This trade was a bit confusing as it was listed at MLSnet. I believe it goes like this - the Galaxy traded down to #12 with Dallas moving up to #10, then the Galaxy traded the #12 for a first rounder next year, which is listed as "The Galaxy's natural 1st round pick in 2004." IOW they reacquired their #1 pick for next year. I don't recall when we moved a future first rounder to the MetroStars, but I'll bet someone can remind me. I personally don't agree with the wisdom of trading essentially the #10 pick in this year's draft for what is likely to be a late first rounder next year. But I guess maybe Sigi feels that with the #19 & #20 upcoming and Gonzalez and Chacon in the fold, he can afford to look ahead.
From MLSnet: MetroStars obtained the 17th overall pick from Columbus in exchange for PLAYER TBA and the MetroStars’ natural Second-Round pick in 2004.
