forward to link with JAR with Hleb holding the ball, running at their backline, and making the key passes (with Cesc) to other attackers. Pires would make late runs and can still deliver an ok pass. Hleb, JAR, Cesc, and Freddie can earn freekicks and corners which have been working better for us of late.

I predict a tight low scoring game. I hope for 1-0 to us but won't be surprised at a draw or even a 1-0 loss.

Im sure the duplicity of that statement was not lost on you - but just in case it was - HAR HAR!

Oh and I love the Dutch - which is why I think they win this game. We are rubbish and Ajax sorta rhymes with Chelsea so were toast.

If Gilberto doesn't play, with Bergkamp nicked, with Henry on loan to Nurse Betty, I think Arsenal would be most happy with one point in A-dam. Ajax isn't the great offensive power of yore, but what is most telling is that they have conceded 9 goals in 6 Eredivisie matches, and stand fifth in their league.
